Tired of waiting...

I know, I know, better late than never.

But does anyone else think that Pete should just turn over Vol. 4 (temporarily) to someone else at Mirage, kind of like what they've done with the Tales book? I was a BIG fan of Vol. 4. I miss it. I know a lot of people didn't like the writing and some of Jim's art DOES look rushed, but there was something about that book that really struck a chord with me. I e-mailed Dan and he said Pete couldn't say exactly how long it would be before things settled down and he had a chance to work on it again. I hope it isn't going to be cancelled altogether.

We're also still waiting for The Forever War.

i'm fed up of waiting too. I love that series, and was really digging where it was about to start heading, with a couple of new sub-plots being introduced. I really hope Laird doesn't just cancel it when the movie is over. and i wish they would release some tpbs of it! its a really hard book to get into without having all the back-issues...

I think with all the effort going into the movie the comics are being nudged across a little. Given that the public focus will likely be on all things movie related, it's fair enough that Mirage shift their attention there for a while. That said, I think I read somewhere that Pete was considering releasing more of vol.4 but in trade format, instead of the bimonthly read - but you gotta remember he's also compiling an official continuity with the TPB's - retoning them and touching them up and all. To be honest I just want to see vol.4 continue, but without any compromise of the story or book itself, so if that means time's gotta be taken, then so be it. We do have a very excellent book in Tales each month remember... and come March who knows what else?

All I'll say is, is his creation, he can do what he wants with it. I'll support whatever decision he makes, but I hope he stays with the book. He's a good storyteller, and I'm really digging what he's done so far.

I don't like waiting either, but more because I don't like the idea of an unfinished story. I like Volume 4 for the most part and don't want for it to end and never be resolved like Volume 3 was (though I never collected Volume 3).

I really hope that once the movie comes out Laird gets back into writing...issue 29 has to be mostly done, doesn't it? They could at least release that one issue sometime this year.

Ummm.. we're only 21 days into '07. So I rather doubt things are so set-up that the TMNT Comic is already known to not be coming in this year.

I thought I read in a few places that vol. 4 wasn't ever a certainty. With the film coming soon it'd be shaky ground having to work so closely on the film and have vol.4 ready again the following month, especially when there are six comics, video games, the movie itself and countless other bits and pieces to be looked over in March...

I'm gonna be pissed if Vol. 4 is cancelled. I really am.

We're still waiting for the Forever War, which was announced two years ago and still hasn't been finished. I've written some fan-fiction myself based on Vol. 4, and I kind of wish I were taking this opportunity to do more stuff like that because it was fun. I could barely keep up with the actual comic though, even on a once every two months schedule. Anyway, this rebirth of the TMNT that came about several years ago has been, I feel, very successful for the most part and we shouldn't be taking it for granted and shouting "more more more." However, one would think that after a year or so things will start to die down again, sure the movie is going to make a lot of money the first year, but after that things will go back to normal for Mirage and Pete will get bored just sitting around. Having said that, I do think that even a year from now the book will sell better than it had been, if only for the sensational value: the hiatus will allow a lot of people who were behind to catch up, and the movie will attract new fans. I agree with what was said about issue 29-- surely its almost done and someone at Mirage can put the final touches on it. It was supposed to be released around 6 months ago.

I'm going to e-mail Dan with some suggestions for Pete; why not do Vol. 4 like Tales, and get guest artists to do each issue for awhile? I mean, I like Lawson's art and all, but it wouldn't be forever and at least we would have *something.* Besides, I think it would be interesting to see an issue of Vol. 4 done by someone else for a change. Several of the issues of Tales have tied in very nicely and it wasn't weird that they were written or illustrated by other people. I think its unfair to leave all of us hanging just because something better came a long, something he'd rather work on. I mean, I can understand that, but its just not right as far as I'm concerned.

Huh... I really missed a lot. The only comic show around here moved, and I can't really get there as often as I want... I'd like to keep getting them, though. Only good thing with being so behind, now, is that I can get a bunch at once, haha.

Eh, I'm pretty sure Laird said in one of the letters in Vol. 4 that aside from issue 1, the book has never made a profit.

He's basically doing it for fun, since its not really making him any money.

1: Laird hired a new artist (but thanks to unstoppable cronyism, that will never happen).

or

2: Laird stops shrieking "DON'T BUY MY COMIC!!!" in every letters page whenever anbody chimes in with the slightest complaint.


So really, I feel no sympathy for Laird when he plays the "this book is costing ME money and I'm doing it as a gift for the fans!" card. He's basically going out of his way to ensure that the book doesn't make a profit, so it's mostly his fault.

I don't think he's playing any cards here. He's said from Day 1 that it's the story he wants to tell, and he'll tell it the way he wants - that's why you get the "don't like it, don't buy it" deal. It's not a sympathy plea...

It's not a sympathy plea. I'd liken it more to arrogance and stubbornness.

Even if Peter were able to admit to himself that he's not publishing a good book, I doubt he'd change it because that would be admiting to everyone else that he's not publishing a good book. (Feel free to prove me wrong, though.)

Considering that the upcoming movie considers itself a throwback to the original comics, as did the 2K3 series, I really wish there was a regular comic being published that actually reflected the feel of those comics (instead of contridicting that feel). It'd also be nice to be able to recommend the comic (instead of being rather embarassed about it).

Peter can do what he wants, but I can't understand why someone would want to lose money on a book that virtually no one is enjoying.

Plenty are enjoying it, and plenty probably aren't. That's the thing about comics. I hate superman, someone else doesn't. Just because you think it's a bad book, doesn't make it one to everybody. Pete's telling the story he wants to, I'm reading the story I want to and as it keeps being pointed out - we have a monthly book with a variety of stories that do throw back to everything the new show and movie intend to. Why be embarrassed about the book? Why buy something you aren't enjoying?

Something that sticks out like a sore thumb to me is this: everyone keeps saying it's not like the old TMNT books (Vol 4 I'm talking here) - did everyone decide to just skip the whole Utrom-Transmat-Triceraton-Federation story arc that pretty much filled the gap between Stockman's arc and the Return of the Shredder issues? Vol. 4 is exactly like that arc, but better in my mind, as it still combines the elements of the stories both before and after it.

I just want Eastman to come back so he can at least put his vision into Volume 4. I guarantee the series would be so much better if he was involved.
