so after i watched season 4 this week, i got to the "Return of Savanti" part 1 and 2...which follows the episodes(in this order)
-Outbreak: (where don gets scratched)
-The trouble with Augie: (another donnie episode, and april...but don has the patched up leg)
-Insane in the Membrane: don still has bandaged up leg
-Return of Savanti parts one and 2....don has a now full blown cold
(and then there is the Tales of Master Yoshi episode followed by adventures in Turtle-sitting)
don't you think after 3 episodes that he would have mutated from the scratch? and then the thing that makes it the biggest problem, is that after they beat Savanti, they get stuck in the past for 3 whole months because of the loss of the septor....so technically wouldn't he have had to mutate by then?
lol sure i didn't realize it till i started watchin them all in a row, and knew what was gonna happen
after seeing this, i wondered if there was any other timeline problems like this that "don't make sense" that anyone else has thought of or noticed?

Makes sense I guess the only thing I can think of is it took awhile for it to manifest in him and being there for that long is why it triggered so fast after they got back? I don't know it's a cartoon and with the errors of the old show I can't complain.
Good find though I totally over looked that.

One big problem earlier in the series: The Ultimate Ninja
The Ultimate Ninja wanted to challenge and kill the Shredder himself, but he challenged Leonardo since he beat him to the punch. However, this episode took place after the whole "Secret Origins" arc, when the TMNT found out Shredder wasn't dead after all, and at the end, the way he died "again" was by failing to escape from his own bomb in the TCRI building. So, at this point, technically speaking, nobody killed Shredder.
Now how come no one thought to bring this up to the Ultimate Ninja when he first showed up?
Come to think of it, how did he even find out about the Shredder's decapitation in the first place? And if he found out about this, how did he not find out that three minutes later, Shredder got right back up, picked up his own head, walked away, later resumed his chase of the TMNT and the Utroms, and ended up accidently getting himself "killed again" afterwards?

Maybe Splinter told his Father about what went down in the TCRI building?
I didn't think it was a problem that Don took so long to react to the outbreak chemical (whatever it was). He also didn't become as grotesque as many of the other outbreak victims. I mean, really, why'd he turn into GameraDon instead of a KafkaDon?

The problem with this argument is that you are expecting strict adherence to the laws of fictional conventions. In other words, you're complaining that it's not clicheed enough. To me, this is hardly a problem or an error. If I had to give an explanation, I'd say it's emulating the idea that sometimes truth is stranger than fiction (in as much as they aren't regularly breaking that fourth wall in this series to remind you that it's just make-believe). But, good eye. ;)

I had always wondered about all this myself. But, I just figure this is one of those significant pieces of information that was just too restrictive for the writers to bother with. If they had told us the answer back then, we may have had complaints more valid than this about the sequence of events and such as we approached the end of the series.
I mean, really, why'd he turn into GameraDon instead of a KafkaDon?
His already mutated DNA was less susceptible to the outbreak agent. That's why he was less threatening than even the pigeon. Did he really look less grotesque than a giant cockroach though? :P
Honestly, what I always wanted to know was why Splinter never said anything about The Shredder being an utrom before they found out for themselves. And, why The Guardians assumed he was killed by being decapitated when surely they knew that he was an utrom. And, what about the supposed Shredder clones in "Return to New York"? The explanations for all of this is "whatever the audience can come up with, but an official answer won't be given so that the writers won't be accused of contradicting themselves later". So, a lot of answers are just too convenient. But, it wouldn't be very exciting if they did explain every little thing to death and not look back.
As far as unexplained areas of the story I fully expect an explanation for, there's how Churell came to possess the mystics. I believe an episode of The Lost Season will explain that aspect. But, I somehow the 'Shredder clones' will ever be mentioned again. Oh well. No story is perfect. But, this one is well past 'good enough'. :)

I don't think Don took too long to mutate at all (I thought so as well when I first saw the episodes though).
The goo was put out in the open in Aliens Among Us, and months pass before Outbreak finally comes around and the turtles come across mutants for the first time (that's the first time, right?). In Scion of the Shredder (between Aliens Among us and Outbreak) Don mentions Leo's been gone for more than two months, and that's not counting the time that went by in the other episodes as well, and the time it took for Leo to get back home right after.
The three months in Return of Savanti plus the time gone by in the other episodes between Outbreak and Adventures in Turtlesitting seems to be about the same then. Maybe Don took a little bit longer to mutate, but not much I think. A difference of weeks at the most?

That is true the outbreak took months to reach the state it was in in the episode "Outbreak." Now one potential plot hole is the sewer worker and his fast mutation. Well for all we know he was mutalated by the mutant insects and the amount of his effection made the mutation much quicker.
Donny on the other hand only got scratched. After the scratch he has as much time before he mutated as it took the outbreak to hit new york. Give or take a couple weeks.
Oh perhaps the guarduans did not know how advanced Shredder's suit was. Perhaps they believed that with the head chopped off the body would be inactive and they could easily get Shredder at any time.

very true, but i can't remember, did the Guardians actually see leo "kill" shredder (by getting decapitated)? or maybe they just said that he was defeated which he technically was:-?
I remember they were watching from the rooftop of a different building. But, I think they did only say that The Shredder has been defeated. But, with doubts that he was dead, why did EVERYONE act like he was no longer a threat? It's just a convenient way of keeping the audience on their toes.

aight, it had been a while since i had seen that episode so that part was a bit fuzzy, and of course everyone has to act like that....if splinter had still been there, then u would have heard him say something like "shredder is not an easy foe to beat" or maybe they would zoom in on his face and he woulnd't be so happy go lucky about it, lol

Don underwent his own Metamorphosis, but actually the Kafka story was much more disturbing. And Don did get nicked by the buggish SPLICINGKKIT. Hey, look, it was the best thing I could think of at the moment. :)
