So, the new JSA-series is out, with beautiful cover art by none other than Alex Ross. And as usual, the JSA can be described as the "Grampa Squad", except for Maxine Hunkel and Stargirl who drag the average age of the group below 80.
However, the story itself looks quite interesting. Apparently, there's someone who needs Superhero-Bloodlines eradicated. To accomplish that, the party or parties of unknown hire/s a lot of obscure characters to kill other obscure characters. I mean, who knew there was a Mr. America in the DCU? But the whole bloodline thing takes a rather interesting aspect when you look at the current roster of the JSA and their familiar situations. Also, I seem to know which kid gets targeted first.
But what bothers me is the new Starman. The schizo bastard unmasked at the end of #2 and... nobody knows who he is. He is just some guy in a mask and you probably need to be some real oldschool nerd to know his identity or the identity of his parent/grandparent or his origin in general. And to top things off and really make things interesting (not to mention inseparably intertwined with Ross' own DCU), he refers to Kingdom Come, Alex Ross' masterpiece.
So, who do you think the new Starman is? Seriously, I have no clue. I can't even say whether it's an ancient character in a new packaging or a new guy.
