now that all of season 3 has been released I thought we might discuss it, what's good and what's not that great about it. I personally think season 3 is the best season of TMNT but there are also boring episodes here and there. Not a surprise though, 47 episodes... thats alot. Anyway. My favourite episodes are:

Take me to your leader
Baware of the Lotus
Leatherhead meets the Rat King
Attack of The Big Maac
Shredderville
Pizza By The Shred
Return of The Fly
Casey Jones: Outlaw Hero
The Fifth Turtle
Turtles on Trial
and of course the 3-part finale.

Episodes I don't like are:

Mr. Ogg goes to town (Stupid episode, annoying voice of Ogg)
Gang's all here (really hate that one with a passion!!!)
Maltese Hamster
Case of The Hot Kimono
Turtles, Turtles Everywhere
Mutagen Monster

All in all David wise, Michael Reeves and Francis Moss wrote the best episodes IMO. David Wise did however write 2 episodes I dislike, Mr. Ogg being the worst episode he ever wrote. Michael Reeve's poorest efford is I thing The Grybyx. A special mention should be given to the awful Gangs all here. That episode pretty much pisses all over the whole mutagen-idea and I really hate that the Turtles don't recognise Rocksteady and Bebop in such an obvious disguise. But the good thing, Michaelangelo grows new shoes when mutaded into human... LOL. What I love about season 3 are all the wonderful new characters, the ones from the comics... Rat King, Leatherhead, Usagi, Casey Jones.
What do you think?

Best:

i really disliked the Mr. Ogg goes to town, but other than that i really didn't have too much problem with them, i mean, there are some that aren't as good as the others, but the Maltese Hamster was kinda funny, trying to make fun of that old radio show or whatever is was(don't remember), but my favorite by far was the pizza by the shred, probably because it was the one i watched all the time because i had taped it, lol, but the 3 parter was pretty good too, along with the few others that Krangenstein put down

Why so much Mr. Ogg hate? i liked him..

I don't really remember that well most episodes to say but i do think Volume 4 was one of the least enjoyable volumes of S3. I have written 'mini-reviews' on most episodes in their respective DVD volume threads.

I agree that it was lame for Michaelangelo to lose his "ninja powers" when he turned into a human. He wasn't born with ninja arts as a mutant turtle specific thing, but he learned them from his master. When splinter became a rat, he didn't lose his ninja skills. Also, that episode features one of April's worst ever ideas on how to get a story. Her jacket over the jumpsuit gettup was the sorriest excuse for a gang member ever.

I rather liked the Gangs All here, but then it is a Michaelangelo centric episode so that could be why.

I agree though that it was infinately annoying and contradictory to the story to have the turtles unable to retain their ninja abilites just because they turn human. They are ninjas because they where trained as ninjas not because they are turtles. It would have been more reasonable to have the writter have them become more vulnerable while they are human than to lose their "powers" since being turtles doen't give them any powers except perhaps built in armour that is their shells. If anything it should have been written that turning human would hinder them only because they would have to get used to their humam bodies and not have as tough of an exterior.

haha oh come one, the snow ball fight was a classic in the Great Boldini, and yes i thought it was rather weird that he[Don Turtelli] would tickle people with a feather, but i don't know why u didn't atleast like it a little bit just because of the fact that the Rat King was in it, since "the rat king rules"

...and in the Missing Map, u forgot the fact that his stupid brother [Walt] is in it too:lol:

...ok personally i didn't mind zach much, the reason they put zach and Caitlin in the episodes because kids would have loved to be friends with the turtles and could relate to these guys

but i couldn't agree with you more on the Cowabunga Shredhead, i loved it as much now as i loved it when i was little, i could watch it over and over, it's darn funny

I agree with you that Raphael's voice in Ninja Sword of Nowhere was unbearable, but the episode was very good. i loved the sun-dried tomato joke. And the antique-aliens at the end were hilarious. Also I really like Four Musketurtles, very funny episodes. Some times the silly, or even stupid episodes can be hilarious, sort of guilty pleasure. Episodes I really like, but still think are mindless and stupid, are Super Rocksteady and mighty Bebop, Cowabunga Shredhead, Camera Bugged and Tertle Terminator. Really funny stuff... Season 4 had many really funny but stupid episodes.

you know when I was little I hated Zack the fifth turtle and the episodes that he appeared in. But to be honest when I watch the episodes with him in them objectively I rather like him. In fact I think his whole fifth turtle persona was handled rather nicely. Although I agree that the Great Boldinni was lame and so was Zach's dumbass girlfriend!

About the Gangs' All Here Michaelangelo mentions several times that he can't be a ninja in his human form but I noticed that he did quit well with the whole sneaking thing like a ninja does. He was able to stick to the shadows and follow April and the gang members with out getting detected. And did any one notice how Mike was, a very ninja way, sneak behind the door with out being scene in the instant that April opened and closed the door?

The one thing that i didn't like about Gangs All here was the fact that they didn't let Michaelangelo have more time interacting as human teenager. I think the writters missed out on a good plot by not having Michaelangelo interacting and being put in more situations with other teenagers, and then forcing him to choose between being normal and being a ninja turtle. That would have been interesting.

Having Michaelangelo turned into a human was a stupid idea in the first place and ripps off mythology... I remember being annoyed as a kid, so no one tell me it'+s onlay a cartoon please ;)

i've been playing around with the idea of writting my own version of The Gang's All Here where the whole conflict with April needing rescue from the gang is more in the back ground and Michaelangelo getting the chance to do more normal human things and interacting with teenagers his own age is more of the main plot. However I don't know how well I could pull it off or if people would hate it since it would be a redone work of a classic episode. Most people do their own orginal work when writting fan fic instead redoing alreasy written episodes.

Man its been about two years since i've written fan fic and i really want to get back into my writing.

I don't know how everybody else feels, but I don't think "The Gang's All Here" deserves to be called a "classic episode." Copyrighted yes, but that's about it.

I think I know what you meant to say, though. hehe

My sentiments exactly. I still need to get Vol3, 5, and 6, but most of those episodes were hit or miss. The Casey Jones episode was the only reason I bought it, and Take me to Your Leader was the only other one I felt was memorable.

Mutagen Monster is horrid. I've been on a podium talking anti-Mutegen Monster retorhic (sp?) for the last several years. Nothing is funny in it. Maybe Vernon's reaction to the glass of milk, but the whole thing was Cow, Cowabunga, and Dude ranch puns... blhh!

I am surprised how many hate Zack. I know he' s not a brilliant character, but he's ok, so much more tolerable than other kid characters in other series'.
I also think Rob Paulson gave Zack a very good voice, too bad he couldn't do the same for mr. OGG. Also I want to mention donatello's substitude voice-actor was not that bad, at least compared to Raphael, Shredder and Krangs alternative voice actors.

Oh, this is fun!
I found season 3 to be most a filler season with a lot of dumb episodes. I loved them as a kid but now rewatching them, some of them are alittle out there and don't have much to offer. Either way, it still consists of some pretty fun episodes!
I hope you guys don't mind if I just categories them all into three different groups, lol. :ohwell:

Ones I liked
Enter the Rat King - introduced one of the main guest characters and the first to not have Shredder.
Turtles at the Earth's Core
20,000 Leaks Under the City
Take Me to Your Leader
Turtles, Turtles Everywhere
Cowabunga Shredhead - one of my favourites from this season
Green With Jealousy - I always loved this one. And that first shot of the technodrome was awesome too! And I love Krang's original voice but this one is just GOLD! He sounds like a lamb!
Pizza by the Shred
Beware the Lotus - I liked Lotus. How many episodes was she in in all? 4? She was a good character.
Blast from the Past - Another major favourite!
Leatherhead: Terror of the Swamp
Michaelangelo's Birthday - The first episode and only in this season to have one of the turtles in the title and it was my Mikey!
Leatherhead Meets the Rat King
Shredderville
The Big Rip Off
The Big Break-In
The Big Blow Out

Average
Turtles on Trial - I never cared for it when younger but now seeing it again, it was a nicely drawn one.
Attack of the 50 Foot Irma
The Maltese Hamster
The Old Switcheroo
Burne's Blues
The Fifth Turtle
The Ninja Sword of Nowhere - This one could have been much better.
Four Musketurtles
Invasion of the Turtle Snatchers
Return of the Fly
Casey Jones: Outlaw Hero
Mutagen Monster
Corporate Raiders from Dimension X
Usagi Yojimbo - I wasn't a big fan of Usagi.
Case of the Hot Kimono
Usagi Come Home
The Great Boldini
The Missing Map
The Gang's All Here
The Grybyx - it was nice to see the Neutrinos again
Mr. Ogg Goes to Town - funny!
Bye Bye Fly

Ones I didn't care for
Beneath These Streets - I just thought this episode was boring.
Sky Turtles
April's Fool - I thought it was alright but rewatching it, it was one of the poorly drawn ones.
Attack of Big MACC - for some reason, I was never a fan.
Camera Bugged
Super Bebop and Mighty Rocksteady
The Making of Metalhead
The Turtle Terminator

I notice from some of these that you are not fond of robot episodes! I agree with some of them here, but overall I agree with many that has already been said.

Mr. Ogg episode was :x . I must have forgot, but I almost refuse to believe that David Wise wrote that one. He has written some of the best episodes, even though at times they were almost impossible to believe.

Hmm, yeah. Depends on the type of robot though, I guess. I think an episode that has one robot like the Big MACC or the Turtle Terminator just doesn't do much for me. Those and the random alien ones. They don't make for good storylines because there's too much that they could do with them to make for "convenient" endings; which is another topic I could come up with. lol

I like irma too, and some ways I thought she was a more decent person than April was. I love April but re-watching these episodes I'm noticing how her single-mindedness often led her to be inconsiderate.

Irma may have been pathtically despret on occasion but at least when a sitaution was dangerous she had enough sence to listen to the turtles instead of going off and causing more problems by putting her self in the fire line.

and it didn't matter the spiecious of the man eighther, or if it was even human! Just so long as the it had a deep voice and looked vaguely male she was all over it.

I never noticed how kinky irma was when I was little, there is one episode where she is bitching and moaning about how her boyfriends idea of a "double date" was to show up with another girlfriend, to April and then April says (because she is on to a story) "I'm to some thing hot" to which Irma replies "Find out if he wants to date...with the two with us!"

wait!! Irma wants to go on a double date with a guy and April as the other other woman? Wasn't she just complaining about her boyfriend pulling the same thing? But it doesn't appear that irma minds if its April thats the other woman. I guess Irma likes three-ways  that kind of puts a new slant April and irma's friendship!
