Uh, not anymore anyways. He's dead and his daughter/adopted daughter/student/associtate or what ever she is, Karai, is stepping in his shoes.

It's not that he doesn't exist....it's that they are keeping with the first movie's continuity that he was killed. (or that he was killed as super Shredder in the second movie) Anyway, he's dead.

I expect him to be in the movie in the form of flashbacks...but not as a major plot point

Shredder is dead, because we are sick to death of him over 20 years. His better half, Karai, is the villian now.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: he WILL be back for the second installment. How do I know? The makers have tried to "conceal" it enough but with this latest set visit, they openly claim (however subtle) that he'll be back in the sequel. Now we'll get to see Karai AND The Shredder, and possibly someone new. I don't what I'm more excited about: the film or it's possible sequel.

Heh, Shark, I'm glad someone else thinks that, too.

How do we even know Karai will survive by the end of this movie to make it to the sequel?

Heh, Shark, I'm glad someone else thinks that, too.

Thinks which? Karai better, or sick of Shredder?

Trust me Shark, that is one question I really don't want to answer right now. It's tempting but I must restraint.

i am not sick of shredder and it will be very odd to have a movie without him but i do like the fact they aren't 100% dependent on him as a villian. i hope they are able to explore a wide variety of villians and maybe shredder be the overseer of them all or something (similar to the kingpin)

It doesn't entirely. It will be an 'hommage', like Superman Returns was to the Chris Reeve films, but not exactly a sequel.

I think Shredder is a great villain dont get me wrong but I'm sick as hell of people reusing him over and over again. I'm really glad to see that there using some new people for this one because I've seen enough of shredder in the comics, cartoons and anything else.

I also heard that shredder will be returning in the sequel....cant this dude stay dead?

If Magneto and Lex Luthor and everyone else ever learn the secret of staying dead, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to teach Shred-head. :P

Shredder might appear in the sequel. His death in the second TMNT flick was very lame and unconvincing.

Thats too dull and gets boring real fast. Bring on the fantasy! Thats what the TMNT is, 70% sci-fi and fantasy.

I think we will see him again at the end of the movie like Barbossa. Remember, there is an action figure of Movie Shredder

Digg is a huge community and this just made the front page..

they are definately dissapointed about no shredder, this is actually pretty bad propaganda for the new movie.

Maybe the last Superman movie would have been better if they did just that. Superman gets boring and stale when all he fights is Lex Luthor. Shredder has been dead for awhile in the comics. Let him RIP and let Peter Laird stretch his creativity a little more than writing another "The Turtles triumph over Shredder yet again" plotline. The guy DID co-create one(four?) of the greatest pop culture memories in alot of our childhoods. Give him a little slack and wait until people actually see the film before you all start yelling that it's gonna suck.

I agree with EVERYTHING this guy said.

can anyone link to post or interview by kevin monroe that explains why it was essential to not have shredder?

Yeah, this is bad. A few *****atins who's knowledge of the TMNT ends with the old toon is didappointed because the Shredder(a villian thats been dead for 2 decades now in the comics), isn't in this ONE movie.

Kevin Munroe and the crew are in real trouble

THEY MADE A COMIC OUT OF THE CARTOON SHOW??

God these people are slow.

Are people mentally retarded, the comic series had Shredder in like 3 arcs total. Why the hell does everyone think he's the ultimate villain that TMNT have to fight? Yeah he was in the cartoon for awhile big deal. I'm sick of him. Their doing something new, good! If they did Shredder again I'd be pissed. That'd be like doing the origin again.

Don't tell us. Tell them. I fully agree with your argument. We probably all do here.

ThemanthatwouldbeRaphael

Exactly, thats why Batman Begins worked. They re established the hero before they brought in the main adversary. Why should the TMNT be denied that opprotunity?

You aren't trying to convince us, I was just trying to point out most of the digg community (which is WAY larger than any TMNT fandom online), so that is why it matters, we know TMNT fans are going to see it but those are the 'regular' people that help the movie sell tickets and they are now being negative about the film, its definately really bad word of mouth for the movie however 'irrational' it may be.

The original cartoon made Shredder THE TMNT villain. Everyone grew up with the old show, which is why we always think about him.

That's why the 2k3 series featured Shredder so heavily as well, (outside of Season 4 and FF), he's THE #1 villain everyone thinks about for TMNT. 4kids kept him much longer in the series than the original comics did, and for good reason.

Hell, Playmates is making a Movie figure of Shredder despite the fact that he's not even in the movie, and they're doing it because they know Shredder sells.

In any case, I find it amusing that so many interviews has Munroe suggesting Shredder may turn up in a possible sequal. If they stick with Movie 2's continuity...wonder how he'll come back this time...since several years passed, didn't they? I'm sure he's still not under all those boards.

TMNT 2: RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD SHRED-HEAD!

But, seriously, this is NOT a sequel. It's an hommage. That's why they aren't totally bound by all the details of the live-action movies.

Three arcs? I thought Shredder died in the very first issue. Don blow his ass up with a grenade. How did he return from that?

Yeah but the difference between Shredder and Joker, Joker never gets old ^^ And Scarecrow was wasted...

The real Shredder, Oroku Saki, died in the first issue, but the Foot clone him with Worms to try and bring him back to life after that.

That's where those three "clone Shredders" come from, who were also in the new show, they were failed attempts to resurrect Shredder with the worm colony.

Actually, they didn't "clone" him. They put him back together.

In the first story, Leo disabled Shredder with a sword cut to the arm. Then Leo offered his sword to Shredder so that he could commit seppuku. Shredder decided he'd do so with a thermite grenade, and take them along with him. But Don threw his bo at Shredder and knocked him off the roof, just before the grenade went off. Shredder blew himself up.
Then his minions came around and picked up the pieces, and through some combination of science and sorcery, resurrected him, along with some bizarre Shredder knockoffs, such as the Shredder with the lobster claws... which if you ask me, is a nod to Kevin E. working in a lobster restaurant before TMNT started earning money for their creators. :P

Now that I think of it... thermite is stuff that burns everything it touches. How did they manage to resurrect a body that was probably burnt to a crisp? Hmm.

His arm was left over, and I think a few ither pieces. They fed them to the colony worms and they took care of the rest.

Wanted to put my two cents in. Even though he's dead in the comics. The Shredder still had a presence in the books. Its because of the Shredder's death the Foot had their vendetta against the Turtles.

Its because of the Shredder's second and final death that Karai had to step in and end the war going on in New York.

Even in the two comics after the original run even dead, the Shredder's shadow was felt. In the Image comic, Raph actually sympathizing with the Foot and later finding Saki's private lair.

Also Lady Shredder, but the series ended before we knew more on her.

Then in the current series well we know his lingering shadow has finally been felt there too. In the comics the Shredder has become the boogyman for the Turtles. The nightmare that won't end. Even though Saki died long ago the impact of the idenity he created and his impact with the Foot will always hound the Turtles.

Okay! :)

That whole resurrection thing always creeped me out... definitely not a kiddie story. Undead Shredder, gack. Kind of like the original Rat King.

Then you had the Elite and their zeal to avenge Shredder's death, a pretty nasty bunch. I found them to be more threatening than Shredder himself.
It's in a sense like comparing the T-rex in Jurassic Park with the pack of Deinonych-- err, sorry, veloceraptors. The raptors were far scarier to me, because they were more subtle and a greater number of them.

His shadow might be felt but he's not there. If they do Shredder again it better be "Worms Of Madness" style. Hell I wish they'd just do a freaking PG-13 movie.

TMNT will never get a PG-13 movie or TV show. Not until Laird isn't in control of it anymore. That guy can't license for crap. He will always make kids shows. If one of us fans got our hands on it we would be smart about it and do something like Ultimate Avengers.

Go to Lion's Gate they will put ANYTHING on DVD. Including a new TMNT show and you damn well know a DVD release show could sell.

Would explain the possibly why Karai would ally with a company for their cloning tech. Though my only question is.. if their following the movies where's Tatsu?! Poor guy.. nobody remembers the forgotten Shredder lackey :p
