TMNT film in crunch time

The director and producer of TMNT, a new animated film based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, told SCI FI Wire that there's a lot more to do before the film's release, including finding some new popular music. "We're working around the clock to finish the 81-minute action film," director Kevin Munroe said in an interview. That includes 400 people working in Hong Kong six days a week who have been animating the TMNT film since 2004, he said.

Producer Thomas K. Gray added: "Right now, we're picking the music. We have some artists from Altantic Records who are submitting songs that they wrote specially for the film. Some of the artists are fans of the Turtles."

Unsure if they will go with a song or two or just stick to a universal soundtrack, Gray and the filmmakers are certain of one thing: The movie won't feature the techno or disco-like score of the 1990s live-action Turtles movies.

One of the bands under consideration for this new updated version of the Turtles is Panic! At the Disco, whose members grew up watching the Turtles on television and wanted to write something special. The animated feature will be released nationwide on March 23

If it weren't for the "we need today's music for this" attitude I'd want to hear Queen's 'Stone Cold Crazy' because it sounds so much like the original NES game's theme.

Interesting... I'm glad that they won't re-use any of the older songs from the 1990 movie. Hearing "Turtle Power" on this movie would just be too much of a pushback. I wouldn't mind something from Jhon Du Perez again though. Shredder's suite is and awesome instrumental.

Cobra Starship has a song on the soundtrack and it was just recorded. You can go to there myspace add them as a friend and view the bulletin save the drama for your mama but heres what was said about it.


*speaking of Shredder. Did you know that there’s a new Ninja Turtles movie coming out? Yeah, but did you know that we just did a song for the soundtrack of said movie? Thought not! Yeah, yeah I know: First a movie about reptiles and now one on amphibians—mutated, teenaged, and trained in the martial arts— but nevertheless, amphibian. There was no way we could say no. You see, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (or TMNT, as I like to refer to them) were my favorite when I was growing up. I even had the original comic books (albeit the reissued graphic novels—but nevertheless, I delved deep into the dark side and past of the TMNTs). I always aspired to be an amalgamation of both Michelangelo and Leonardo’s best traits. I wanted to be a fun-loving party-dude, but also have a deep sense of right and wrong and a comprehensive grasp of philosophy. Naturally, of course, I failed at both. But I have been redeemed at last by being able to contribute to my heroes’ soundtrack! Our song is called “Bebop v. Rocksteady,” and it plays over a big fight scene in the movie. After we wrote it, I thought, “hey, this is a great song, but it feels like it’s missing something.” I felt like it still wasn’t as good as “Snakes/Bring it.” Then I had an epiphany! It was missing but one line: “Oh, I’m ready for it!” ** So I added that line, pressed the “#1 Hit Single” button on the console and WHAMMO: the song was complete.

Personally, I wasn't all that impressed with their song for the Snakes on a Plane soundtrack.

It's 81 minutes without credits, meaning it's either the same length or a little longer than Secret of the Ooze, and 5 minutes shorter than the first movie. No need to worry.

Ugh, I recently found out what it was like to be in crunch time for an animated film. *turns in the direction of Hong Kong* Stay strong, guys! Be sure to hit the "awesome" button plenty of times and drink lots of Mountain Dew. :P

Or maybe some Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying. The tremolo-picked part of "Morning Waits" would be great for a chase or fight scene. But that's just my opinion.

I think they need REAL BANDS! not these over exsposed bands like panic at the disco. Here is some artists they should consider.

Yeah I know they are all female metal bands but they are true artists in my opinoun. I would like to hear some Marylyn Manson and Skillet but I can't see Marylyn Manson being on a Ninja Turtle soundtrack.

Has anybody actually ever looked at some of the stuff on film tracks in the last decade alone? There's always going to be crap that's over hyped or popular at the time, not taking into account individual taste.

I still prefer straight scores... without songs in 'em. But maybe they'll be tolerable. At least, I hope so.

I'd love to hear Queen, even if it'd never happen. Especially if it were just the Turtles doing it acapella as they were training or something.

According to the credits on the official movie site.... the music is done by Klaus Badelt, who's done many great movies (as well as Poseiden and Catwoman...but hey...nobody's perfect).
