In the numerous times I've watched the first flick I never got that joke when they're in the sewers walking April back to her apartment and Mikey says, "11th and Bleeker? Nope this is only 9th(think he says 9th) Street." What was the joke?

I believe it has something to do with the smell of the sewer, doesn't it?
They can tell by the smell where they're at...
Or I could be horribly mistaken, in which case, y'all can just shoot me :)

Ah. I figured it was something like that just never thought the answer would be simple lol, now that I think about it I finally "get it" even if it isn't one of Mikey's funniest utterances.
Wow guess the mods can put this to rest haha...

This is the most reasonable meaning I ever took from it. It's just some "let's weird out the human we've just met who is already a bit freaked out by us" sort of humor. Not "laugh out loud" funny by any means...

Yeah I had the same idea from that joke, as gobo mentioned, because after April's suggestion of pizza, and for toppings, Mike said, "Oh, you know, the usual, flies, stinkbugs..."
(which bothered me because that's more like frog food than turtle food) :p

Maybe 11th and bleeker stinks or something and they're like 'sniff, sniff' nope, doesn't stink yet, it's only 9th street'.

I'm curious. Has any TMNT fan who lives in NYC or visited there ever walked all the way to 11th & Bleeker (where April fictionally lived) just to see what really was there? Cause I've been to NYC a few times and I have to admit to having had the ugre to walk there just to go & see, though I never actually did it.

Hmm. I don't remember details of what is actually on that corner, I used to live in Soho which is farther south and a bit east of the Village. I was familiar with Bleecker street further east, there were some kewl shops there, but that was in the early 80's. It was pretty funny to hear that address mentioned in the movie when it came out. I thought, "April's in the trendy bohemian-artist part of the city. I like her already!" (Also liked her choice of vehicles, that "stone age" split window VW van.) :D
There's people who have taken photos recently of that street corner, I hope they post the links.
