Interesting interview. I jumped the gun thinking the first prequel comic came out today. Next week then, okay. Interesting notes on "continuity" too. It's been said before what Pete considers continuity. But they all seem like alternate universes to me allowing fans to pick and choose their favorites because I know a lot of us like Archie and the Old Toon.

Yeah, the continuity thing is interesting. The Archie books deserve to just be their own universe instead of simply "non-canon." :tconfuse:

But whatever Peter wants to declare, that's fine, I'll just end up picking my own canon anyways, just like I do with Star Wars.

Glad to hear that the script used for the novelization was an early version. Should still be a good amount of surprises in there...although I still have not read the last chapter....

Prequel comics, beyond awsome. I think I'll read the Leo issue right before I see the movie, so I can jump strait in.

I can't wait till Laird finishes his timeline. I want to see which issues in vol 1 he considers cannon.

Question on the whole non-canon statement, in the leaked photos don't we see the scepter and Honor Guard mask from the third movie on the wall of history? How can that, and subsequently Secret of the Ooze, be non-canon then? I understand it's Peter's list, but did they just slip that in the movie for fun then? So I guess that's my discrepency.

As for Archie though, I agree with everyone else that it should be at least considered its own universe and not just non-canon. But I guess if it's something that Peter didn't have a creative hand in he really doesn't care for it, and I can understand that to a certain degree. But it doesn't mean I don't love all other TMNT incarnations (yes even NM).

My understanding is that they were quiet nods to what has been before, they may look exactly like those relics... but that doesn't necessarily make them the same.

I believe it's been said that the first film is 100% cannon. From the second film you can take that Shredder has been defeated and the TMNT know their origins as cannon (though the actual storyline is not cannon).

The actual storyline of the second film and the entire third film are not considered cannon but they are also not going to be contradicted by the new film (hence the nods to them with the trophy room).

"The first two dozen (roughly) issues of the first volume of the TMNT comic published by Mirage are official continuity, as are several other Vol. 1 issues. All of Vol. 2 is official, as is the current (though on hiatus) Vol. 4, as are all issues of Tales of the TMNT, both volumes. Um, the first movie is also canon, as is the new one. All of that, for the most part, comprises the official canon, especially for Pete. The new cartoon is another universe but it too is considered canon, at least unto itself. The first cartoon show and the Next Mutation series and the Japanese series and the middle two movies and the Archie and Image comics and the daily newspaper strip and the video game worlds are non-canon. Fans may and will point out discrepancies, I'm sure."

I agree with everything here! I'm glad they are throwing away the two sequel films.

Laird/Murphy are basically saying this is, "Mirage continuity" and everything else is in its seperate continuity.

By that logic, the original cartoon, the 2k3 series, Movies 2 and 3, the Image and Archie comics, etc. don't exist. I'm sure that's not what he meant, he just meant its not part of Mirage continuity, which makes a lot more sense.

The only thing Laird seems to want to pretend never existed is the Next Mutation series, (for obvious reasons), but everything else is just recognized as being in its own contintuity.

I just hope "The River" gets included in Mirage continuity. It's one of my favorite Raph stories ever! Last time I saw something in the letter column though it looked like Laird might exclude Veitch's issues. But I still have hope because Sons of the Silent Age is considered cannon and there's a great big flashback to The River in SOTSA. So unless Laird wants Lawson to remove a full page of his artwork next time Mirage reprints that issue, The River is cannon by default.:)
