View Full Version : Why do some people hate the third movie so much?

I just rewatched the original movie trilogy recently to prepare myself for the new movie, and I ended up liking the third movie far more than I remembered.

Movie 3 has far less cheese than Movie 2 did, and the plot is actually pretty good. It's a shame that the Turtles costumes aren't that good, but I don't see what's wrong with the production values of the rest of the movie.

So, what were/are your thoughts on Movie 3?

I don't get why movie 3 is so hated, either. It IS a good and fun story. The costumes weren't made by Henson and thus by default are inferior. So what? Deal with it and enjoy the rest of the movie.

Hated it because of the lack of real depth, the comedy was awful, nothing was really accomplished, the sub-plot about Raph bonding with the boy was totally out of character etc...

So what if people DID'NT like it? If you enjoyed it, Whoop-de-freaking-Doo. Let people bash what they want, with reason to do so.

These days it's becoming impossible to bash anything without the minority high horse riders getting snippy about it.

Atmosphere. I'm not sure how to explain it at the moment, but compared the the first two (especially the first) the third just didn't have the atmosphere necessary for me to really enjoy it. It's not unwatchable by ay means but I have better choices in my DVD collection meaning that TMNT 3 isn't amongst my top movies to watch.

- bad costumes
- intolerably lame one-liners
- overexagerated acting (hamminess, cartooniness, w/e)
- lack of Shredder (sad but true, that's what the passive audience was after)

Personally, I've decided to look past all these negatives to appreciate a well written story upon last viewing. It's much more enjoyable that way.

Here's my review of the movie. (http://www.filmsy.com/reviews/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-iii/)

Its the only one of the original films I got to see in the theater. Honestly, it's only marginally worse than Secret of the Ooze, which I also dislike. The only thing that really made it worse for me were the costumes.

There were so many villians they could of put on there and they put two random villians.I want shredder in the third movie and rat king, and leatherhead. That would have been so awsome.

Its far better than the second one,

didnt accomplish anything? well by that logic neither did the second one, shredder revives somehow only to die by the end again.

people don't like it since shredder is not in it and neither any classic/recognisable villian and it involved timetravel.

I found the humor better than II, the fights are cool the turtles use their weapons again! The new suits while not as good allow for better movement, going to ancient japan was fun.

here are things i liked and didnt like
-animatronics sucked(look at the way they talk)(its like a sock puppet)
-jokes were corny
-new villian
-the idea of the cepter was great
-story line was good
-only two fights with all four turtles
-raph is not so angry....more friendly....which totally made him a differant character

The truth is: I never actually saw any of the three movies the whole way through until I purchased the box-set in 2004, and I was 17. I had seen a good portion of the first movie and bits and pieces of the third but none of the second.

It's a good thing I waited so long, cause it enabled me to appreciate every movie for what it was. As for the third, while the costumes were tacky, after seeing it once or twice, I got over it. As for Zariustwo saying Raphael is out of character. I say f*** this "out-of-character" bull****. I like the fact that the turtles personalities vary a little bit from universe to universe, I don't care that much for the turtles remaining their stereotypical selves, I like variety. Besides, it wasn't really out of character at all, what Raphael did was come to terms with his anger issues, and lectured a new friend about it, I say that makes for great character development. Same with Michaelangelo and his seriousness at the end, when he considered not going back and staying in a place where there were people who appreciated him. And what's more, they actually got to be somewhere outside New York for once.

That movie is God Awful, for every reason that the angry nintendo nerd pointed out. I was so disappointed as a kid.

Actually, Casey's ancestor was an English trader under Walker's employment; they were there negotiating guns for gold. The guy wasn't Japanese.

It's satire. Let it be.

2 had cheese but 2 also had the best and most action scenes out of all 3 films. All 3 had was wet willie time and some generic villains that didn't belong in a turtles movie.

I dunno. I never hated the third movie. Well, maybe cause:
a) I watched it as a 6-7 years old kid 9-10 years ago for the first (and, well, kind of only) time
b) That was my first TMNT live action movie I saw. The second one being actually TMNT II several years later. Yeah, I saw TMNTI the last. Backwards order. But hey, as they always say: "Save the better for the last" :p I mean, though I don't count TMNTIII as a sucky movie, I think that TMNTI is the best of the TMNT live action movies.

it wasn't horrible but i liked the darkness of the 1st movie. i didn't like the English men at all. those parts were overacted.

The lack of an antagonist who wasn't just a cliche disappointed me, and lost many people's interest. But, that alone didn't make it hate-worthy.

personally i don't hate it either, i never even disliked it because i got it as a birthday present when i was little, and watched it a lot. i can see why people don't like it as much as the first (and 2nd sometimes), but its no where near the hated or terrible category, i mean, come on, its ninja turtles, and its a new story and attempt at a new type of thing, just like they did with fastforward or some of the comics, you win some, you lose some, but you can't always please everyone

Why does TMNT III suck?

Crap costumes
Crap animatronics
Blinding white teeth from creatures who have no dental care
Splinter looked like crap, sounded worse and moved even more sorse.
Crap script, lame jokes
Lame bad guys
Completely corny as a whole
Watch Angry Nintendo Nerd's reviews, he sums up my opinions perfectly...

I agree with everyone that the costumes are probably the biggest gripe. I actually like 3 probably second best, so it doesn't have as many all out action sequences, it has an original story. 1 was great, but a combination of the first volume of comics and the original toon. 2 was essentially a live action 90 minute OT episode, with Bebop and Rocksteady replaced with Tokka and Rahzar. The only thing 3 had that is from an established TMNT canon was some of the characters and the time scepter. I'll applaud TMNT III if only because it did take the Turtles outside it's established continuity and tried to do something different. I kinda like Walker and Norinaga, maybe not their cronies, but the lead villains weren't that bad, were they?

I have to say I feel the same. It was a real let down compared to the first and second movie. I liked the second movie when I was little because of tokka and rahzar, but the first beats all three movies. They could have used a new villian for the 3rd movie, one we actually had heard of. It was just such a corney movie. It seemed too childish for adults, but had too much stuff that kids wouldn't understand or appreciate as well. It seemed like they failed in targetting a real audience. I'm glad that some of you all can appreciate the movie, and on it's own it's not too bad I guess. But comparing it to the first two, it was horrible.
