Voice Changing

So I know this isn't as much as a problem with the newer cartoon. But did it bug the hell out of anyone else when they used to flip flop with the voices with the old toon? Donatello, Raph, Krang, and Shredder are probably the best examples. They would be different every once in awhile. Donatello's chaging voice was probably the worst, sometimes he would sound like he was holding his nose the whole time and his voice would be so bubbly. Man I hated when they did that. Just wonding if it bugged anyone else.

Speaking of voices, I always noticed when one turtle would be speaking but would be using the voice of another turtle. I can't believe how many times they did that. I'm watching volume 5 of the original series trying to prepare for getting season 4 which is why i'm noting the different voices so much.

Whenever the real voice actors were sick or couldn't make it to perform, they used substitute voices instead for whatever episode they were doing at the time.

I think Leo and Mike are the only two turtles who's voices never had substitutes over all 10 seasons. April never had a substitute either, and I don't think Splinter did either.

As for your other question, yes the various bandana and wrong voice mistakes bugged me a bit, even as a kid, but oh well.

Yes, YES, YES!!! I especially hated the replacement Raphael from season 3. The guy that eventually eventually took over for Rob Paulsen wasn't too bad, though not Rob. The Barry Gordon replacement annoyed me big time, although his Bebop was okay. Any one but Avery as Shredder or Fraley as Krang was alos a disappointment, though Townsend Coleman did a admirable job.

As for the wrong voice/wrong bandanna bit, go read my TMNT episode guide, it's one of the main mistakes in the OT.

No offense to Townsend, but I HATED his Shredder. I loved the guy who came on after him in 1994 season. That, and Jim Cummings wasn't all that bad either. I also hated th replacement Leatherhead voice.

If they do ANYHING to the series, I hope they replace Townsend's Shredder with one of the above in the 1993 season.

I pretty much tolerated the various voice changes that occurred in the 1980s TMNT cartoon. But it did get annoying sometimes.

season three had the most voice changes that I can remember, but I tought Donatello's voice alternate was at least tolerable, and did manage to sound quite a bit like Barry Gordon's Donatello.

Raphael's alternate for season three was just awful! It was just cringe worthy. But I thought the alternate they had for Raphael during the vaction arc of season four was pretty good. His voice was tolerable even though it didn't sound like Rob Paulsen's Raphael, in fact that guys performance was his own Raphael, and if they had to replace him Rob I think he would have been the better choice.

The rest of season four seems to be pretty good about haveing the orginal voice actors playing their respective parts. Which is a real relief.

I didn't think Townsend's shredder was that bad (and no, I'm not just being biased here) it appeared like he was trying very hard to at least sound like James Avery's Shredder, and he did a pretty good job. I think he just tried to hard to sound like James Avery's Shredder instead of doinf his own version of Shredder. That probably would have been more tolerable. I didn't care for Townsend Coleman's Krang though, even though he did a good job at the gross gurglely voice. it just made me cringe when I hear it, ugh. Townsend Coleman even stepped up to the plate for Splinter's voice when Peter Reneday wasn't available. But I don't think we have gotten to any of the episodes where he stands in for him. The fact that Townsend Coleman stood in for all these diffrent characters is a real testiment to how versitle he was as voice actor.

Who did the voice of Shredder during 1993 season of the show? I didn't sound like Townsend or Jim Cimmings doing it. :|

They bugged the crap out of me, espcially Raph in "The Ninja Sword Of Nowhere" but I put up with it. Don's replacement often sounded like his nose was clogged.

Barry Gordon's replacement tried, but the stuffy nose is annoying. As for Raphs... gahhhh I can't believe they actually let him do that, certainly someone else on the cast was a bit better than that dude.

I don't really hold the old toon at the standard I would normally hold everything else at. It exists in its own realm, outside of critical analysis. My brother and I were watching it today (as we at Domino's Pizza...), and I advised him not to make too much sense out of it all. (He was born in '92, so he grew up after the Turtles rocked my world.) I told him that if he scrutinized it too much, then he wouldn't enjoy it.

Sure, Shredder could have easily stabbed all of the Toitles to death every time he knocked them out with some sort of gas, but what fun would that be? Not very for a kid born in '86 (me).

That being said, the whole Turtle-with-the-wrong-voice thing is a given. It's a fun game to play when you're watching an episode: "I wonder who will speak for whom this time...?"

im right up there with you on that, born in 87 myself, it doesnt bother me that much, just something i learned to deal with and get over. What does bother me is when i show my season 1 and 2 dvd's to the kids i babysit sometimes they complain that its not the real turtles, having only seen the new 2k3 show, that bothers me

I know, it just bugs me when they say my beloved turtles of 87 are strange and stupid, the 2k3 show is just to dark for me, same reason i didnt like the comics, i love the light heartedness of the 87 show and the first 3 movies

(she was born in 93) All she does is nit pick and make fun of it and I want to strangle her when she starts busting on my child hood memories. She says she hates old toon Raphael because he isn't tough, and no amount if explaining to her gets her to understand that this was a completely diffreent version of the turtles and they had diffrent personalites.

But then I don't think its just the ninja turtles that she busts on. Any cartoon from the late eightes or early or mid nintes she cracks on because of all the animation mistakes and campiness that was promonate in toons of that time. Seriously I almost fliped on her when she started nit-picking on my Gummi Bears cartoons...oh God...:x

you mean captian planet for instance or Tex Avary, or maybe bonkers, some of the great toons from my childhood. Lol i wish some of those would come out on DVD, oh and lets not forget my fav Darkwing Duck

yeah, I remember. The bear's name was Gusto, and he lived out side the colony (if I remember right) and was the artisic one as well as the inventor. iloved Rob Performance of Gusto he was awsome.

But as far as voice changes go, does any body know why exactly these characters actors had to have stand ins for? Where they just buisy in other projects or what? I notice that in todays cartoons they seem to be more strict about actors voiceing their parts. I hardly ever hear stand in actors in cartoons today unless it is a permenent voice change.

I LOVED Townsends Krang. Much more fitting than his SHredder which I thought was Cring worth ;). As for Raphael replacements, the only one I didn't like was the one from 'Turtle Terminator.' The 1996 Raphael was probably the best with Michael Gough a close second.

I know I should probably know this, but I don't. While watching my DVD's of the original series, I noticed of all the cast, Shredder's and Don's voices changed more often to different voice actors. This show had more voice changes than in any other show I can remember.

Dont think that way, I used to. Every little thing that I didnt like I would compare it to He-Man and how He-Man didnt do it that way.

People get tired of being reminded that they arent He-Man. Even though its true, they arent even close.

The voice thing baffles me. If I remember right (which there's a REAL good chance I don't >.>), some of the voice actors doing multiple parts were replaced for one part, and seemed to be present. Maybe they just needed a break. You should see my poor roomate when she's been doing her Mikey voice too long XD

In Season 3 I hated the replacments for Don and Raph but you get used to them after awhile.
