What you are bidding on is the original artwork for the phenomenally successful Eastman and Laird’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”, Book One. The package includes 40 pages of original artwork (pen and ink on duo shade board), the original pen and ink cover and the original logo design. Also included is a pristine first edition printing of the book (only 3000 were produced), the original artwork for the inside cover and a pencil layout for the first advertisement for the TMNT book - as it appeared in the Comics Buyers Guide.
CRAAAAYYYYZZZEEEE!!!!
its up to $50,000 and the reserve still aint met yet!!!
If I was Laird I would buy it back off him....

Woah! That's some price, it's at $68,112.00 at the moment with 22 bids so far.
If I created and published a comic book I would never sell the original artwork, maybe display it but I'd still want to own it.

I'd bid for them if they didn't cost more than my house. Seriously, it's ridiculous. And I agree with RAPH 'N' ROLL, I wouldn't want to sell it either.

Holy freakin' sh*t. That is totally amazing. On top of everything, you wind up getting the original artwork and a "pristine" issue of #1. Oh... If only I had the MILLIONS of dollars I wish I had.

Ho.....ly......****
Yea, I believe hes been trying to sell this art for a very long time now...on his website (or the Heavy Metal website) he was trying to sell it for 1 million dollars I believe...so I imagine the reserve is pretty high...
Still, that would be so awesome to own, the ultimate collectible items...

How do you mean?
The fact that he is actually selling it or that it could be a con?

Kinda both...I mean, why would Eastman sell them? Seems like a scam to me...but I'm paranoid...

Man I thought I was a huge TMNT fan. That's more money then most people make in a year.
Yeah, I know! O_O; Whoever is bidding is either very rich or very stupid. Or just a giant fan, like you said o-o;

Perhaps it's Laird? :P
And Jester, on the official Heavy Metal website there's a link to it now, and going by Eastman being owner of HM, i'd say its legit...

If someone scammed me out of that much cash I'd go to their house and show them what TMNT taught me to do with weapons.

Well, like I said hes been trying to sell this stuff for a very long time...so its no surprise to me hes finally trying eBay...and I expect his reserve is very high if hes looking to get anywhere near the $1 Million he was looking for previously...

I've been drooling on myself for two days now, trying to think of what I could sell (entire collection, car, electronics, girlfriend) to get my hands on that art. The sad truth is that unless I start in on my organs, I won't make it before the auction is over. My co-worker was astounded today when I told him I wouldn't be surprised if the auction reached a million. He doesn't read comics or collect anything. It got me thinking that the general public probably wouldn't believe original art could sell for prices like that. Hell, in the sixties, almost no one thought it was worth saving, there wasn't much of a market and Marvel used Spider-Man pages to fix leaky patches on the cieling. I wish I were exagerating.
I wonder if this story will make the news at all? Has anyone seen coverage? Maybe I'm just an incurable fiend, but this news was as big as the movie for me. I had no idea he had been trying to sell the art already. I would have bought it for a million. I bet he'll get more now.
The big question is, will it all go to a collector and stay intact, or (more likely) will it sell to a dealer or auction house who will break it up and make a fortune?
This is exciting!

I see Bidder 1 finally got outbid.
I agree with Tookie that Pete should be the person to buy these. I'd like to see them stay with Mirage.
Well you know he can afford it...its just a matter of if he really wants to give all that $$$ to Eastman...

Jimmony Cricket!! Before this the highest I've seen a TMNT item go for on ebay (the 1st issue) is $2000!! :o
It's currently at $250,099.00

Holy sh*t!!! God I wish I had millions of dollars to blow on that. $200,000 is still less than it should be.

I wonder if the winning bidder can give me some rent money.
Still sitting at $250,099. Honestly, this is insane. Either this person is going to live in poverty for the rest of their lives, or they are stinkin' rich.
Or it's just Laird teasing the fans :P

I see Metropolis Comics has listed some preliminary art for #1 at their ebay store. They've got the two-page spread from the beginning of the issue and also page 18, with the big panels of all four turtles and splinter. My dang computer won't let me copy the address right now but if you're interested just search for items listed by user metropoliscomics. The opening bid on each is $100, and they are signed by Kevin Eastman.
