Do you think it's a good idea? I've had it brewing in my head for months now. I see plenty of other fandoms with their own podcasts-- why not us? I believe we have a wealth of content to fill up at least 15 minutes a week (heck, it doesn't even have to be weekly truthfully), plus it may garner some new fans of the franchise now that the movie's practically here. In fact, we probably should've had something like this months ago to promote the movie...

Anyway, what do you think? Should we fans get together and do this, or should I let this little idea go the way of the dodo?

UPDATE!

If you can do it with the quality of Daizenshuu EX (http://www.daizex.com)'s podcasts I'd love to see it happen.

Aelia

I think it's an awesome idea! I'd love to help in any way I can. For podcasts the recommended type of microphone is usually a USB condenser mic, and those can be very expensive. I have one myself (I use it for my voice acting.) and it was one of the best purchases I've ever made. A friend of mine has one for podcasting his movie reviews. Do you have one or at least know and friend who has one?

Kunoichi_Haruko
03-17-2007, 01:18 PM
No I don't have one of those mics, all I've got is Garageband and a dream. Where can I purchase one of these? And thanks for offering your help-- I'm gonna need it! I've never tried to do a project of this magnitude before, and I don't want something this potentially awesome to crash & burn simply because I don't know what the heck I'm doing... :P

Aelia
03-17-2007, 01:33 PM
Well, I bought this microphone:
http://www.idjnow.com/StoreModules/ProductDetails.aspx/PID=CO1U--BranchID=--DepartmentID=--SubDeptID=--CategoryID=--DeID=0

IDJNOW is pretty reliable. I got my mic in about a week.

But as for the rest of the podcast. I suppose the best way to learn more about putting together a podcast is to listen to other podcasts and take notes on what content makes them worth listening to. There are tutorials online, but as of yet I can't link them to you (I can't remember the URL.) I think if you're successful it you could make it a weekly podcast, and special guests would be awesome.

Kunoichi_Haruko
03-17-2007, 01:50 PM
Well, I've got a few ideas in terms of content:

Comicbook analysis
character analysis
game reviews
videogame cheats
fan contests (varied)
movie reviews
latest rumors/ speculation
listener questions/feedback

in the (distant) future, I'd also love to do interviews with those who work on the current comics (those "special guests" you mentioned, Aelia) :)

and by no means do I want to take this thing on solo. It's definitely going to require collaboration, mainly because even though I'm a fan, I'm not nearly as knowledgeable about the franchise as some people on this board, so I'm thinking I'll need a panel.

I'm basically ripping a page from Mugglecast... and every other decent podcast I've heard. ;)

Aelia
03-17-2007, 02:08 PM
Awesome! There are alot of people who would LOVE to be on the panel (I know I'd love to be on it.) and there are many who would be be very qualified to do it. I'd suggest a team of at least five people, and backup panelists in case one of them gets sick or has other things going on. I think holding polls, especially on deciding the topic of the Fan Contest would be useful.

Kunoichi_Haruko
03-17-2007, 02:22 PM
Well, congratulations, Aelia-- I do believe you'll be my first panelist! :tparty:

Yes! Thank you! I'm not sure how good I'll be at the comic book analysis though, I've never been able to go and buy the the TMNT comic books because there isn't anywhere to buy them in Wilmington(This town sucks.) Everything else I've got covered, especially with movie reviews and game reviews.

Yo. If you have the hosting space and know how to do it, make sure that the podcast can be subscribed to on iTunes. I'm a lot more likely to listen to a podcast if I can just turn on iTunes and hit "update" instead of having to go to a website and chase down the latest update.

Kunoichi_Haruko
03-17-2007, 05:50 PM
Yo. Will do, Goonga. I've yet to subscribe to a podcast that I didn't find on iTunes.

Man, this podcast thing is going to take a minute. There's a lot more to it than I thought. It's still relatively simple, but it's just a matter of finding a place to host this. Just watch this space people, until I get a handle on what I'm doing. :)

And you're right, Johnny. This probably should've been launched at least a year ago. But hey, I wasn't even here a year ago, so... :ohwell:

Well I just bought the TMNT Podcast domain name (www.tmntpodcast.com) from GoDaddy, but we could always name it something else...

There's nothing there, of course, so you don't have to go to the site yet.

It's a good name for a domain but it's too bland for the actual podcast name.

The Shellcast?
The Turtlecast?
Green Hour?
The "Goongasnootch is Cool" Show?

...

Shellshow?

Aelia
03-17-2007, 10:06 PM
I like The Shellcast best...I don't know why. And save the "Goongasnootch is cool" show for your own podcast, Goongasnootch! Sheesh! We'll make it a panel discussion.

On another note, now that we have a domain. Let's think about how the show'll be arranged.

I'd love to contribute to the show, specifically in the video game section. I am a huge video game buff, especially when it comes to TMNT. I'd be happy to review classic games (I have all of them) and current games as well. I have a mic so recording shouldn't be a problem. Let me know if you guys are interested.

Does that domain come with hosting? If not, I would be willing to host it for free. I can also help with setting up the site (such as installing any necessary software for hosting the podcast).

there isn't anywhere to buy them in Wilmington(This town sucks.)

Willmington sucks? try Lexington(BBQ? :dead:lol) and we had 1 store here, he closed, 3 years ago, i gotta got winston just to get mine. lol.

Anyway lol. This sounds like an interesting idea ya've got. I'd deffinately tune in(listen, whatever lol). I'd offer to help with something, but i dont think i'd be much helpful at anything, since i dont know exactly all that much about podcasts.

My own panel? I have a hard enough time watching my language on here where I can think about what I'm about to type. Either we'll need to do some somewhat heavy audio editing in post-porduction or we'll need to do retakes as kids might be listening.

EDIT: Okay, so I'm not quite like the Angry Video Game Nerd but I definately wouldn't make it on screen in a PG movie with my mouth running the way it normally does.

Now what the show is about.....
What we need is the TMNT theme song.I always like hearing that.
and for episodes. You review TMNT episodes, games, movies, toys,
and rumors and screats about upcoming TMNT stuff.
I can be your man for that.

Good luck to anyone who takes this project on; I think it's a great idea!

Just know that podcasting WILL suck the life out of you. I run a podcast that I don't even create the content for (link is in my sig), I just edit and post the audio, and it STILL takes up a ton of time.

I'm 20 years old now, been a TMNT fan since I was like 2 or 3 years old. I would be glad to help out in anyway possible.

We could do a TMNT newsletter if needed. Private message me if you want me to help. Name is Jared by the way.

I got to see TMNT 2 and 3 in theatres.

I got a name for it, The TURTLECOM CAST!

Would you? ::hugs:: Thank you, Krang-- I appreciate that very much (honestly, I was hoping you might). :)

Okay, I'm going to update my 1st post to list all potential titles, so keep them coming... When we get enough, I'll make another poll.

And Rose, could you give me some tips on the whole "posting & editing" thing, since I'll probably end up doing just that (I don't see myself as much of talker, but I'll give it a shot to get this thing going). How long long does that usually take you?

TMNT OTAKU PODCAST

UPDATE!

Now Accepting Potential Titles:
1. The Shellcast
2. The Turtlecast
3. Green Hour
4. Shellshow
5. Turtlecom Cast

I think Turtlecomm has 2 "M"s. And if we drop "cast" from the fifth title I think that woul be awesome. Maybe close to perfect.

Just "The Turtlecomm." No need for some form of "podcast" anywhere in that kind of title.

Now about how it will work.

Kendamu
03-18-2007, 09:24 PM
Darkness,

Well, I pointed out http://www.daizex.com/general/podcast/index.shtml before as a good example of a podcast. It's got different tunes from various Dragonball soundtracks for the opening, different segments, and a different tune each week for the closing.

They have standard segments such as current news related to Dragonball, a specified topic of discussion each week which takes up the bulk of the podcast (such as reviews or popular topics of discussion on their forum), bits of off-topic humor related to the lives of the people running the podcast, guest panelists who have contributed to the Dragonball online community in a large way, as well as an "A through Z" kind of segment where each week one of the people running it takes a letter of the alphabet (in order of course) to choose a word in relation to Dragonball to discuss for a moment.

Other times I've seen "top 10" segments, looks into the past of the online Dragonball community, or just looks back into the past in general. It's also typical of them to provide linkson the podcast webpage in relation to the things they're talking about.

And the biggest thing is that I can subscribe to them on iTunes. It makes things really easy in terms of getting ahold of each podcast episode.

I suggest that anybody who is going to seriously work on this podcast and is currently saying "so, uh, what now?" to take about an hour or so out of their time to look at a DaizEX podcast

awesome idea! video podcast!!

Kendamu
03-22-2007, 04:11 PM
Wait. Video? I wonder how that can be made exciting. A bunch of people sitting in a house talking just doesn't seem to do it for me.

Aelia
03-25-2007, 09:54 PM
That and I don't think we can be in same room together. Seeing as how we all live like...thousands of miles away from eachother. A video podcast would be out of the question.

Kunoichi_Haruko
03-26-2007, 05:01 AM
Yeah when I thought this one up, I had no intention of making it a video podcast, based on the reasons already given (plus I'm a tad camera shy :goof: ). And don't worry guys, I haven't forgotten this thread. I'm currently reading "Podcasting for Dummies". I do know that we'll probably use Skype as a way of communicating with each other. It's (supposedly) free, so I'm looking into that right now...

Aelia

Cool, I have Skype. I don't know exactly how to record conversations on Skype but I believe it requires two computers. Of course, I have been wrong before.

Hm, a TMNT Podcast, you say? I have a microphone sitting next to me now that is begging for use, so I might be able to help in some way or another. Hopefully when I get time, I might be able to help out. I don't want to miss out on an oppertunity to help out with something like this

I just got a mic last weekend. I wanted to get a Don cuz he's my favorite, but the mic was more practical. Don would be proud of such reasoning... So, I'm just waiting to see how I'll be able to mount it. The speakers hanging on the sides of my monitor make things difficult. :ohwell:

Yay there's still interest! I just got my mic this weekend (I was amusing myself just recording random things all Saturday), so we're that much closer to getting it off the ground. I'm out of school now so I can finally devote some real attention to this. Honestly, I'm hoping to get something launched by June....

Sorry if there is already another thread on this and I'm bumping needlessly...
But yeah, a turtles podcast would be awesome! I don't think you'd need worry about lack of material, considering all the different areas the fandom covers. You can talk comics, games, cartoons, movies, toys, old-school, new gen, even that cheesy Coming Out Of Their Shells tour if needs be...
Not to mention there are the likes of Masterscast, dedicated to He-man and Thundercast, which seem to have less to work with but they manage to bring the podcasts out anyway.
I also listen to the likes of Mugglecast, Pottercast etc, and they have a good formula of different segments and an obvious love for what they're talking about.
I think this could be done well with a tmnt podcast, and I would be a definite subscriber! I hope the idea hasn't been completely abandoned!

Time Mistress
02-23-2009, 11:57 AM
A podcast would be awesome! I'd say go for an audio podcast and go through itunes so people can subscribe to it easily.

If your looking for some models or inspration, this is one of my favorite podcasts:

http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/wtf-tfw-transformers-podcast/

The lastest supplemental (Kickback spoils your mom) answers some listener questions about how they got their podcast up and running and I'm sure if you were to engage them in dialogue on the message board or PM them about how to set up a podcast they could give you a few pointers. Just tell them Fairlady Z sent ya. :D

I voted yes. I am a new user and only found the site through a random google search for old tmnt adventures tapes. A podcast would bring a great number of people in.
