View Full Version : Is Leo Dutch?

I wonder why Leo has this slight accent in the new show.
I have a theory.
Since Mike Sinterniklaas (who's originally Dutch) voices him - and he's got this slight Dutch accent - could it mean Leo spent some time training in the Netherlands or some former Dutch colony before? We all know he did those little trips to Japan or South America in different universes, so why not Europe?
Or maybe he's a Dutch turtle himself?
Thoughts?
Hm, interesting theroy there, Bull. I'd say "most likely", but then again I'm a prime example that you don't have to go to another country to have an accent. Half the people I talk to think I come from New York or somewhere like that in America, yet I have not set foot of the main land of Australia. It could be the same with Leo.
As for the Dutch turtle theroy, again it is possible. Each turtle posses a different skin tone, and this might reflect the possibility they are from different countries. Then again, why the hell would a pet shop import turtles from around the globe when they can easily scoop some up (or breed them) in New York?
So...yeah, I'm going with the "it's natural" statement. Either that or Leo watches a tad too much Dutch TV :P

I just can't see that being true.

Do they have martial arts in the Netherlands?
Hell, turtles for that matter?

Yes Michael Sinterniklaas is Dutch. But all the turtles are Red Eared Sliders (this has been proven by what Donatello states in an issue of the comic). And I do know there are sliders in the Netherlands. So who knows.

I don't think Sinterniklaas has a Dutch accent in the least (Trust me, English with a Dutch accent sounds a lot worse), and regardless I don't see how the voice of an actor portaying one incarnation of a character has any effect on his origins. So no, I see absolutely no grounds for Leo being Dutch.
I'm guessing this isn't a serious thread? :ohwell:

Some people have noticed a slight accent. He came to America when he was about 10 so his accent has faded a bit over the years.

Indeed. :)
Aw, don't say that guys. I think it's kinda cool. I mean, Raph has a Brooklyn accent, so there is no harm in musing if other characters have accents. All in harmless fun :)

Maybe he didn't train martial arts there, only contacted Master Yoshi's long lost relatives. You know, Splinter could have ordered that.

It's not any less serious than those threads about Karai being Chinese or Max Winters being British (basing on their accents only) in the new movie section.

Thanks God there are still people here who can recognise a joke when they see one.
That was a smart riposte, well done :)
Stupid thread.

He should have done the Dutch dub on Jetix Netherlands.. The Dutch dub wasn't actualy that bad, but ofcourse it would have been better with Sinterniklaas.
The only role of Michael Sinterniklaas I have heard is "Guy Shishio" in "GaoGaiGar: The King of Braves" and I liked his voice acting.
Do they have martial arts in the Netherlands?
There are martial arts schools in The Netherlands... In fact, there are some Dutch Olympic Judo champions.
