Check out the Blast from the Past #67 under Woo Hoo #3. Laird says that they have made sculpts of the TMNT and Splinter for the live action movie on the Hallmark Channel!!

I wasn't even aware that this was confirmed. This is great news indeed.

Most of you probably know where to go to get to the "Blasts" but here:

Eeesh....anyone else become less than excited when they hear the words TMNT and Hallmark together?

Why oh why did that cgi film have to be canned...and will Jim Henson Creature shop even be involved with this 'made for cable special'? Hopefully a theatrical film proper will be in production before too long...though I CANNOT see a TMNT film done without the Jim Henson Creature Shop.

Actually... I'm quite excited about this Hallmark mini-series. I think they can pull it off. No, I'm not too thrilled that Hallmark is producing TMNT, but I'm not gonna criticize it until I start seeing sneak peeks (like the toon).

Why is it bad that Hallmark is doing the miniseries? I don't know anything about the company.

Why is it bad that Hallmark is doing the miniseries?

Hallmark is mainly a politically-correct-family-oriented channel. Lots of warm-fuzzy-feeling tv shows and movies. I don't see how the Turtles can even fit into there, although Hallmark does air Hawaii Five-O. That sort of surprises me.

I'm going to assume that if the Turtles air on Hallmark, it won't be "ninja kick butt action". More like "Leonardo, struggling with mixed feelings about his very existance, takes a enlightening journey as advised by his spiritual teacher, Splinter, and discovers the strength within himself to accept his physical beauty even though he may be viewed as grotesque by the rest of the human race."

Hallmark also did the recent Dinotopia Mega series. No comment on it though since none of the stories were based on the book. You do see some people get eaten by Dinos though. Anyway back to the topic. Why is this some made for TV movie? I thought John Woo signed up to do a CG movie? I know the CG TV SHOW was canned for a regular hand drawn show, but did the movie get cancelled as well? THAT WOULD SUCK!!!! I WANT THE 4th MOVIE!!

Actually, John wo was never goint to do it. It was misunderstood, they had a contract with Digital Rim(John wo is one of the main partners of the compnay) So some people tough that He was going to direct it, that's how the rumors got started. But unafortunately, the contract didn't work out in the end, and the CGI movie was scrapped. So did the CGI tv series.

At first it was said that the CGI on hallmark would combine CGI and Live action, and that Steve Barron would direct[ :D ] it, But im not sure if that is true anymore.

Is the hall mark really a channel that won't allow violent shows?

i have no real knowledge or opinion about hallmark, but due to peter laird's involvement in this next turtle era everything is looking for the better, the new toon already seems better than the old one, and i don't think laird would do a non-action tmnt mini-series

Karpo_007
01-24-2003, 10:48 AM
Well I think he is ready to make compromises to get TMNT in to air. But Im sure he wont let anything like Next mutation happen ever again.

01-24-2003, 03:38 PM
Well they might Have Steve Barron directing it, That was said over a year ago, But then it was official. If he will do it, Im sure It can't be really bad. Is that hallmark channel really that bad? isn't there any action shows on the network?

lhb412
01-24-2003, 05:54 PM
I think they show the original He-Man and the Master of the Universe, and as TerranigmaFreak said earlier they did the Dinotopia series which was not that great story wise but had alot of action and great special effects.

Karpo_007
01-24-2003, 05:58 PM
So It is possible that the New TMNT miniseries will be good. Especially if Steve Barron is directing.

lhb412
01-24-2003, 06:10 PM
Now we go on to discuss the possibilities of the film! If Steve Barron is directing, do you think he'll start from the begining with the origin (that would be cool), continue from the forth film (hope not), or (this is my favorite of the three posibilities) continue from HIS Turtle movie, forgetting 2&3.

Please, please let it be him directing! The first Ninja Turtle film is one of the best movies ever!

Karpo_007
01-24-2003, 06:13 PM
I guess it will be a completely new story. This is what reads in IGN:

Director Steve Barron told THR, "The Ninja Turtles miniseries that Hallmark and I are developing will be a darker, more streetwise view of the characters. Taking its tone from the original comics, it will be an atmospheric and spectacular reinvention of the franchise using today's CGI technology to leap into the 21st century."

Wait up guys. I may stand alone here, but I have seen one or two good Hallmark series, both involving Murder and viloence. Even Alice in Wonderland (which I didn't like) was pretty dark. They did Arabian Nights with all it's betrayal and murderous plots, and while their effects aren't up to Hollywood standards, they still look great for TV. I'll be open to it, especially with Steve Barron involved.

Prowl
01-24-2003, 06:43 PM
LOL, I did a search for Steve Barron on IMDB, and as it turned out, he did work on the Arabian Nights series, and I liked the way that one turned out.

Karpo_007
01-24-2003, 06:48 PM
You know that Steve Baroon directed the only good TMNT movie to date right? Well That news is over a year old, but if it is true, Im sure it will be good, no matter what network.

Oh yeah, I'd say the first TMNT film is one of my favorite top 3 films of all time.(I dont even own the horrific TMNT 2, 3, or TNM movie) To get the original director back would be too cool!

Reznorite420

TMNT 1 = Best of all

TMNT 2 = Not too bad, but not too good either

TMNT 3 = I should kill myself for mentioning it!

Jephael
01-24-2003, 07:02 PM
I can see them disreguarding the third one, but I liked how the second one revealed the origin of the ooze. Maybe they'll just disreguard the whole Vanilla Ice fiasco.

Karpo_007
01-24-2003, 07:06 PM
It will probably be a completely new start. There would be no point in continuing the the first movies.

Jephael
01-24-2003, 07:10 PM
Yeah, I know they will. It's just like how they're doing the new animated series.

The thing is though, people seem to have this odd knack for calling the next motion picture TMNT 4, which would obviously make it look like the next in the original series of movies

Karpo_007
01-24-2003, 07:14 PM
That is true.. It will probably be called a fourth movie.

Jephael
01-24-2003, 07:17 PM
I don't see why they can't just consider calling it a remake.

Karpo_007
01-24-2003, 07:18 PM
Maybe it has a suntitle of some sort. That would make things easier..

Machias Banshee
01-24-2003, 07:18 PM
Heh, could be really bad and be a prequel, like Ninja Turtles: before the ooze....

Brodie
01-24-2003, 08:53 PM
If they did the prequel, it would be overly boring. Considering in TMNT 1, Leo talks to Splinter and says they won their first battle. Meaning they didn't do crap before that tiff with the dudes opressing April.

Hallmark probably won't screw up....Their channel plays Alf, and who doesn't like a hairy puppet that talks about eating "Cats" all the time. It's funny because Hallmark didn't notice the underlying joke behind Alf always wanting to eat "Cats". Maybe they did notice, then I'f have a lot of faith in Hallmark.

As long as the turtles don't start babbling off ebonics, it should be good.

Yup, I knew he directed it, and at the time, I was saddened that he was out for the second and third.

That, JHC wasnt as involved, and they were filmed in the horrific early 90's...all ingredients for disaster!

But why was TMNT one so good? Filmed in 1989 with that cool director and the Jim Henson Company, featured a very dark and edgy style and feel and was before they politically corrected the series with TMNT 2.
I mean what kid at the time wouldnt wanna hang out in a massive arcade/foot clan dojo? Sure beats going to a horrible night club to see Vanilla Ice.

But yeah, a prequel would just suck. In my mind it would either be a whole new film series like Episode One(err, ok...NOT like the Star Wars Episodes)
or the real TMNT 2;)

Reznorite420
01-25-2003, 10:17 AM

I don't think he was involved at all in TMNT 2 or 3.

Prowl
01-25-2003, 12:12 PM
No he wasn't. There were some animosities between he and the studio, but I'm not sure what it was or why. Movie news wasn't as easily available as it is now.

lhb412
01-25-2003, 07:31 PM
They probably didn't like all the violence in TMNT 1, The first movie was an independant film, was it not?

Oh yeah! It was handled in an indie film style...thats why it was so cool! Well the Jim Henson Company was not really involved cept for a few things here and there with TMNT 2. And then I dont think at all with TMNT 3.

Reznorite420
01-26-2003, 03:58 PM
If JHC wasn't involved at all, how were the Turtle costumes able to be used?

Karpo_007
01-26-2003, 04:01 PM
Someone else made them.

Jephael
01-26-2003, 04:03 PM
Jim Henson did help design the turtle costumes for the first film, as did his company for the second film when he died.

Karpo_007
01-26-2003, 04:18 PM
I tought they were made by diffrent company... If the company was same, why are the second movie ones so inferior?

Jephael
01-26-2003, 04:26 PM
I thought the second movie costumes were perfect, even if the plot sucked.

Karpo_007
01-26-2003, 04:28 PM
The suits looked ugly, with all those spots in them... I didn't like them at all.

Jephael
01-26-2003, 04:39 PM
I barely noticed them in the second movie, they looked more like freckles. In the third movie though, it looked like they had liver spots.

Karpo_007
01-26-2003, 04:45 PM
Yes they were much worse in 3.

Prowl
01-26-2003, 10:23 PM
You can see technical differences between the first and second movie and the third one. Such as the lip movement in the first and second movie containing some good lip and eye movement, and the third one coming off as being very mechanical. The differences in the look were probably a choice for the sake of making the turtles less murky and more like their cartoon counterparts.

beaker
01-26-2003, 11:28 PM
Jim Henson did help design the turtle costumes for the first film, as did his company for the second film when he died.

Yeah the Jim Henson Company in 1989 was very involved with the first TMNT, from the costumes to the animatronics to even the puppetry(KEvin clash, the performer behind Elmo and Clifford puppeteered Splinter)

Obviously JHC's presence was sorely missing from TMNT 2...though I think good writing was the main thing missing from TMNT 2(and even more so in TMNT 3) Bottom line, in my book TMNT 2 and 3 are a sheer abomination.
(both times I cam eout of the theatre beyond disappointed)

Prowl
01-26-2003, 11:45 PM
DEARGOD!!! I just watched turtles 1 and 3. The difference is sickening. Yes, I own Turtles three because I like the fighting (A little darker than 2, and the sound effects are a little deeper), but I could not stomach the animatronics in their mouths, not to mention Leo looking like a complete idot with his expressions. You can see, without question, the amount of attention Henson's shop put into the first movie.
