Opinons on the Voice Acting

What did you think of the voice acting in this film? How did it compare with the voice acting in previous incarinations of TMNT (80s cartoon, 2003 cartoon, etc)?

I liked everyone's voice acting... Splinter did sound drunk tho.:lol:

I disagree with the assessment of Splinter, but I think the voices made the movie-- especially Leo's and Raph's, because though that rooftop fight was visually stunning, the power behind the VAS' work really turned it into something real!

I loved everyone, especially Raph's voice.

But I agree with whoever said Splinter sounded drunk, and some people in the movie said the same thing. No offense and disrespect to Mako.

I had no problem with Mako, I really loved the feeling he put into the role.

That said, the dudes in my sig are now my favorite TMNT voice cast. They truly captured the true personalities of the turtles the way no one else has.

The rest of the cast was pretty good too. Evans made a hell of a Casey.

Mako sounded like Mako. So, I mean, yeah, he sounded rhaspy and runk and occassionally silly...but that's MAKO. And I love Mako's voice, so I thoroughly enjoyed his work in the movie. I think my favorite part was the breakfast bit. He comes out singing that Japanese song to himself then compliments the Turtles on getting along, tells them to eat a healthy breakfast, sits down to watch his "stories" and then sees the news and screams "BOOOOOYYYYSS!!!"

One of my favorite bits in the movie.


Jim Cummings, Billy West and Kevin Michael Richardson almost took me out of the experience, though. Don't get me wrong, I love those guys, they're some of my favorite cartoon voice actors. But whenever I hear their voices, especially Cummings', all I can think about is their previous work in some goofier cartoons. Kinda like at the end of Spawn when Malbolgia was voiced by Frank Welker and he sounded IDENTICAL to Dr. Claw.

Ziyi Zhang's Chinese accent bugged me a tiny bit, msotly because she spooookee soooo slooowwwllyyyyy stressssiiinngg eeevverryyy sylllaaaabbeeellllll....

But really, my qualms with the voice acting were few and far between. And where it really counted, the Turtles and Splinter, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Having KMR, Jim Cummings, John DiMaggio, Billy West, Tara Strong, Grey DeLisle, and the rest of them in there was a dream come true. I'm so glad this movie featured some of the most talented vas in the business, rather than some B-list celebs.

Yeah, he's Mako for crying out loud! He's an expert. He really did make Splinter sound old, tired, and aware of his role as their sensei.

As for the voice acting: top notch. Maybe not better than serious and astonishing animated series's such as Gargoyles or Batman TAS but it was top notch. I could even say it bests the new series voice acting although it rocks and rivals the old series's voice acting.

I definitely agree -- the voice acting was spot-on, especially Raphael. I thought it sounded different enough to be unique among the brothers, but somehow familiar in respect to the character's previous iterations. Leo and Don both enjoyed great voice over work as well, and I'd probably put Mikey last in respect to the Turtles.

Mako's voice was, err, unusual at first...It definitely took a little getting used to, but after the first few scenes it seemed natural.

And as for Casey? Spot-on again. A dead ringer for Elias Koteas!

I really miss the old cast. Next movie should be Corey Feldman's return as Donatello! No more My Cousin Vinny cast..

It was pretty good. I don't see why they didn't use the original movie.. Corey Feldman IS Donatello.. I just don't like the idea of the guy from My Cousin Vinney as Donatello, my favorite character.

I thought Laurence Fishbourne was a great narrator. His presence added that much more dignity to the whole proceedings, don't you think?

No I don't it really brought any "Extra" dignity to the movie, he's never done a movie that made me thought he was a great actor or anything. Something just didn't seem right when he was narrarating..

the matrix trilogy was awful. The first one was a good movie but the sequels bogged down the name and tainted it forever.. I don't like when they tack on big names just so people recognize them. People are going to see Ninja Turtles, not "larry fishbourne narrrates a movie"..

Just like how people want matt damon to play captain kirk so people come see the movie as if there was a legion of matt damon fans, I say GET PEOPLE WHO FIT THE PART WELL, NOT THEIR NAMES

I loved the VAs. SMG as April didn't really jump out at me as being awesome, but she wasn't painfully bad either. I don't know/care who this Kevin Smith guy is, but he did all right in his "cameo" role.

And Don... sounded like Don! And even better, acted like Don! No more "Slightly Nerdier Mikey Clone"! huzzah! I think the 2k3 Don is still my favorite, but this guy was good, too.

And I'm used to Mako's voice, so hearing him as Splinter made me smile. I can agree that he sounded a little drunk at times, and think that it would have looked more natural if his lipsync had matched better. But his performance in the breakfast scene is one of the highlights of the movie. "...BOYS!" :tlol:

And I agree that Mako should have led the Turtles in front of the credits. But I guess that's Hollywood.

Donatello is supposed to be soft spoken and quiet. His character is that. Corey Feldman was only in it because he was a bigger 'star' back then. He lent nothing to Donatello. Donatello does not 'nyuck nyuck'. Feldman is... as themanthatwouldberaphael so eloquently put it... Feldman. That's all. He just plays himself, and anyone who knows Donatello would know that he is NOT Corey Feldman.

And Don... sounded like Don! And even better, acted like Don! No more "Slightly Nerdier Mikey Clone"! huzzah! I think the 2k3 Don is still my favorite, but this guy was good, too.

I loved the rest, really. Mako did take me a moment to get used to. And it took a bit for me to stop thinking of Daphne when Gellar spoke... (Though, sorry guys, 2K3 cast gets me vote as favorite voices of all time) This cast is in close second for me. And I'm realllly tough on VA's. Well done. I highly approve.

You know what is interesting, Jim Cummings, who did some voices in the 80s TMNT cartoon (Leatherhead, for example) did some of the additional voices in this film.

A lot of talented artists lended their voices for this production, including Billy West ("Fry" from Futurama) and Phil Lamarr (whom I remember best from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty as "Vamp.") Also, was Quinton Flynn a part of the cast? I only saw him in the "Special Thanks" section of the closing credits.

I hated those long pauses between the name talents. I was just sitting there waiting for them to get to the real stars.

The voice acting was amazing just like I was expecting it to. Every one gave a great performence.

But the one I was most drawn in by was Splinter and Karai, Splinter just had so much emotional depth to his voice that if this was just a radio broad cast I would have felt the same way durning those scenes no matter what.

Karai.....I'm not sure why I liked Ziyi Zhang on this? It just really stuck with me after the movie was done.

So Lamarr was in the film also? Huh usually you can pick that guys voice out pretty easily (also big fan of his after his work on MGS2)
