TMNT Graphic Novels I-IV (from 1980's) - What are they worth?

I have the opportunity to buy Graphic Novel Collections I-IV from a seller for $65 shipped. He based his price on this auction:

I was wondering if this was a good price for these 4 comic book collections? He says they are in mint condition and provided me with pictures to prove it. Just wanted to consult the experts before I plunked down $65 to make sure I wasn't getting ripped off.

I got those books off ebay for around $10 each, condition probably not as good as what you are looking at, but they aren't terrible either. I see them on ebay (individually and as sets) quite often. Just for reference.

So should I pass on this offer because it is too much? Since they are bundled together, the buyer is really buying for convienience.

Yea, hes definalty shooting for cinvienence but its not exactly a bad deal either, esp. if they are in great condition...it you go the individual route on ebay, you can easily expect to pay around $10 PLUS about $5 or so for shipping for each book...so if you did that four times, you're obvioulsy going pay roughly $60 that way, which is fnot ar off from where you're starting...Now, on ebay, it is definately possible to get better deals but you just have to value how bad you really want them...if yoiu're willing to wait, you might find better deals- they are on ebay ALL THE TIME, individually and in lots...they are great books IMO...

So my final thoughts: if you plan on getting all 4, this isnt a bad deal...if you dont mind getting them one by one (or in smaller lots- sometimes I'll see 2 or 3 of them together...), then you may be better off getting them like that...when going that route though, I wouldnt be surprised if the total you pay over time is very close to $65...

Yes, I will keep everyone updated. I will be purchasing the set. I really appreciate everyone's efforts to help me out here. I will post detailed pics as soon as I receive the graphic novels.

I have no idea what they're worth, but I have vol 4 and it's friggina awesome! I'd love to get the other ones at some point.

I wouldnt really say its that great of a deal, cause i got mine for roughly 8 bucks each and their in pretty good condition, excluding #4 that i got at a yard sale for a buck(has a black marker line down the front).

But as far as value? i'd say their each worth about $10, maybe $12.

Well thats what Im saying...its possible to get a better deal but its not a terrible deal...it would just take some searching...but it could be worse...the auction he posted inthe 1st thread showed the set going for $66..but just yesterday this auction ended for $140!!

Depends on which version of it it is (there are three different ones).

I believe the hardcover is on eBay right now for a starting price of $275. The book originally sold for $100 and is quite rare, so it might be worth that much. All it takes is for one person to decide it's worth that much to them. But if the auction had started lower I could see bids reaching $200 or more. I bought this book for about $130 on eBay maybe five or so years ago.

The softcover version recently sold on eBay for $91 here (http://cgi.ebay.com/TMNT-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-mirage-1-11-collected_W0QQitemZ200091052578QQcategoryZ45451QQs sPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) and $130 here (http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles-Collected-Book-1-1st_W0QQitemZ270100073146QQcategoryZ77QQssPageName ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). I bought this on eBay five or so years ago for maybe $35 - I think someone found a stash of them in a warehouse somewhere, because there were a bunch up for sale for a while.

The most common version, which is also softcover, is also currently on eBay and is at $81 (here (http://cgi.ebay.com/Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles-Mirage-Volume-540-pages_W0QQitemZ160099137140QQcategoryZ35776QQssPag eNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)). This one I bought directly from Mirage in the mid-90s for cover price.

Keep in mind that TMNT prices are going to be slightly inflated right now because of the movie.

Those you posted are high because they are the first round repints and are still in black and white. the ones in the first post of this thread i believe are the 2nd round of reprinting and were reprinted in color.

And the reason that first one you posted is $275, is cause its signed by Laird and Eastman. Plus since its limited and numbered.

I own first editions of all four of those. Not in mint, and a little worse off then in the auction, but no major bends or folds.

I got a decent copy at Powl's Books for about 10 bucks. The condition isn't nearly good enough to sell to anyone but I wouldn't sell it anyway.
