Finnally, after three seasons of the old toon in the fourth season Raphael finnally gets a few episodes dedicated to him where the focus is on him. Seasons one through three had a few episodes that centered on Michaelangelo, Donatello, and Leonardo...but not Raphael :( .

But in season four the under used sarcastic smart-ass turtle gets three episodes dedicated to him. He still gets kind of gyped though  up above is a list of all the episodes that where dedicated to him. Which episode did you like the most and why you like it?

Drive 'Em Wild:
I liked the cabby one the best, I think. For some reason, I wasn't a fan of the laughing one or the Mona Lisa one but the cabby one was just a classic episode for me.

Meets his Match. I liked Mona Lisa. I can't remember Drives'em Wild. And Knocks'em Dead seems like a plot better suited to Mikey. Raph's supposed to be the angry one, not the funny one.

guh...please keep in mid that this a diffrent version of Raphael from a diffrent medium. Try to appriciate him on his own terms. He wasn't ment to be the angry one in this medium.

I gonna go with Rapahel Drives 'em Wild even though I love the Mona Lisa episode I just this episde stood out for me. I just loved Oscar and his charactersation. It was just a fun filled episodes with a rather neet car chase sequence which isn't shown to much in this series and was pretty decent by old toon terms.

Love the ep with Mona Lisa although her explanation for her mutation is quite silly.

What other eps does she appear in?

None, that's her only episode.

The Mona Lisa one was one of my favorites. Really she was so adorable. ;_(\ I wish they could have kept using her throughout the series. What was her mutation story, again? I'm blanking on it for some reason.

Raph in the original cartoon was worlds different from the comic. I find I like the comic version more but 'toon Raph deserves some love too. ;D

She was working in a chem lab on a pirate submarine and when she attemped to sabatoge the evil scienctist's things, a pipe burst all over her. When she woke up she was a mutant.

I wish she would have been in more episodes. At the end of Raph meets his match, she and April show up at the lair. Then for some reason, we never hear from her again. Bummer.

(hope it's ok to post that, it's only part of the episode...)

And Mona Lisa's little voice actress is Pat Musick, mother to Mae Whitman who does Katara's voice in Avatar. :D

Yeah, but it managed to be silly without being patronising. I find a lot of the OT eps to be quite witty, which is saying something 'cause I can be horribly judgemental when it comes to kids animation! XD

You know, I've been trying to think of why the old toon reached out to me like no other tv show ever did and managed to be so special like no other show ever was. I think you just spelled it out for me, or at least one reason anyway.

True, Ninja Sage. And I do try. I'm sorry if my comment was inapropriate.

Man this thread makes we want to get the season 4 DVD so I can watch these eps again.

I really liked Mona Lisa. i thought her characterastions was handled quit well. The title says that Raphael meets his match, but they don't make Mona Lisa a female version of Raphael and instead gave her, her own personality. Which I was for. I always hated when I was a kid when they would introduce a love interest for a main character and make the love/interest almost exactly like main characters personality. ugh :dead:

I'm glad they at least gave Mona Lisa her own personality, i thought the two played well off each other. I wish they had brought her back for more episodes and built on that. Was it ever revealed in this episode on how exactly Mona Lisa learned ninjitsu?

The failure to use Mona Lisa again has got to be the biggest incidence of a wasted character in the original TMNT cartoon. She had a lot of depth, and her interactions with Raphael were well-handled without things getting too soppy.

Raphael Meets His Match was not just my favourite of the three Raphael episodes in season 4, but also probably my favourite non-Shredder/Krang episode of season 4.

It's not fair to tease a teenager full of hormones with a hot lizzard and then never let him see her again. What were they thinking. That's just cruel.

You know it was really tough on this one for me.
I just watched Raphael meets his match lastnight and seriously I didn't remember it as well as I thought I did same goes for Raphael Knocks Em' Dead I really enjoyed that episode it was so differnt that the rest of the series. It was interesting to see Baxter's brother trown in there lol.
I've yet to Watch Raphael Drives Em' Wild but I was just reading the synopsis of this episode I completely forgot about this episode hahaha.
But in any Case I voted for Raphael Meets His Match I think it's the best one I really liked the characters in that episode. It's a shame we never got to see Mona Lisa again especially since she was hanging with the turtles at the end of the episode. Which I find really odd. There's so many unexplained things in the old toon.

I chose "Raphael Drives 'em Wild", mostly because it was one of the few episodes I remembered from seeing it as a kid that I was looking for when I was collecting the Nina Turtles.

Doesn't the cabby kind of act and sound like later incarnations of Raphael???

*bump*

Meets His Match. I remember that one and Knocks them Dead on a VHS together, and while I rewatched Meets His Match as a kid Knocks them Dead kinda bored me.

I really liked all three of them actually. I love OT Raph because whilst he is so very different from other versions of Raph, I think it could be argued that OT Raph is the core of the Raph we all know from all other versions: the real Raph; the person he would be if hadn't become so screwed up. He is still slightly angry, very impatient and prone to pessimism and very cynical, (so the essence of him is there) but he's sociable and friendly and not quite so tainted by bitterness and resentment. I like him. It makes him more interesting.

I believe you're right about that. Other universes tend to overdo it with his anger issues; here he's much more mild-mannered, and I believe it makes his character more realistic. And yes this is the core Raphael of any Raphael from any universe, what his true colors are.

wow, jenna. I think you just put the reasons I like old Raphael and put them into words for me. :o I've always argued that under all that sarcastic quips and jokey persona, that he is still cynical and agitated. Which is why he comes off as so sarcastic, and feels the need to poke fun at every thing (and every one) :P. Heck there is even an old toon episode dedicated to the fact the Raphael can be a cranky and not so easy to live with. I like Old Raphael. I just wish there had been more episodes dedicated to him than what there was.

I have to say Raphael Knocks em Dead. I would always come to your show Raph :) Raphael Drives em Wild was really really good too! I don't like Raphael meets his match much cause I don't like Mona Lisa.

I have watched the one where Raph becomes a stand-up comedian.

It actually works for him. Mikey's too much of a goofball and relies too much on the goofy slapstick. Raph would be much likelier to use the crude humor and sarcasm that distinguishes stand-up comedians. I have seen several stand-up comedians and they can get quite nasty.

I like Raphael meets his match. It was fun to see him go ga-ga over a girl :) Plus, what other ep has the pirate submarine  Too funny!
