Has anybody ever wondered what Rocksteady and BeBop would look like done in live action??? Well wonder no longer!! Well...about Rocksteady anyways.
In the latest ep of Doctor Who (which aired last night in the UK) the doctor and his new companion meet these well they're basically a race of alien bounty hunters...but not just ANY bounty hunters...they're Rhino's!! We only ever see one (the leader, the rest are wearing outfits that look like Raph's Nightwatcher outfit  ) but still. This folks is what Rocksteady (or even Genosuke) would look like in live action:
BTW...the Rhino race are known as the Judoon.

The Judoon captain wasn't CGI actually! Isn't it fun how detailed anamitronics has gotten since 1993? :D

I don't know about you but with costumes that looked like that I would have welcomed live action again. Even with limited movement. That things freaking awesome.

I just find it funny that he flames everyone for ripping on laird or the cgi movie but it's ok for him to make comments like that about other peoples hard work and I'm more than sure he couldn't do half as good.

Whoa...Whoa. Those are some pretty amazing pics. Bebop looks awesome, a tad bit creepy like something from Resident Evil but man would I love to see those two in a live action fighting our heroes in a half shell. Man that sounded really nerdy:P .

Dude! Don't you know??? Krang and the Utroms are based on Daleks! Outside of the robot body they live in they look like brain creatures.

Its too bad they never would have gotten the green light for a live action movie since I guess the budget would be too high, because thats really the magic of the original. Especially if you werent into the comics. If you were a 5-10 year old kid who only knew the original show and its insane plots, characters and settings and all of a sudden the TMNT are something real on screen in a real life environment, no cgi movie could compete with that.

... seriously, what's so hypocritical in TMTWBR's approach? He prefers CGI to live-action, that's all.

That he flames people when they diss something he likes and gets all defensive, and then he does it to other people.

Ah, that's the point. Didn't know that, as I don't follow the new movie section that strictly like the other sections.
Never would have thought anything about Rocksteady if I had seen the animatronics elsewhere first (since he only had one horn). He was never intended to look that menacing. But, thay Bebop will haunt my thoughts for weeks. Very creepy. I hope that's what the designer was going for. :)

I'm sorry, but I'm a little bit confused here... Why do people keep saying that they chose CGI because the budget was more limited? Wasn't the budget for the CGI film 30+ million? The budget for the original live action movie was only 13.5 million according to this (http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/series/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles.php). I think they decided to try CGI because it had never been done before, not because it was cheaper.

It's a lot cheaper to do CGI. Just think, no sets, they don't have to worry about weather conditions or rent out any special places. They don't have to spend insane amounts on all of the crazy costumes they'd have to make. Sure it's hard making the first models and stuff, but once you have the program made, and all of the models down, the rest is really easy.
So... if they decide to make a sequel *crosses fingers* they already have all of the programming and physics engines written so it'll be even cheaper :D.

Well, that's all well and good, but if that's the case then why did it cost them so much more to make the CGI movie? I'm not trying to be rude or anything. I just genuinely don't understand how people got this idea.

I didn't know the CGI movie cost so much to make :ohwell:
Maybe it was because.... um.. I honestly don't know.
MAYBE they LIED and said they need all that money so they could hoard it away for themselves!!

The first movie was a low-budget, independent film. By the time they got to #3 they were spending around $35 million... in 1993 money. Today it would cost way more AND you would still be seriously limited on what the Turtles could actually DO. There would be NO running rooftops or Mikey skateboarding or anything. With CGI they actually get to be ninjas and have facial expressions and eat pizza (and cereal) and fight monsters more menacing that an English guy dressed in ruffles on a horse.

I thought the obvious 2000's decision would be live action with CGI turtles, but as it turns out, I'm an idiot.
Also, the two sequels each increased in budget and decreased in profit. It would take at least 100mil to do a decent live action sequel, although I think the chances of potentially making more money would have increased if they had.

I don't this so. I think the detailed animatronics is what made the triology suck worse as it went on. The first movie, which was helped by the late great Jim Henson himself, had very limited animatronics. By the third movie, every little feature was so detailed it sucked. The heads were just horrible in TMNT3. I'm sorry, no matter what you say, you cannot change my mind on the "better" animatronics in the movies.
Staying on topic though, the Rocksteady and Bebop look good, but it'd be tough to make them buffoons like they were in the cartoon. They'd have to be bad asses in the live action stuff. I think...
Mr. Monroe even said that by today's standards (And following the trend of the other 3 movies) they would have lost money. You could probably type in "why cgi tmnt" and find that question asked to Mr. Monroe a lot. Inflation is the main reason it would cost more I would think. I remember Mr. Monroe saying somewhere that all the work was literally carried around on laptops. I think that would be a bit easier than the live action stuff lol. Don't get me wrong though, if they could have afforded it, I would love to see another live action one, just for nostalgia purposes.

Okay, thanks, everyone. I get it now, though I still think they could have made a $35mil live action movie. In any case, as nostalgic as it would be to see another live action movie, I'm really glad they didn't even attempt it. It probably would have just been another Turtles 3, and I don't think anyone here would have wanted that. As long as Imagi continues to do such an excellent job with their CGI, I'd be perfectly happy if any and all future turtles movies are CGI.

I was really hoping for a live action cg combo. I mean look how detailed the turtles looked in the latest movie, they were awesome. The humans sucked though. The backgrounds looked very realistic too. They could have used blue screens like star wars did and just created the city backgrounds and used real live actors and it probably would have cost the same.
I liked the cg in the movie all except the humans. Maybe cgi was the way to go, I don't work in hollywood. All I can say is that as a fan, I get a little disappointed when I see other comic movies getting a better deal. Like the trailer to FF2: Silver Surfer before the TMNT movie, it was awesome as all heck.
They started with cg and I think they should continue with it, I'm just hoping that if a sequel is made, they fix the humans, they really annoyed me.

I found nothing wrong with the humans. They were stylized is all. Ipso facto, the Turtles looked more realistic.

I dont understand making a CGI movie where you could have the human characters look realistic, and instead making them look like cartoons. Especially in a series that originated with live action movies, and in a movie with realistic backgrounds. The whole final scene lacked the dramatic impact it might have had if badly designed human characters werent making me think one of them was going to crash into a wall, smile, and then have all their teeth fall out while birds fly above their head.
