This really needed a thread of it's own Roseangelo & I had been talking about tough to find Mirage and related books by it's artists.
And other comics the TMNT make appearances in that maybe people didn't know about because Mirage hasn't listed them on the site.
I think this should get a sticky and I'll add comics as we learn about them.
I also just wanted to take the time to Thank Roseangelo without your help I would never have looked on ebay for those Next comics!

I just discovered, and purchased, a 1989 benefit 1-shot from Rip-Off Press called FIRE SALE, it's got 35 artists incl. Kevin Eastman, Mark Bode, Richard Corben, and other TMNTers.

Don't forget Space Usagi and Planet Racers.

I believe there were some crossovers with Flaming Carrot. Issues #24-26 or 25-27. Something like that.

There was also a a crossover with the Last of the Viking Heroes Summer Special (#2?).

Oh, and one of the TMNT/Usagi Yojimbo crossovers is Usagi #10.

I remember seeing some commandosaur prototypes for toys. I guess Laird didn't want to be forever associated with creating reptile properties? I woulda been interested in it, even if it wasn't half as good as tmnt.

I'm sure it was listed but I really liked the gobbledygook one shot (the later one) it had a lot of pre tmnt eastman and laird material.

I did post a bunch of Archie stuff yesterday, but it's just the regular series and Archie never really had anything obscure so I didn't announce it.

Oh yes those can be seen over @ www.michaeldooney.com because he sculpted them ;) Oh and I found out over at A.C. Farleys website where you can see some box art for these things that they where ment to be model kits or statues not action figures.

I actually picked up Gobbledygook Vol. 2 #1 the other day when I got all those Gizmo back issues.

And speaking of Gizmo/TMNT crossovers, I was perusing my collection trying to compile I continuity order (I should have a timeline posted by tomorrow) and noticed a cameo by a certain prominant member of the Gizmo cast at the end of TMNT Vol. 1 #47. ;)

Dunno how I never noticed him before.

Michael actually tried to get this to happen several times, he even sent Playmates sketches for a Gizmo figure that would have been released in the original line. The sketches and those of many other toys he submitted to Playmates can be found in the Michael Dooney sketchbook published by Tundra in '91.

Yet Playmates did a toy for Panda Khan who has to be about 100 times more obscure than Gizmo.

I think Dooney is seriously a genious he should really be trying harder to get his own propertys out there into the marketing world.

Fantastic read, but I'm sad now that there's no more. Dooney has such a fun and wild sense of humor, Gizmo could easily work in animation or its own on-going. The Space Ghost parody was probably the book's outright funniest moment. As a Space Ghost fan, I couldn't stop laughing.

Gizmo and the gang would fit in perfectly in the current Fast Forward cartoon. I'd love to see em. Hell, they're doing a Space Usagi crossover, why not Gizmo?

And yeah I agree about the gizmo thing. From what I remember it wasn't the best thing in the entire universe, but it was fun, and the gizmo would have made a much better figure than some of the other figures back then. I'm not hardcore enough to buy a modern gizmo figure, but if they had made one back in the day I'm sure I'd have more than one.

This may just barely qualify... because Matt Howarth didn't do much TMNT work, but he did do some, and anyone who likes it should know about "Kief Llama, Xenotech" This was a great 6(?) part mini-series by Fantagraphics in the late 80s. I'm not even sure which box it's in at the moment, but I particularly recall the charming covers. At first I wasn't too excited, but his art grew on me, and by issue 2 I had decided that he is an excellent storyteller who is just starting to come into his own and use some of his full potential in this project.

Yeah it's been tough to find for me ever since It came out I've never once a seen a copy of the trade paper back.
I just got the gizmo TPB in the mail today very happy so now I just need that chance issue of gizmo there's one on ebay but it's a bit much.
I always love when sellers think people are stupid and wont look at the shipping...comics shouldn't cost more than 2.00 to ship.:roll:

I don't have the collected Gizmo book; it's something I've been procrastinating on. There are a handful of books that fall into that category, actually, but I think I'll be fixing that soon.

Oh, and I got Firesale today, so I'll post that later tonight. Kevin has a one-page story in it which is actually very cool and doesn't feature Turtles OR nekkid people - a rarity, I'd say!!

No prob. That's exactly how I got it. All of them were in a quarter box when one of the only two comic shops in my area closed down. I was buying them by the shortbox, to the point where he started giving me 8 for a dollar. I found some killer stuff.

Yeah I got all the jujitsu gerbils comics as well they're all pretty funny I got them because they're connected to prime slime tales and sort to tmnt especially since kevin and peter gave the blessing for the spoof.

Pre-Teen Dirty Gene Kung Fu Kangaroos #1: Donatello appears briefly in this hilarious spoof

Savage Dragon vs Destroyer Duck: I have no friken clue why the turtles are even in this. I have the other TMNT/Savage Dragon crossovers but this one is just a brief cameo that has nothing to do with the rest of the story. This is the 3rd crossover with Savage Dragon (I think there's 4 all together)

Equine the Uncivilized 06: An amusing anthro comic set in a somewhat primitive world. Equine is a horse possessed by an orangutan wizard. Neither are apperantly well liked....particularly by the TMNT who own a bar in this world...they're constantly kicking him out. :lol:

Gen 13 v1 #13: The TMNT have a cameo in this in which they're met by the lead character who's surprised to see them in a valley of formerly well loved characters.

TMNT and Flaming carrot meet in Flaming Carrot 25 - 27. There's also a 4 part mini that I have yet to find.

Oh and I forgot to mention that Usagi is also in the issue (albeit under another name) Many of the anthro artists at the time contributed to this one issue and Stan Sakai was one of em. Panda Khan is also in the issue.

The inside is very random. Some drawings, some comics, some fiction, an interview, the Elvish alphabet... nothing related to TMNT at all (although the guy being interviewed does say that he reads the TMNT comic).

As mentioned in the last post, it's a very low budget fanzine, but it does have a logo for the United Fanzine Organization (UFO) on the cover.

Apparently in the first printing (3,000 copies) of this book, Peter Laird provided a pin-up that features Leonardo. But in the second printing, which is much more common, a guy named Fred Hembeck provided the pin-up.

Also of note is that some crazy guy named Ryan Brown drew the cover and another weirdo named Dan Berger pencilled the inside.

As far as I can tell, yes. I *think* the only difference is the different pin-up; for all I know it might also say "second print" on the inside.

I've ordered two copies of this book: One I'm 100% sure is the right one, the other I'm 75% sure. When I asked the seller who drew the pin-up on the inside he wrote back "Eastman." I went ahead and bought it on the assumption that there's a Turtle on the inside and this guy can't read "by Peter Laird" clearly written on the page. We'll see... but if it does end up being the second print I'll probably keep it anyways since Ryan and Dan worked on the book.

Ok, this one is so obscure that I can't even 100% confirm its connection to the TMNT world, but here's the story as I can tell it.

Back in 1997 I went to ChicagoCon. While there a friend showed me a book she had acquired and stated that it was a Ninjara cover. But she never let me have more than a few seconds glance at it (I think because it was an adult book and I was still a whole month away from being 18 - OH NOES!) - But that is not a digression for here. I can say that I have no reason to believe the statement about it being Ninjara was untrue, as I believe she was told this directly by a person who worked on the book.

Anywho, I was able to lock the title of the comic into my brain, although I never had any info on what issue number it was. The title of the comic was "Genus," which is basically the adult counterpart to Furrlough. And I swear this is one of the most difficult titles to do research for because there's really not a whole lot of information to find. And it's even harder to find cover scans, and since all I had in my head was a vague image of the cover to go on, that's what I needed to find.

Well, just this year I finally managed to track down the exact issue and now, through a crazy series of events I hope to never have to repeat (dealing with Furries who wish you, "Happy yiffing!" is not part of my ideal transaction), I have acquired a copy of this issue.

Now that I have the book and can look on the inside, I can say that there's no mention of who the character is on the cover and that character doesn't appear at all in any of the stories. And I am not at all familiar with the people who drew the cover.

That said, this was also published around the same time as the Furrlough issues that featured Ninjara and the back cover of this book features this cover alongside the Ninjara cover of Furrlough.

I'm pretty sure there's at least an Alf-like appearance of the TMNT in the Boris book, and then the Squirrel book is a parody of the Boris book (and I think it steals some panels from the Boris book), so that's probably a stretch but something I decided to include anyways.

The Boris the Bear TMNT appearance is funny.. "Im Leo!" "Im Don!" "Im Mike" "And Im Bob!" :lol: Usagi's in it as well as Panda Khan, Woody Woodpecker (who gets totally tanked) , some Care Bears, and others... Really funny series. Chalked full of crossovers.

But anyways... Have any of ya'll seen a Kevin Eastman/Simon Bisley comic called Thump'N Guts??? I found the first (and reportadly ONLY) issue. It came out in 93 and is set in the 23rd century. Deals with er I think it's aliens or zombies...or zombie aliens...it's a funky story and a bit confusing. The art's pretty good tho.

I just got and started reading Gizmo recently. I got through the first Chance issue and then the first Mirage issue. It seems rather kid friendly. I mean I know there's a few gun battles but the story writing reminds me of how I wrote stories when I was a kid.

Then I read why he wrote it like that, because comics are to violent, so I can see why.

It's by Kevin Eastman, Eric Talbot, and Simon Bisley, but it was never actually published by Mirage (rather by Kitchen Sink). Also, a revamped version of it was recently published in Heavy Metal magazine (which Kevin owns).

Wow nice deal! I found Albedo #2,3,and 4 in the $5 box about ten years ago. Didn't even know what they were at the time but bought them for their usagi content. Years later I find out #2 is an ultra-collectable. I've since sold them, and acquired #3 and 4 again..but alas I cannot find 2 for such a deal again...

I don't know about mirage, but the Archie adventures series 62 - 66 did have them which was printed late 94-mid 95. This could have been in conjunction with the cyber samurai action figures but I don't know when those were made. All of this stemmed from some cyber samurai show which ripped off power rangers.
