So, did anyone ever figure out why Don clipped some of Splinter's fur?

In the issue where Splinter died, Don clips off some his fur (?) and runs away suspiciously as if he didn't want the other Turtles to see what he did. Since then the other issues of Volume 4 never touched on it again, but what are your thoughts as to why Donny clipped some fur off his dead father?

Something to remember him by? I haven't read this issue yet (though I've heard a lot about it). Perhaps he hopes to clone Splinter? But if he clipped the hair instead of plucking it out, then he didn't get the hair follicle, and if he didn't get the hair follicle, chances for cloning are pretty much non-existant, unless he planned on asking a favor from the Utroms, and they were somehow able to salvage that but of fur...

I'm reading too much into this. :lol:

I was actually going to wait and post this question after I had read all of the Vol. 4 issues first in case the comics do touch on it some more later on. They should be coming in the mail any day now.

Wouldn't it be funny, though, if Don's going to try to clone Splinter?! :o Then we'd have a little baby Splinter running around and the turtles would have to raise their master instead of the other way around. Sounds silly, I know, but with the amount of sci-fi that's in this series, I wouldn't be surprised.

Probably not going to happen. For one thing, all the Marvel fans (Like you'rs truely) would forever call him "Cloneter" or "Clinter". Something to that effect.

I doubt that he wants to clone him, that would be a bit sinister and out of character for Don,
I don't think his brothers would be too happy with it either.
Splinter died of natural causes, cloning him would be against his beliefs, he should rest in peace.

That would make more sense, kinda like having a piece of Splinter's favorite clothing, only a bit more personal.

I'd wager it has some significance beyond Donatello just wanting something to remember his master by.

Laird's picked up some plot points from the second volume and I think he wouldn't want that vision of the future Splinter had at the start of the second volume to add up to nothing. Remember, it was also supposed to be Donatello that would be the one to bury him.

He actully could clone splinter it turn evil and that scene we see in volume two is Donatello killing the evil Splinter Clone.:D

I guess I'm the only one who ever considered this. I think Don took one of Splinters fingers. That is why he asks for forgiveness. If you think I'm crazy look at the cover of the issue and in the book itself. One of his fingers is not there.

Now that would be creepy.... I think the other 3 turtles would never forgive Donnie if he did create a Splinter clone, and worse, if he did turn out evil and stuff. "Damn you Donnie! You should have just left him dead!" "I-I'm sorry guys... I... I just wanted to have him back..."

God, the hardest thing they would ever have to do... kill their 'father', even if they know it's just a clone.. and so soon after his death too. I think after that ordeal was over, there would be a big falling out between the others and Don and he'd have to spend some time to get them back. That kinda thing could be the reason why he had some program of the old fight they had with the Shredder on the rooftop and it brought him to tears, because it reminded him of the old days when they were still a family... and also because it's what started the chain of events that would lead to where he is now....

Kinda deep if you think about it eh?
