Hi, I'm Vlad (the one who contribute the hebrew opening of the old school TMNT).

During the years, TMNT had a lot of changes. The change of Michaelangelo's Nunchuks to a whatever it was... the change of the opening animation after the syndication to CBS and a lot more...

My question is,
Which specific season and episode they changed completely the eyes design following more slasher and darker, and why that change was necessary?

Thanks and sorry for bad English

You're talking about the so-called "Red Sky"-seasons.

Wiki says the following: On September 17, 1994, (with a different theme song, opening sequence, and end credits background) the series continued with one episode per week, but big changes were made to the series. Starting with the 1994 season, the format of the series was changed to a more action-oriented show, removing many character building scenes and the cartoon feel of the series. The opening sequence was completely changed to one where clips of the 1994 Season were used instead of animation specifically for the intro. The theme song was changed to a techno beat and scenes from the 1990 live action movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were intercut with new scenes from the 1994 Season. The sky was changed from a blue sky to a red sky with gray clouds to give the show a darker tone, similar to what was done with the original Spider-Man animated series in seasons 2 and 3. The series ran until November 2, 1996 when it aired its final episode. Its enormous popularity gave rise to numerous imitators, including the Battletoads, Cheetahmen, Wild West Cowboys of Moo Mesa, Stone Protectors, Street Sharks, Biker Mice from Mars and battle bridges.

The first episode of the Red Sky season was "Get Shredder", episode #170.

As to why, I don't really know, but I guess they felt that the campiness of the old series has had its run and tried to make a more serious series.

It changed in 1994.
Was it needed no....was it cool yest in my opinion it was very cool!
I wish they would have went on with some more older characters and things that have been left unanswered before Lord Dregg came along in 1995.

Cool? well not for me then... I think the Old School TMNT is crushed already in when they banned the Nunchucks of Michaelangelo to a useless strings...

Even more bad from that is the way CBS banned the series couse it was too "violent" to the children. Oh... and the live action movies not that "violent"? If so, why they aired it in the beginning? it wasn't "too" violent for the children THEN? :sweatdro:

Anyway, so here is the opening animation timeline:
1987-1989: TMNT Opening Animation #1 ( Seasons 01~03, Episodes 001~065 )
1990-1993: TMNT Opening Animation #2 ( Seasons 04~07, Episodes 066~178 )
1994-1996: TMNT Opening Animation #3 ( Seasons 08~10, Episodes 179~194 )

Anyone want to re-correct it or it's fine? :)

Well, tmnt was never banned in the united states especially not on CBS the show was ended mostly because there was a huge kick in educational shows at the time. And Ninja Turtles wasn't found to be all that education so it ended.

I meant banned from the TV, not completely from the USA.
Think I get so far with the rumors... but thanks for the correct information

Well.. maybe the word "Ban" isn't correct here, but anyway... I'm from Israel, and it's never banned here, though they don't running it right now, but I'm sure in the future they will be :ohwell:

So what about the OP animation timeline?
1987-1989: TMNT Opening Animation #1 ( Seasons 01~03, Episodes 001~065 )
1990-1993: TMNT Opening Animation #2 ( Seasons 04~07, Episodes 066~178 )
1994-1996: TMNT Opening Animation #3 ( Seasons 08~10, Episodes 179~194 )

I just want to know if it's correct for my database of Old School TMNT :)

I believe censored is the word you're looking for.
And yes the show and just about everything else in the wide world of turtles has been censored at some point.
Well They don't run the 80's cartoon anymore because the cost to have the episodes is to expensive.
They sell them on dvd though so that pretty much takes care of everything because then you can watch them whenever you wish.:D
And for me to be sure of that I'd have to watch every episode to make sure even the dvd's of the 4th season are mixed up allot of them are given the cbs saterday morning openings when they should have the fox week day afternoon ones...it actully bothers me quite a bit.
