Pics of Raphael display finally. LOOK

Almost a year ago I hired an FX artist to commission a Raphael Display Head based off of his look in the 1st movie. I got finished pics of the head and will be recieving it this coming monday which is the 16th of april. Pics are kind of far away so its hard to see the amazing detail in the eyes, skin texture etc... but you can see that he did a great job with the head shape, mouth, bandanna but the coloring is different then the movie but I still think its great. The look that Raph has in this piece is based off the scene where he and Leo were arguing in April's apartment just before he leaves to the roof top. There is part of this argument when Raph's eyes squint really close and he looks angry. This is what this look is based off of. It is hard to see the eyes because the pics are so far away. I will update with better pics once I actually recieve the piece. Let me know what you all think? Thanks

Yeah it was very expensive. Having FX artist make this stuff isnt cheap at all. He is also making a custom display case for the head that I will get hopefully in a couple of weeks.

Well I am happy with the pics and the pics never do a piece justice so I guarentee I will love it in person. It actually has the scar and little scales like in the film as well. Although the paint job doesnt look like the movie it is still well done and looks very good in my opnion.

It took almost a year to complete because of other projects he had etc... but it is well worth the wait to me.

looks nice, yeah & it looks like an expensive piece. Your sculpter dude paid much attention to the shape and those cheeks. The chin area looks just right too. He really did a nice job.

No the Artist does not have a website, Yet anyways. I appreciate all the positive comments. I am glad he paid attention to the shape of his head,cheeks,mouth etc... and I am really amazed with the detail on the bandanna.

This particular piece cost me 950.00 dollars which is actually cheap. I got this at a discounted price. Normally a piece like this would cost around 1,300 to 1,800 without a display case.

I agree with you on the skin although the fact that the head is under bright light and there is a flash on the camera makes it appear alot brighter then it does in real life apparently. So I guess I will be the judge of that on monday.

I very much agree. The artist said the bandanna was by far the most difficult part of this piece. Do you think the knot in the back is to big or does it look good how it is?

well...that's how it looked in the movie. to be honest, i'm not a big fan of the earlier movie's look of the dudes but for what the artist tried to emulate, he did an awesome job.

I see, I personally liked the way they looked best in the 1st film but to each his own. I appreciate the compliment regardless. :)

It's a very nice sculpt it's lacking detail though but the photos aren't that great. It could be the really bad paint job over all thats making me not like this. But the sculpt is decent. If I was grading it as makeup fx teacher I'd give it a B-

B- is a pretty good score. I wont score it myself until I see it in person.

It very well could I honestly think you spent a bit to much but oh well such things can and will happen.
I think the really light green color is throwing me off allot on everything so some close up photos should really help.

Yeah I think its more of a medium green and with the light shining on it and from the flash of the camera it brings out alot of the yellow in it because he used multiple greens and yellow to make the skin. We will see

yes, a far too saturated light-green. the movie green has a lot more brown in it,
with a yellow tone around the mouth area.

Wow that animation is unreal. Looks alot like Mikey from part 1 and 2 movies combined. I am speechless and I agree on the skin tone. I asked the artist why he chose the brighter green but he hasnt answered that question yet.

I don't mind the brighter green color because it does add a great touch to Raph.The color itself is great and the fine sculpture is superb. Maybe if Raph is dark like Mikey pic above it won't look that good.

Thank you Mike, I am happy that alot of people appreciate the creativity and likeness that was put into this piece. I cant wait to get it tomorrow, I asked the artist about the paint and he saif that he didnt realize the huge difference and that he thought he nailed it perfectly. So I am thinking it looks a bit closer to the movie in person. Either way I am very happy about it. :)

It wasnt an online shop that did it. I belong to some forums called HMA which stands for Halloween Mask Association. I made a post stating I needed an FX artist to create this piece for me and the artist Emailed me and said he would love to do it. His name is Neal Kennemore and he has done work for the CSI Vegas show making some of the dead body's etc... He is very good as you can see. He doesnt have a website but if you want to contact him I will have to ask him first. Thanks for the compliment on the piece. :)

I just got the head and it looks great but to answer your question, you cant really see the eyes since he is squinting so much but it still looks awesome. I actually just put it up for sale on ebay. My wife and I had something come up that is going to cost us alot of money so I am forced to sell it which really sucks. I hoope it goes to a harcore fan of the turtles. Here is a link to the sale

I will do this if it doesnt sell this time. I still cant beleive it didnt sell for 500 the first time. I paid almost a grand for this piece and also people are willing to spend over 7,000 for a full costume why wont they spend 500.00 for an actual replica head that looks like the movie Raph. We will see what happens. I am letting it go for way less then I want to. I just really need the money soon.

I have little stuff I could sell but stuff that would sell for like 20 to 50 dollars. I need a larger amount quickly. The FX artist saved the mold so if I can afford another in the future he will make it but for right now I need to make some quick dough. Yeah it did. Its ok I wasnt happy with the paint job anyways. I need it to look exactly like the first film. I am going to hire a different artist when I get some money to make me a more real head. The artist I had do this was young and a newer artist but was cheaper. This time I am hiring a professional and very experienced Artist. You will see pics in a couple months hopefully. :)
