This is a fan art action figure of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Baxter Stockman enemy character that I made.

Materials:

(Baxter Stockman) Kleenex, newsprint, thin cardboard from a cereal box, synthetic hair from a toy doll head, plastic broom bristles, white/hot glue, wire twist ties, clear plastic from a toy package, and acrylic paint.

(Anti-Turtle Swatter & Arm Brace) Newsprint, a toothpick, thin cardboard from a cereal box, white/hot glue, and acrylic paint.

(Cannister of Mutagen Ooze) Newsprint, thin cardboard from a cereal box, part of a plastic pen casing, white/hot glue, and acrylic/poster paint.

(Communicator) Newsprint, thin cardboard from a cereal box, wire twist ties, white/hot glue, a photo from a Playmates TMNT toy package, and acrylic paint.

(Syringe) Newsprint, wire twist ties, part of a plastic pen ink tube, white/hot glue, and acrylic paint.

(Bag of Sugar Cubes) Newsprint, thin cardboard from a cereal box, white/hot glue, plastic Clingwrap, and acrylic paint.

(Kung-Fu Cannon & Hand/Foot Beam Attachments) Newsprint, thin cardboard from a cereal box, white/hot glue, and acrylic/latex paint.

Dimensions*:
(*The numbers given are approximations, as the dimensions of this figure can vary, depending on how the articulated limbs are positioned.)
20.4 cm/8.0 in. x 17.0 cm/6.7 in. (highest point x widest point)

Articulation:
Thirty-seven points. The neck is jointed where it connects to the base of the head and can move in any direction. The bowtie rotates. The waist rotates, but the coat tails restrict its range of motion somewhat. The human arms rotate at the shoulders, move in any direction at the wrists, and each finger is jointed where it joins its respective hand. The insect arms can move at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, and each finger is articulated at the base where it joins the hand. The wings can move in any direction at the point where they connect to the back. The legs move at the hips, knees, and ankles.

Time:
Approximately eight days. Construction ran from 4/7/07 to 4/15/07. I began the figure on the afternoon of the 7th, building and painting the head; I also attached most of the hair to it on that date. I completed and painted the upper body, including the suit jacket, on the 8th. Additionally, I touched up the head's paint a bit, added some more hair to the thin spots, and attached Baxter's bug-faced noggin to his body. On the 9th, I made the left insect arm and applied the first coat of paint to it. The 10th saw me completing, painting, and attaching both insect arms, both wings, and both human arms. On the 11th, I made and painted the right leg and waist but they remained seperate from each other and the body. The left leg was completed on the 12th and both legs and the waist were joined to the upper body, completing the figure proper. I also made the mutagen cannister accessory. I took a break on Friday the 13th and didn't do any work (but not because I'm superstitious). I constructed the Anti-Turtle Swatter (and the splatted turtle attached to it), the Kung-Fu Cannon, and the Hand/Foot Beam Attachments for said gun, on the 14th. The final day of work, the 15th, consisted of making the Communicator, Syringe, Bag of Sugar Cubes, and Anti-Turtle Swatter Arm Brace. Additionally, I put a loop on the right lapel of Baxter's coat to hold the syringe and applied a second coat of paint to the two gun attachments.

That's amazing! At first I thought you had taken an already made figure and customized it,...but WOW! I am amazed at what you can do with cereal boxes and kleenex! O_O AMAZING! And all those accessories! You rock! The detail! OMG.

I don't know if anyone else has already posted or seen this:

http://board.spawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=385131

One of the greatest customs I have ever seen. I wish Playmates would make a TMNT toy line similar to this. I would be more then willing to shell out more cash for figures like this.

I have to dissagree while it's fun all one would have to do is take a look at the pictures to see it really doesn't match up well with baxters toon counter part.
That always botherd me as a kid that his outfit didn't match the show.
The baxter this guy made is well made I will give him that but the specs of the character are way off.
Baxter not that skinny for starters.
He's also not that tall.
I think I may like it a bit better if those other things I listed didn't exist and the fact that the photos don't give us any close up details.
I'll give him points for doing real hair though as well as the accessories being very nice also.
Infact I like the accessories better than the figure.
It's still nice to see things like this though!
So has this guy made any other tmnt customs?
Oh I'd also like to say I was really expecting to see a Black baxter stockman custom figure I'd love to see some one make one.
I'm planning on making some classic toon characters myself at some point.

Pretty cool custom. I agree with Putrescent in that the accessories are probably cooler though. I love em.

First, a question to the moderator(s)/administrator(s): Why was my thread moved from the creative forum and put here? Do you not consider sculpture creative/art? Yes, it's a toy, but I sculpted the entire thing from scratch and consider it art/creative more so than I consider it a toy.

And a couple of replies to some of the comments:

This was never intended to be a recreation of the cartoon character design, which is why it's different from the animation in many respects. It's my own interpretation of the man-fly version of Baxter Stockman--I drew my inspiration from the cartoon, video games, and Playmates toy, but I also added my own touches.

It is also not meant to be in scale with the Playmates toys, I just included that photo so people who are familiar with the size of the Playmates toys would have a better idea of the scale.

I'm not the one who moved your thread. But it appears that there were two threads about your custom, yours and one in the toy section and now both have been merged together.

You'll probably find more people that will appreciate your work in this section than in the other one. On that note, I think it looks damn good. You don't see too many TMNT customs, especially of villians other than Shredder or the Foot. Do you have any plans on doing more characters?

Taken in the respect, I think that is pretty awesome. Like Putr said, not exactly in line with Playmates, but if thats not what you were aiming for, they excellent job man...the detailing on the accessories as well is amazin....and for me, the most impressive part, is that it took just over a week to make!! Good job man...:)

Yeah btw so this guy know I wasn't bing a duche bag I was Critiquing your work that's all it's really just not my cup of tea all though it is nice.
I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to character accuracsy.
The Job on the weapons is simply amazing though and I would have never thought of sculpting those weapons from the game.

holy sh** that's amazing. with such a limited pool or resources it's amazing what you can do with some creativity. but as mentioned, i really like the accessories much more than baxter, though he's cool too. :D

That's a pretty freakin' awesome custom if you ask me. I gotta say that I like the figure as much as I like the accessories. Keep up the good work!

No, I would definitely consider your sculpture (and custom figures in general) art. In fact, I thought you did an amazing job with it, and I always enjoy seeing how creative people can be when making custom figures. It's just that it was one of those cases where the thread could belong in either section, and since custom figures have traditionally been posted here, I thought you would get more feedback if the thread were moved here. This is because, like Doctor Strange mentioned, people who are interested in custom figures tend to visit here more often than the Fan Works section. Additionally, a thread about your figure (now merged into your original thread) was posted here shortly after you posted your original thread, which shows that people were looking here to discuss it even before I moved it.

That looks great! Pity it's made out of kleenex and such, but still great detail!

Amazing work on both the fig, and the weapons.

Love the custom weapons. Brings me back to the days when I played turtles in time.

patraw that is one beautiful figure! Congrats on being so darned talented! As for the people comparing it to the original animated toon, now that cracks me up! Playmates wasn't exactly known for looking at the original source material more than once themselves lol. One look at poor Toon Irma and you would think that the people at Playmates were on LSD.

Actually that wasn't on Playmates the fine folks at mirage supplied and designed tuns if not all of the toys for the original run of the turtles line.
Like you said in the other thread show accurate figures for the anniversary would be amazing.

I assumed it was Playmates problem as they moved on to Star Trek figures and the majority of them were as far off from the source material as the Turtles were. I do think that the vintage line having it's own perspective on most of the figures is one of the things that made it so very awesome. Bugs climbing on them and details like that, even if they weren't painted:( Except for Toon Irma that is. Making her outrageously colored was done to make an otherwise lackluster figure more appealing to kids but geez. Irma's my girl and she deserves an accurate adaptation. Oh well, call that my #1 wish from Playmates for the 20th anniversary. :D
