Toy or toon ?

Hey guys just wanted to throw this question and see which character design you prefer, Toy design or Toon? Depends of the character I know. :D
Name which version of a character you prefer.

For example I prefer Shredder's toon version over the toy but I prefer Rocksteady's toy design over the toon.

The classic toyline was awesome and many of the sculpts were really detailed but this doesn't mean it was perfect. Sometimes the toon had better designs.

I remember that as a kid I was dissapointed by the Baxter figure cause he didn't look like the toon.

I prefer the toy versions of the four turtles. They looked more like the Mirage versions, but with multi-colored masks.

MIRAGE had a huge influence on the toylines, and everything looked much darker and harder-edged, even the cover art for the games were made to look more serious.

The toy of Slash is much cooler than the show version.

That reminds me, what IS the first design of Slash? Did the toy come first or did the cartoon version of Slash come first?

The toy of Slash looks like the Slash in the Archie Comics, but the one in the old toon is completely different.

My question is which Slash design came first and why are they different from each other?

The Action figure came first, the cartoon version came second the the honnorable Archie one came last.

Oh yeah The Slash figure is awesome. The toon design was pretty lame compared to the toy.

Probably thought it was too hardcore for Saturday Morning...

Most of the toys were pretty cool, but some were pretty lame compared to the cartoon design or Archie comics design. Scumbug and Wyrm both looked totally lame compared to their Archie comics apperances, and Irma and Traag looked horribly lame compared to their cartoon appearances.

Overall, the toys were much better than the toon. I don't remember alot of the toys that were lame compared to their toon counterparts.. The first shredder, splinter, april were lamer... But right now, I'm trying hard to think of other examples.. but can't find any..

^ Playmates has been known to murder toon designs with their toy sculpts. Although I must say, they did come up with some good designs early on. (Slash)

But after a while, the toys started getting more and more goofy. I hated when they put little bugs all over Leo the sewer samurai's knuckels. grrr:x

i always wondered that too, it never made sense to me, and i always thought his head was too big for his body, also i thought he wasn't in the best of poses,.....in fact i never was very impressed with any of the shredder figures from the old toon :(

Yeah! Even Super Shredder didn't get the proper treatment.
He had to be huge. :(
and isn't he the smallest Shredder figure in the whole toyline?

^ that would be my number one gripe with playmates figures. The larger characters, OT or 2k3, are always the same size or smaller than the other figs. WTH. Super Shredder as mentioned is way off.

As for the 2k3 figs... Leatherhead is way too small, mutated don is way too small. the turtles themselves are huge with even bigger heads (compare april's head to the original turtles heads. The boys have huge domes) But believe it or not after that childish rant, I love my OT and 2k3 figs.

Scale has been a problem indeed. I thought that was going to change with 2k3 toyline but like you mentioned Neutrino the problem is still there.
Tokka and Rhazar suffered the same problems. Specially Tokka he was a joke, everyone was taller( well except Leatherhead).

The Tokka figure is a joke more than just size it's a joke because they didn't even sculpt a new figure all they did was sculpt a new head ploped it on Slash's body mold. and replaces his hands with tokkas as well as his shoulder pads. I was so ticked when that happend as a kid.

Oh yeah that was a bad move, bad!!! I love Slash they should've left his mold alone.
