Question for 2k3 and old toon fans

Okay with the release of the movie I began to get back into the turtle universe and now I think I am a fan for life. When the new cartoon came out a few years ago I never watched it mainly because I just always prefered the cartoon I grew up with in the 80's and 90's. I've only seen the first two episodes of season one, but it looks like it has potential. I know the new toon is supposed to be a lot more like the comics. So for fans of the old toon who watch the new series, was it easy to get into the series after awhile? As a fan of the old sereis, will I like the new one? Your help will mean a lot! :)

I grew up with the OT as well. Loved ninjas. Loved Weapons. Loved how they were mutant animals. I watched the show, bought the figs... you know, your average turtle freak. But all good things come to an end and soon the franchise cooled down.

Then here comes the OT's retarded cousin the next mutation which actually could have been decent if the costumes wouldn't have been so rediculous. Let's not get into Venus de Milo, I'll just say I did not enjoy her much and leave it at that.

After TNM it died down again, I began to mature. It was only after the OT and TNM that I read the comics. I only read a few Mirage that my friend had. He was a big comic boy.

Anyway when I first saw the first 2k3 ep as a teenager, I instantly fell in love with it. It is great. If you grew up with OT you can love 2k3. It's perfect that we got OT as kids and 2k3 when we are now older and ready for it. Personally I don't think it could have worked out better.

I do and here's why:
I grew up. I loved the TMNT from back in the day, and still do because it was fun, but when I want my TMNT with stronger story and character development, I gotta go 2k3. Both are great, but for totally diffrent reasons.

Yeah it's easy to get in to. I prefer the original series, and I love the 2k3 series.
Just watch with an open mind, realizing you arent going to be getting the 80s series.

Agreed, I was a HUGE fan of the 80's series as a kid, picked up the new series on DVD and got hooked on it. It's still the turtles, their personalities are still for the most part consistent (well, Raph is more of a broody feuding with Leo character and less of the wise cracking break the fourth wall and tell stupid jokes character (but hey, I still love Rob Paulsen). The storylines are more serious and there is more action and less humor, but it still has its moments where you snicker. The style is slicker too, it has a comic book feel to it.

I love both shows, the 80's show wins over the nastalgic kid in me when I watch it but I like the darker tone of the new cartoon with a more serious storyline.

There are a few of the original shows that make me squirm uncomfortably watching them now. I haven't really felt that with the new series though.

Cool thanks a lot. I always thought the new series was meant to be a little darker and yeah I think it's great that I grew up with OT and now we can into some more serious stuff. I'll be looking for the first season set in May (I think that's when it comes out) and hopefully I'll get into it a lot more.

Personally, the original outclasses the new series in almost every way barring the consistent sophistication (and even several seasons of the original can equal that), which of course is a neccessity. That does'nt mean of course that's bad, but it's humour is nothing compared to the original.

I watched the old series until it left in 1995 (?). My fascination died down quite a bit when Next mutation came on the TV. Then in 2003, my fascination came back because of the 2k3 series. If you like TMNT, you would probably enjoy the 2k3 series. It is darker than the original series and maybe more violent. But I will not compare the 3 series of TMNT because they are so different from one another. Neither one is really better than the other two...simple as that.

If you are a turtles fan you will. most people who grew up with the old show bash it without even watching it, they just saw it was different and not "their" TMNT and critisized it, kind of like the new movie. However anyone that gives it a chance will like it, the show actually has arcs and development in which you are hooked as you want to know more about that universe.

I find it harder for fans of the new show to like the old show better if they didn't grow up on it.

watching the old toons used to be a religious thing. it was also customary to see various school equipments and accessories with the green dudes plastered all over...even read the comics, as much as was available to me (as they weren't mine)...then i grew out of it...which had little to nothing to do with venus. :P i didn't ever try to keep up with the 2k3 series since it started, but watched them whenever i had time and it was available...so it got a little annoying after a while. then i went and got all the episodes on dvd to catch up and no surprise...i loved it. actually like it more than the original show...though the old toon will always be fondly remembered.

...I can never remember watching the old cartoon as a kid, but I'm sure I've seen it at some stage of my young life. Why else would I be so facinated with turtles all of a sudden? I can really remember the Next Mutation though. I didn't care about the story lines, to be honest. I just wanted to see dragons and Raph jumping out of the sewers with his motor bike :lol: But my memories are of the 2k3 show, and they are very good. Darker than the original toon, a plot that you can follow, a bit of sci-fi...

I'm sure that if you think that the new cartoon has potential for you to get hooked, I'd say go for it. You will have a fun ride with the show, let me tell ya that ;)

There is something classic and old-school cool about the old show--I wish I had all the DVDs of it. But, I still love the 2k3 series--it's what introduced to the turtles.

Personally I prefer the new one since I never really saw that much of the original. BBC in the UK only aired the first three seasons.

I grew up with the old one too and I'll admit even with the DVD releases I don't watch them as much as I do the 2K3 series. I think maybe because I really grew up with the comics too... Well as soon as I could read I did considering they came out when I was born. I quickly caught up and got back issues when I was older and by the time the old series ended I had a ton of them...
(BTW I think the OT ended in 1997 I'd say Scientific freak???
When the new one started and I saw how close it was (off and on) to the comics I fell in love with it too.
I love both of them for what they each are I think they have their individual strong points as well as not so strong points...I am just happy we have em'

I loved the old toon and watched it all the time growing up. I even watched some of TNM and I was pretty disappointed with that. I watched it anyway hoping it would get better with time but it didn't last very long. When 2k3 came out I was really hesitant to even watch it at first. We didn't have TV so it didn't make much difference but while over at someones house one day it came on TV. I sat there watching, I kept waiting for it to be terrible, at the end of the episode I was smiling. I love it. We've been trying to get all we can of it on DVD. Everyone in the house loves it. It does have a darker feel and it's general mood reminded me a lot of the movies at first and I loved that. It has a lot more to the plots and story lines then the old show. I'd definitely recommend it to any fan of the old show. <3
