TMNT is cooler than MOTU

Is it better than later volume 1 and all of 2???

in my opinion, no.
well, i didnt like the goof episodes of volume 1, but the "meat and potatoes" of it is awesome. i liked volume 2 alot too, but im kinda in the minority. now, if i was following that series as it came out, yeah, i might've been bored. but since i got them all at once (basically) it was interesting.

I have read only the first issue of volume 4, But I have heard it isn't in quite same level with older mirage.
I wouldn't say Volume 4 was better than the first two. It's definitely lacking Eastman's influence in the stories, but it's got its own charm to keep you hooked from issue to issue.

I think the original Mirage comics is much, much better than the current volume. Seems like Peter is taking the Turtles in a different direction for Volume 4, so I guess we'll have to wait and see what surprises are in store for us...

Well if someone thinks Volume 2 is better, It isn't about Eastman or Laird, Lawsson wrote it completely If I remember correctly.

yeah, from what i gathered, lawson wrote the stories, but eastman and laird had some input on the general direction of the stories, but lawson was allowed to develop it as he saw fit. i like the dramatic story telling style. id rather they let lawson do his thing here here in the new series rather than peter doing whatever he's doing. now they are still dramatic, but the turtles a kinda cartoon-ish (no weaps thing, some kiddy jokes), and at least lawson had some action in it.
but if you read vol. 2 as being all/mostly lawson, then it seems so was city at war - i felt city at war and the mood in vol. 2 to be identical - both were long dramas with nice suspense and action, with serious turtles.

City at war was written by Eastman and Laird, but Like in return to new york, Lawsson did all the art.

yeah i know that, but i was just saying that when he was given the reigns, he still kept the style and mood of the comic.
however, with this new one....hmm...needs some work =/. im thinking if it was just lawson doing the stories, it might be slow, but it'd be good stuff, as opposed to what we have now.

Well I can't judge it yet, but many people have said that volume 4 is ok.
I think Vol. 4 is alright, but it almost feels like they're trying to get a feel for it again. Assuming that they haven't being doing TMNT stories and art during their down time. It's been years since they last did this, and people change, styles change and all that.

If I remember correctly, Kevin and Peter plotted City at War while Lawson wrote the script. Or something like that.

Might be... I have not yet read thos issues, So I can't say for sure. It would explain why it has the same feel as volume 2.

Shades of Grey/City At War is the IMHO the best TMNT storyline, and one of the best comic book stoylines, ever. The characters are the center of the story. At the same time though, there is action galore. Man those Shredder Elite sure kick ass!!
My next favorite is Return to New York. It's a fantastic story and the art is phenomenal. What a perfect way to wrap up the TMNT/Shredder storyline. I'm so excited that this 3 parter will be in the new cartoon this season.
So far Vol. 4 has not produced anything near the magnitude of the stories above (or issues 1-11 +Leo and Raph for that matter). But as I've said before it's building to something big, I'm just not sure what. I hope it's good.

the reason city of war got so much acclaim is mainly due to some of the crap that came from 22-early 40s. the goof comics...well i just dont like them. there were some good stories in there though, definately.
but people just like having the creators due to the comic, so everyone was talkign about how great it would be long before it came out. ive read only one letter that said bad things about the series - it took way too long. the guy said they could've done it in half the isseues, and hes right. but like ive said before, i prefer the slower stories. its not the story goes so slow, but they show lots of scenes as ethings go on, rather than rushing it and having every page crammed with dialouge. i like the drama.

I don't like the gooy issues either. Worse are the 38-40. But I do like many of the guest artists work.

i think you people are unfairly judging volume 4. the point is that volume 4 is an ongoing, very long storyline.... you wouldnt think city at war was that great if you only read a few issues of it, now would you??
in any event, i do agree that volume 1 is better in many respects, but volume 4 blows away volume 2.

most issues of city at war had some sort of action going on. and not all this "fight for a second a be friends" or "fight for a second and realize it was someone else" fighting we are getting in the new series.
and i still dig vol. 2 over what we currently have over vol. 4.

I agree with you about City At War. It was paced just perfectly. I don't mind the fact that it was long, as long as the story was good, the characters were enthralling, and each issue had something good to offer. IMHO it was an epic masterpiece.
Well I wouldn't go as far to say 22-early 40s was bad. Veitch's "Old Man River" 24, 25, 26, Dooney's Complete Carnage and Radical story in 27, Lawson's "Sons of the Silent Age" 28 (one of my personal favorites), Farley's Vampire story 29, Veitch's Crazy Car story 30, and Zulli's series 31, 35, and 36 were all great stories. Not to mention with the exception of Zulli's they can all be considered canon. Although, I will grant you that with the exception of these issues there really weren't many interesting issues until 42.

Yeah Like I said, most of the guest artist stuff is good. Not as good as Eastman, Laird, or Lawssons' of course.

I've been thoroughly enjoying volume four. I like it's pace, and it has me wanting more every bi-month. Unfortunately, I missed issue 7 because I was ... uhm... away... and I've only been able to read the letters section of issue 8 as a result. Can't find 7 anywhere (by anywhere I mean the one place I've looked so far).
I did pick up seven issues that I needed of volume one at my local comic store. Now I only need 10 more... can't wait to read "Return to New York" (have had 19 and 20 forever, but can't find 21) and "City at War."
