Just wondering which version of the turtles you guys prefer. The soft headed ones or the hard ones?
Many of my friends prefer the soft headed ones but I on the other hand find the hard headed ones better.
I think the ones with hard head fit better with the rest of the toyline as opposed to the soft headed ones that were only produced for the first series of figures ( correct me if I am wrong here please).

I guess my question really is what is it about the soft heads that people like better huh?

They're rarer and more valuable. :D Not too mention that the very first release consisted of soft heads (with the fan club insert inside), so if you really want the "original" turtles, it's soft-head all the way.

I do think however that the hard heads have better sculpts and if you're displaying loose figures, they definetely look better next to the other figs.

In the end, I just got sets of both. MWHAHAHAHAHA!!

I never seen the soft headed version. Is it made of rubber so you can squish it like a rubber duck and it goes *squeak!* ?

Eh, blow off the soft heads and go for pop-ups. You get more for your buck and besides many pop-up figs have soft heads anyway.

They are like the heads from the Masters of the Universe line.;)

Mike, you got turtle fever!
I've seen you around the he-man forums. Nice sig dude.

Anyway I prefer soft head for MOC, because there's nothing like knowing you have the very first turtles action figures ever made. But for loose the hard head definitely holds up better, if you squish the soft head too much it'll crease and some paint will chip.

Yeah man I got the Green fever alright!! :D
I've seen you there too buddy! :)

Well I am not much of a MOC collector as I prefer to display my figs loose. So the way to go would have to be with the hard heads then.

If you have both types of turtles (soft and Hard heads) next to each other can you be able to tell the difference just by looking at them?

I just got my first taste of the soft-heads today. I bought a large lot on ebay and when they arrived today there was a soft-head Shredder, Splinter, and Mikey in there. I was pretty pumped. I put the Shredder and Splinter in my display, but Mikey went in a case.

I think if you had all 4 turtles it would be cool looking but you can definitely tell the difference on the turles because the soft heads are a slightly lighter shade of green (at least on Mike).

Oh that's interesting, thanks for the info. Could you by any chance take a pic?:D I am dying to see one. :P

Alright!! Thank you so much for the pics Raphsation.:)
They are not that different but the difference is definitely there. I can totally see it thanks to you.

I can see that Soft Mikey has a smaller head.

The soft heads are better of course, for collectors. For kids: hard heads. As a kid, my soft head Raph had a permanently-squished-in head which annoyed the heck out of me.

And speaking of pop-ups, does anyone have a complete list of every figure that came with one (in particular Krang, Foot Soldier or April)? I want to know if I have a complete set or not!

Ive never had the hard head ones, only the soft heads. And much like MoTU, I prefered the soft heads. I think it was only because I was so used to the soft ones, but the hard heads always looked a little weird to me.

April, Krang, and Foot Soldier are the only 3 figures from series 1 and 2 that did not come with pop-ups.

I've heard Krang does exist, although I've never seen one. I think I have them all if Krang is not out there... There may be 2 versions of Baxter Stockman (diff. color swatters) and I've only got one.

Ok I have to clear something out. A friend of mine told me that he had a soft headed Slash. I told him what I knew about the subject but he is swears that he did. But I haven't heard of anyone else with one.

Has anyone else heard about a Soft Slash?

I dunno, sounds like CRAZY mumbo jumbo to me. heh.

So many people claim Krang does exist with a pop-up. Let the fact that you or I have never seen one make the decision for you. But people say April wasn't released with a fan club form and a soft head but I have one so I guess that with this line anything is possible. Baxter was released with alternate colors on his swatter/machine thing yes, so there are technically 2 different Baxters. Ace Duck was also released in 2 ways, hat on and hat off both with pop-ups. So with variations your looking at 19 pop-ups total. Now, it's very possible that since Casey came with 2 different pant colors (grey and purple) that he may exist both ways with the pop-up as well. Not to mention that Genghis Frog had more variations with his yellow belt and his bagged grenades. I guess pop-up availability depends on whether Playmates had already made running changes by the time they released the pop-up gimmick. I'm trying to complete my pop-up set but as I must have unpunched cards and perfectly mint pop-up stickers it's going to take me some time i'm afraid. I don't want the variations though simply the 17 figures with pop-ups. I would love to see a picture of all 17 pop-ups loose but unfortunately I don't think it's ever going to happen. I would love to know if April was on any of the pop-up dioramas. I have came across a few different people who claimed to be writing the book on vintage and their variations but once I talked to them I realized that they didn't know enough about them to be writing any books. I do wish someone would though.

Without variations and Krang, I must have them all. I do have both versions of Ace Duck. The hardest ones for me to find were Rat King and Traag. I've been confused for years as to how many there are. I have never seen one opened, all of mine are still in package. I don't think they are all unpunched, but they all have stickers.

And to stay on subject..Slash doesn't exist with a soft head. This was only in the first run of figures, and Slash wasn't in that set.

Yeah Traag's a toughie. Ya know it's funny how we remember things. Up until a couple of years ago I swore that the Genghis Frog I had as a child had a blue belt that matched his accessories. I of course realize now that that doesn't exist, but I swore it was blue. So your friend remembering things differently too doesn't surprise me.
