Cool! I'll be sure to pick these up next month.
Got both issues at the comic shop yesterday. And just read them.
Some more good stories.
As The S says, quite an interesting return in #33, and have another surprise appearence in #34
Hamato Hana -- Yoshi's niece!

Pretty chuffed with these I must say! I wasn't expecting anything when I went into my LCS, as my 'puters been down, so to get two was awesome!! The Splinter and Casey team-up was great, although why does Splinter refer to Casey as Mister Jones all the way through? That kinda bugged me. Splinter was baddass though, especially on the lake, he looked awesome. And when Casey climbs outta the window with his gear on, I was like "Yeah! Go get 'em Tiger!" he looked so cool.. I especially like this line:
"Dont' worry, I won't go all Raphael on you... MUCH!"
Also, I wasn't expecting the mysterious villain at the end, that was a surprise! The back-up story was great too.
As for 34, I loved it. Cool story, awesome and gruesome twist at the end, total took me by surprise! Lawson's art was superb, how much better does it look when he inks and tones his own work? Just compare it to vol 4... And the return of the letters page! WOOHOO!!!!

:o Seriously?! Another must-have. I am totally going to my comic store before the week's end!
Does it explain who the father of Yoshi's lil' flower is?

No, only gives that simple part --about her being his niece-- nothing on her folks. Though, a group tries to use false info: saying Hana is Yoshi's daughter, to get to Splinter.
Also in for some more surprises in the story (but will leave it at that, for you to see for yourself).

So this would make Hana, technically Splinter's cousin, right?

Tales 33: I've never really liked the idea of the Shredder Shark and Im glad that this issue finalizes that story and that the foot mystic learned the errors of his ways.
The side story set 20 years ago when Don was 16 was really deep. "This is the soul of all that I know.." I love it!
Tales 34: In Tales of the TMNT 19 we learned that when Yoshi and Teng Shen were banished from Japan the entire Hamato clan were ostrisized and it was hinted that they were all killed. Im glad that at least one other survived. So the turtles at least have a cousin in Hana. But I wonder if there's more Hamato's out there? Surly Hana isn't the only survivor?

You've clearly never had a pet rat. All the rat owners I know consider their rats as family. They consider them to be their kids or siblings. They become a part of who you are even tho they only live 2 - 3 years.
If I ever have any rats again Im definatly naming one Hana. :D

Well considering Splinter considers Yoshi his father and the Turtles his sons (and subsequently, April his daughter), that would make sense.

I definitely consider my meeces to be my family. But I see myself more as an older human sister. I am not the most maternal person in the planet even though I love kids very much.

I have to admit, I haven't cared for the turtles comics recently. But that changed with this stop to the comic shop. I didn't care for the moo mesa issue, but #33 was great fun, and #34 had what I think is one of the best original tmnt stories in a while. I think #34 would be perfect to be adapted in the 2k3 cartoon if it returns from fast forward.
Jim Lawson, poor guy, must have a ton of free time on his hands since TMNT has been on hiatus. It shows with his latest tales issue, the backgrounds and character designs were all great. I was sorta sad that those foot knock offs got beheaded, because I liked their costumes.
Even the TMNT movie tie ins were great. I got a ton of turtle comics with this stop, I only go in ever couple months. My only complaint is that the black and white doesnt seem to work as good as it did in the 80's. Maybe because the gray toning is gone? Anyway I thought, especially for the movie tie ins/adaption, that the comics should be in color. I know they're not selling well, but I also know that Mirage can afford taking a chance and putting at least the movie adaption in color. It would have been a good way to test how putting at least one comic in color would sell. The worst that could happen is they lose a little bit of money on that one single comic. But then again putting something in color probably only helps the chances of it selling, especially when it's a cartoon movie tie in.
Anyway, good job Mirage. It looks like you're starting to get back to your A game. Now to bring back volume 4...

I got #34 today (a mixup with Diamond had my comic guy with Justice League comics last week instead of #34) and agree that it was a good issue. It's nice to see a down-to-earth issue with all four Turtles AND Splinter.

I bought and read both of them yesterday. Both were fantastic and worth the money.
There was a story that took place in 1987. And the NY skyline was shown having something that it does not have now. Totally heartbreaking. (I do not know if discussion of this is allowed, hence I'm being vague).

Well I go to the city every day and let me tell you, I love seeing things that are not censored in that matter. I have been a NY'er my whole life, and I am VERY proud to see those two beautiful buildings in anything just to remind me of how well we have stood together as a country since that morning.

The loss of the WTC is history. They were there, now they're not. History should not be avoided.

I agree and I'm very surpised no one else mentioned the guest apperances in #33 by Ch'rell, Gizmo, fluff, and some business man who i have no idea who he is.
I was a bit botherd seeing Ch'rell utrom shredder there seeing as he has absolutly nothing to do with the mirage tmnt and them adding so much of 2k3 into the stroys allready. But It makes me now wonder if Donatello or any of the other turtles will finally get an adventure with Gizmo and Fluff! I'd die to see that! Thats the team up I want to see and Shoat should be in it also since he was sent to their time period.

Huh? Ch'rell in Tales #33? I thought that was about Casey and Splinter versus Shredder Shark.
And Hattori is the guy from Volume 1 #9 "The Passing" and "Masks, Parts I and II." Oh, and Tales #22..

I read Tales 33 yesterday and do not remember Ch'rell being in it. It was some entity from the past trapped inside some monster. While it is possible that Ch'rell was behind it all, he is not shown directly. Nor is he in Donatello's Credo.

I figured as so ok thanks.
And good old Ch'rell is in a little blurb in the short Donatello story in the back of the comic if I had a scanner right now I'd show you.
It also has Gizmo & Fluff 2 michael dooney characters who are awsome mind you but the turtles have yet to cross paths with it makes me wonder if that wasn't a hint at something I've been waiting for years to see!:D

I like this. I may even put it in my signature.... reduced size, of course :P ...
ETA: And BTW, which one is Gizmo and which one's Fluff? I'm pretty new to the comic side of the fandom and I don't know these characters...
VaughnMichael

not like you could really tell with the animish style but Gizmo is the robot in the middle and Fluff is the dog alien next to him they ar eboth characters of michael dooneys a long time artist at mirage. Mirage also public the gizmo comics.
And as everyone can see Ch'rell is right there don't know why he would be in a panel of friends though.

I think maybe it's just an Utrom that looks similiar to Ch'rell, that we may see in a future Tales issue. After all, he is referenced as a friend, and he doesn't have the scar....

that is true he doesnt have the scar which I didn't even notice at first thanks for bringing that up but he has the same exact shape as him and we've never seen another utrom that looks like that all utroms from what we've seen thus far have all looked the same besides a few being differnt colors.

Well, the 'jungle' utroms in volume 4 look different, but its because they've been mutated. Perhaps there are other utrom species that the turtles have met that we've yet to see? Isn't there a short story or two in which the turtles were invited back up to space by the utroms? (I think in Shell Shock or Turtle Soup or something! I can't remember!) Perhaps they met Gizmo and Fugitoid and the other weird utrom during that trip? Oh how a Mike Dooney Tales revealing this truth would be AMAZING!
And for my tuppenceworth:

April, Casey, Fugitoid, Gizmo, Fluff, coupla utroms, Renet, Gosei Hattori...
