How could anyone NOT love this episode? This episode was awesome and funny! Along with New York's Shiniest, and best of all, both of those episodes were released on the same VHS tape!

totally agree with you  however, it always makes me smile to hear Shredder talk like Michelangelo...much hilarity there in my opinion :P
Man, this is one of the few Old Toon episodes I have managed to see. I was just cracking up laughing through out the whole of it, from Mikey's hypnosis to Shredder coming into the lair bearing pizzas and shoving pizza into his face at the pizza parlor

Brilliant story, but the animation was kind of bizarre. Laughed a lot - until I had tears in my eyes though, especially when Shredder was wearing Michelangelo's ugly man mask!

I haven't watched much old toon since I was like 7 years old.. but all of this sounds so farmilliar! It's like trying to recall a dream, but it's not quite there. Clearly I must invest some time in watching the old toon!
(Perhaps I will unlock more secrets to my past through them like I did recently: I watched the turtle tips segments and now remember who told me to not leave the water running when brushing my teeth)

I agree that this was a good episode and very funny. James Avery did a great job of immitating Michaelangelo.
I felt sort of sorry for Michaelangelo though. Splinter had the perfect chance to cure him of his pizza obsession, but he took the mind control off him. There was no need of that. :ohwell:

That scene is hilarious!
Of all 4 Turtles, I think Donnie had the biggest crush on April. He's the only one of them not shown crushing on anyone else after all!
What would be funny would be Irma hitting on Shredder. While Raphael watches and makes wisecracks about it and all!
Sage Ninja
05-17-2007, 02:12 PM
actually I always thought that Donatello had a secret "thing" for Irma, not necesserally April. It just always seemed like there was something unspoken between the two of them. A good example is in Green With Jealously where all the turtles get crushes on Irma (because of a love potion  ) and start pining over her and Donatello is sort of just left on the side lines. I don't know I just felt that Donatello appeared some what pensive over the whole way the other turtles where acting toward Irma.
Another example is the episode Dontello's Degree where there is significant Donatello and Irma interaction, when they team up. Lots of sublety if you bother to look.

OMG Shredder looks just a little to happy to be standing behind Michaelangelo on that cheap skate of his! Either that or the way the animation keeps looping like that is giveing me the wrong impression :|. Am I the only one that was disapointed that Michaelangelo and Shredder didn't get into a fist fight over the cheap skate? I thought that the shoving match should have accumulated into more of a brawl than that. Michaelangelo walked off to easily. Thats your cheap skate Michaelangelo and no one should touch it but you!

I finally saw all of the eppy today, and "Back to the egg" its so bad its good in my opinion. I was laughing pretty hard at it.
First time in ages watching the Old Toon, I was too young at the time to remember it.

I just wish "Back to the egg" had had all 4 Turtles revert to toddlers. And that Leo had not been so OOC. I can imagine toddler Mikey being bratty- but not toddler Leo. Unless the potion purportedly make them be all bratty and not just return to being young in age.

I felt that most of the episodes on DVD volume 4 were poor quality, but I never thought it was a bad investment because this episode was on it. Hillarious. Shredder talking like Mikey is one of the best things from the old series IMO. And Mikey trying to go to the Pizza Parlor to think things out, and saying, "I'd like to order something, but I crave pizza no more!"
The only down side to the entire episode? Wrong sounding Krang.

Little quoty-quote for ya:
Raph: "It sure is hot in here...(finds out that he and Leonardo are heading for the pizza oven) no wonder! We're about to become today's hot plate special!"
Leo: "Uh! What a way to go! We'll probably get eaten, by Shredder!"

Only plothole was, if Shredder thought he was Michealangelo.... didn't he think it was weird there was another Michealangelo in the sewers and on his Cheapskate?
Well, it wasn't like Michelangelo was much of a thinker in the first place.
Besides, Shredderangelo never really looked in a mirror and saw himself.

Definitely one of my favourite episodes! It reminds me very much of The Old Switcheroo, with it having the same sort of premise, another fav of mine.
I liked the random shifts in animation too. Like the scene when the turtles first encounter Shredder in the lair, their expressions become extremely cartoony for a few seconds.
This is also one of James Avery's funniest performances!

Lol, that's great. And of course my parents had a heck of a time trying to explain to me that Leonardo (etc.) was actually an artist, lol. I know a lot of parents probably didn't like that, but I look at it this way: Kids knew and recognized these names for years after that; much more than they would have without the OT.
Oh and I have to say, watching these episodes again I'm reminded of why I had such a crush on Michaelangelo back in the day, hehe. You know he was like the little kid in the group so you could identify with him when he made mistakes and you felt sorry for him when the others scolded him just for eating all the pizza...again, hehe.
Btw Oniri, love that sketch in your signature, lol.

Yes, my friends, the two bumbling idiots who are iconic for always messing things up and never getting anything right actually, through a series of contrived coincidences, get the drop on a ninja turtle and capture him on account Mikey was stupid enough to leave his weapons behind. Michelangelo must be feeling mighty embarrassed right about now because you have to really be full of fail in order to lose to freaking Bebop and Rocksteady.

Apologizes for the decade later necro-post, but I just finished watching this with my boys and realized that Shredder and Krang's plan wasn't to replace the president but to have their holo-president inaugurated. Krang says as much...I guess they wanted a duely elected holographic puppet president.
