I recently got a couple cans of Ooze and wanted to open one. If I do this is it pretty much a forgone conclusion that it's gonna dry up? Anyone have any tips on how to keep it oozey? Thanks in advance.

I opened a sealed can, it's pretty much pure liquid now, not gel like before. If you want some ooze like stuff to play with the Spider-Man 3 line has goblin slime which is pretty much the same thing.
The symbiote ooze is pretty cool too.

Yea, I wouldn't recommened opening it...though I'd be interested in knowing of any peservatives would work...

I bought a case and a half about a year and a half ago and the ooze was and still is just fine. The cans are sealed with a plastic cover and then the lid so if you keep the lid on it when it's not in use it should be just fine. There's also a can on Ebay right now from a sealed case and the seller says the ooze is just fine, still oozey. Oh and woo hoo I finally learned how to get an avatar under my name!

Hey man, welcome to the boards. I've been seeing you dropping comments more often, and you seem to know what you're talking about. Always nice to have another toy nut on the boards.
Mine was sealed too, with the little plastic wrap. It's completely possible that mine was kept at abnormal temperatures. But even so, why take the chances when there's better alternatives. This stuff really wasn't made to last forever, or even a year. Kids like me lost most of it in the carpet. Keep the ooze can sealed (idk maybe it's just me but keeping it sealed makes it a little nicer) and substitute your ooze play with goblin slime (the venom slime is cool too, but it's black, try and get the 2 pack with goblin and venom if you like both, ignore the stupid sandman sand) or maybe get the stuff in the quarter machines like at k-mart/toys r us.
It shouldn't be hard to make actually. I talked to my dad who is a food scientist and I think he said it's a completely lethal substance when in powder form, but when liquid is added it makes it totally non-toxic. And that the powder can be bought at certain chemical stores.

Thanks for the tips, but I couldn't resist opening one can. I still have one regular and one Foot ooze sealed. I wanted one of the premutated figures to add to the collection. He reminds me of the little turtles from the first movie.

"Radical, radical, radical!" :tlol: That part was always so weird to me.
It seems like I've seen different turtles though, are there different types of turtles that came in the ooze? Does anybody know how many?

I never had the turtle you have pictured above. I have like a dozen of the glow in the dark baby turtles, where they actually look like turtles on all fours. I also have a brown baby splinter from the ooze. I might have the one above in a sealed can of ooze, but I definitely never had that as a kid. Looks really cool.

Hey, I appreciate it, thanks! I've pretty much been collectin' TMNT for 20 years now but it still amazes me at the things i've learned lately though. I never had that stand-up turtle fig when I was little either, so needless to say I was really surprised when I opened a can recently and got him out. As a child I always forgot (or was too lazy) to put my ooze back in the can so it always dried up in my Sewer Playset and I had to scrape it off  I've been meaning to tell you that your nic brought back a memory long forgotten, I used to drink the heck outta ectocooler! :D I also remember that slimer candy in what looked like a toothpaste tube, you ever have that? I love the real ghostbusters back in the day. Also, as a child we made ooze in school as a project but my dog ate it when I got home. Steven

Oh this pic brings back so many memories.:) Those turtles were awesome.
I've been wanting to buy a can of ooze for a while just to get one of these guys but after this thread I am going to do it, that's it!! I had forgotten about how cool they were.:D
I never had the glowing little turtles as a kid though. I had this one and the splinter that came in the purple foot ooze.
Congrats Raphsation !! I am glad that you opened one. It's almost impossible to resist. I am sure the ooze will be just fine.
Very cool lil fig there...i had completely forgotten about those lil guys but when I saw yours, it brough tback such memories from chidlhood...very, very cool...

This is just an idea but maybe if you put a square of Plastic Wrap over the container then put the lid back on?
Also, I won a lot of turtles the lady had no pictures of the standing turtles, so when I got the lot and opened the thing I was amazed to find them, had never seent hem before.
These are few and far between I wouldn't sell a one if I were you.
I finally got a duplicate Splinter off ebay a while back, they don't come up often.
The only problem with one of my standing turtles is he doesn't stand so well.

Well, good luck with that...I had been trying to talk someone out of one of the little turtles but he wouldn't budge. I would eventually like a set of each (there are three different types of turtles) and a Splinter to go with each. Only reason I sold you my second Splinter was a) I am planning on buying more Foot Ooze myself, and b) I am a long ways away from having two complete sets, let along three.

ah that's quite Oozey!
pics aren't coming up... can you post the recipe? Has anyone made that royal ooze drink that was posted on the jello packets?
The recipe:
-Two small cups filled halfway with water.
-Add borax and food coloring in one cup and and stir until dissolved.
-Add guar gum to the other cup and stir slowly until the guar gum is dissolved. Guar gum will lump up when sitrred to fast. If this happens, add a little more water and stir to remove lumps.
-Get a small topperware container and pour both of the cups in together.
-Close lid and shake thoroughly.
Soon, your ooze is complete!
Instead of using guar gum, I use xanthan gum. It is more friendly when it comes to covering the turtles or the bad guys in slime. It can be removed from rugs, clothing, and your figures with ease. When it drys, you can add more water and borax. Then, shake the contents to restore your ooze back to normal. Using glycerine and polyvinyl alcohol can mar your materials and everything mentioned here if not measured carefully. So, I do not use them!I want to get at least 100 more years of playware out of my awesome figures and playsets! Hope this helps! :twink:

The only thing stopping me from turning that recipe into a reality is having no canister to put it in hahaha. If I were playing with toys or something, it would totally work but I don't see that happening any time soon. Boy, I wish I woulda had that recipe as a kid, though. I think the ooze was no longer being sold by the time I was around.

Sorry for the Bump but I have some 'Ooze' containers which have been sitting around for a good 5-7 years, yes you read right 5-7 years, some have been opened and others still sealed with their plastic on it. (Although, maybe i should open 'em up to look inside, just in case?)
they're still Oozy, sure one was a wee bit liquidy but after playing with it (squishing it in the canister) it 'fixed' itself, same goes for my others whose edges felt a wee bit dry. just squished it. sometimes i shook canister to fix it if I didn't want to touch it right then or open a still sealed one...
wow it's been long since I really hung around here...
my ooze canisters are like this http://www.ninjaturtles.com/toys/2004/ukooze/ooze.html

When I was little I had 4 of the glow in the dark baby turtles and a brown baby splinter, but I had never seen the other turtle before.
How many figures did they make for the Ooze?
Also, I hated the ooze, it smelled nasty and was just unpleasant.
There were 2 toys I had growing up that I lost and always regretted it. My plush suction cup Raph doll and my glow in the dark turtles (4). So a while ago I went on eBay and bought them again. The Raph plush is the bigger one though, I still have the other 3 suction cup turtles and I have a Don of the bigger size still too.
I did manage to get 2 glow in the dark baby turtles on eBay, but one of them is TINY. As in they made 2 different sizes. Did anyone know that? I'll get some pics later. (Gotta go back to my parents' house to get them.)

Haha, they aren't for sale. I was just showing how they made two different sizes. Not sure why, I've seen the bigger one a lot, those were what I had when I was a kid. The smaller one I found on ebay several months ago for $4.99 by itself. Thinking it was the same size, it was quite a shock when I got it and saw how small it was. The bigger one I got in a random accessory lot for like $30 about a year ago.

Wow I have never seen those, is the bigger one the normal sized turtle or the smaller?
I wish some one in the fandom could make casts of these guys, it would be great to get multiples.
I have quite a few of my own, 2 splinters, 2 "standing" turtles and I think 6 glow, 2 of mine have marker on them I got off ebay.
I love these guys more than the figures, and that ooze smell was heaven.

Go figure these glow in the dark baby turtles I had growing up that I loved so much I ended up losing all of them, and the baby splinter I had that I hated I ended up keeping till now. Oh well, at least there's ebay and allowing me to correct a childhood mistake.

Never owned any of the big containers of retromutagen ooze stuff or those mini figurines, but i've been wanting to get the flushomatic MISB and see if the sealed ooze is still good. Has anyone else gotten one of those where the ooze is still good?
Today, I decided to be bold and open up my canister of retromutagen ooze that came with the Oozey playset. I removed the clear, brand new seal from the canister and decided to play with the slime. I noticed that the consistency of this ooze is thick and oily. I believe that the polymers had matured with age where the ooze can be held without the runny mess. There is no residue left on my hands either.:tgrin: I have posted these pics to share with you all. This is waaaaay better because I can get more play-ability out of this without wasting! What are your thoughts?

Thanks! Have this happened to the polymers in your new retromutagen ooze? I would like to know.

Not sure I don't have any open cans
If you have any new cans, try and see if this had happened to one of your canisters.:tgrin:

Well, give it 25 years...
Since I am a retromutagen ooze enthusiast, I noticed that the new type of retromutagen ooze is nothing but a slime called,"sliquid" you can buy at Walgreens. It is available in many colors and it has that same metallic shine and odor. This is the EXACT formula for both items. I hope that helps you all if you ever need a refill.:tgrin:

Wonder if we'll get some more ooze with the new toyline?

I've got some 2K3 Mega Blocks ooze, and it's still OK, But then again, I never played with it, I just look in the can every few years. :tsmile:

Oh post some pics please
I can't believe I'm resurrecting a dead thread but here it goes! I just wanted to inform you all that I've made it into the slime making business recently. I never knew slime would make it this big after many years and become this popular! Not too long ago, I came across the traditional LAB GRADE ingredients to make the ooze from the 80s slime pit HeMan.
I made a quick video about it on YouTube and today, I sold it! I can't believe it. I was sent a DM asking about the scent and everything and the buyer paid me 50 bucks for 30ml. Yes, the ooze that I make has that nostalgic scent from the Foot Ooze/retromutagen ooze from the 80s toy line. To those of you needing a refill of the nostalgic goop that marred your carpets and wood dressers, I guess I'm your guy.
I did some digging in some old Pixel Dan videos and found out that there was another guy named Nathan that used to make bank from this trade but I don't hear anything about him anymore. He sent Pixel Dan the real deal to him as a gift for one of his videos. Now, I guess I must step up to the plate to serve toy collectors with the product that Playmates Toys FAIL to re-release! Life is good!

Very cool dude awesome
Thank you. I never knew I was going to get that kind of response after posting that YouTube video. It goes to show you that die hard collectors and toy enthusiasts still exist or there! I was just joking in my video about selling it and someone took it seriously. Go figure! I'm just happy that I was able to help someone accomplish something they have been waiting for. :twink:
