A question about the current comics

Someone told me that in the current comics (tales of tmnt?) that Don is tiny and Raph is a monster.... is this true??

If it is, I'm kind of upset... I like the turtles to be turtles!! I can't believe Peter Laird would allow such a thing :cry:

Can someone clear this up for me and tell me what happened to them?

Also, as Mirage is the epitome of tmnt universes, is this considered canon?

You are thinking of Volume 4...and it is true. Donnie is the size of an action figure and Raph is very large....looks like the GamraDon in the 2k3 series. Leo is in the Battle Nexus and Mikey is somewhere in space.

Raph was bitten by a vampire while Donnie was a mission with the utroms...and some space creature shrunk everyone. Eventually everyone returned to their normal size except for Donnie.

This is volume 4 of the regular TMNT title, which is currently on indefinite hiatus. Unfortunately, this is true.

Can someone clear this up for me and tell me what happened to them?

Raph got bit by some vampire-like creatures and Don got... ok, it's been awhile, but I think he was purposely shrunk to go somewhere and do something, but then he got stuck like that.

jenna, I felt the exact same way you do when I first heard about it. It's not nearly as bad as it sounds because both characters can very easily be returned to normal... if the series ever continues. They were already working on a solution to Raph's second mutation, and the Utroms were still trying to figure out why the device that returned people to normal size wasn't working on Don. In the meantime, Don modified an old robot to move around in that resembles Metalhead from the old cartoon.

There have been "second mutations" in nearly every TMNT universe, and as far as those go, Raph's mutation in Volume 4 is one of the coolest, in my opinion. It's far better than the "second mutation" silliness that happened in the last seasons of the old cartoon.

The whole thing is actually written pretty well, and as silly as the concept may sound, it's executed pretty seriously, and never feels too cheesy (at least by TMNT standards). Gameraph is actually really cool. He still looks like a turtle, just a really big one with small horns. He even had a tussle with Leatherhead in the sewers which I thought was pretty darn cool.

Peter really needs to start up Volume 4 again once the revamped tv show settles down. The pace started to pick up a bit after Splinter died, and it got really, really good by the time it ended. For crying out loud, Mike could potentially become some sort of general for the Triceratons! I don't care who you are -- if you like anything about the Triceratons, then you have to admit that is pure awesomeness. :thyper:

yeah, a few changes here and there are cool. It doesn't mean they'll be permanent. That's how most comics work. Changes like these LAST a while before it goes back to normal, if ever. In cartoons it's like 'oh look, someone has a new girlfriend, well she leaves at the end of the episode and we never see her again, oh well'. Comic don't work that way.

City at War in the show was only 3 episodes long and for all we know only lasted a week or so. In the comics, the City at War was 13 issues long and was happening for months.

In other media, when Spiderman first got the symbiote costume, he wore it for several issues, not just 2 episodes like the cartoon. Hell, even when he got rid of it, Black Cat made him a normal clothes version of the black spiderman outfit and Spiderman kept that for quite a while before goin back to the red and blue.

Back to turtles, in the Archie comics, Raph also acquired an all-black outfit and liked it so much he kept it for quite a few issues before he came back in the regular red straps and bandana look. Mondo Gekco lived with the turtles for a while before he joined the Mighty Mutinamals. Raph had a girlfriend named Ninjara that lived with them for almost the entire second half of the series before the break-up.

So yeah, Don is tiny, Raph is Gameraph, Leo's in Battle Nexus and Mike might or might not have lil dinosaur babies. Very different, but it won't last forever. Just enjoy the ride while it lasts and get ready for the next adventure.

At least it's better than the TMNT being mutilated like the IMAGE versions...

Yes, there is a current Tales of the TMNT. It's stories are sort-of 'past events' (detailing things inbetween some previous stories, etc.).

Yup, Tales just fills in the gaps. From what I've heard, Peter doesn't want anyone touching the turtles' immediate future. Because of that, I expect that he plans on returning to TMNT eventually.

Thank you so much for clearing that up for me. I hope they get changed back to normal in the future. I think in the meantime, I'll give Volume 4 a miss... not dissing it at all, just I think I'm much more in tune with the turtles when they are in their most renowned form :)
