Oh man, they've gotten all anime super deformed.

Still, I love Toddler Turtle stories for reasons I cannot understand. They need their proper toddler turtle bandanas, though.

MAN, I love Tales!

Yippee! Toddler Turtles! Can't get enough of them!

I am confused as to why the regular bandannas instead of the toddler ones.

Wonderfulll let's just waste more time making short parts of the episode of 2k3 into issues of the mirage books...
And lord I really hope the toddler turtles aren't as annoying and buck toothed as they where in the lost season.:dead:

Yeah, they should have skullcaps, and their kneepads and such should have the round plastic caps.

Should be good fun, though.

My scan is from Big Bang Comics #10. We also see Oroku Saki with a girlfriend (or at least a fling)

That's a fairly good assesment I'd say, just judging from the expressions on their faces. Using your examples, Leo looks adventurous/smug, Raph is brooding way early for his age, and Mikey looks as playful as ever.

I am confused as to why the regular bandannas instead of the toddler ones.
Heeeeyyy... you know, that's a good point... :ohwell:

But yeah. This looks too cute.

im surprised no one has mentioned "tales of the tmnt volume 2 issue #25" that had a mini story of the toddler tmnt.

where toddler mikey is drawing comics of himself as a a normal human child interacting topside. at first splinter scolds him cause he cant have such thoughts, but then discovers there is potential to it and supports his drawing hobby

pic from that toddler story i just mentioned here-

They didn't say it was leathered...it's not good to asume things because you'll just set yourself up for a disappointment.
I mean hell if it is him well I say color me suprised because I bet you anything they are just going to turn that small segment from the 2k3 cartoon where leo and raph meet that giant white gator in the sewers into an issue of tales.

CylonsKlingonsDaleksOhMy
05-25-2007, 12:41 PM
Yeah, but some white croc isn't unique. And, Leatherhead mutated about the same time as the TMNT (I would suppose), and became a member of the Utroms' family. We also know that the Utrom TCRI security guys ran patrols in the sewers from time to time. (Two TCRI workers found the injured Splinter in the sewers in TMNT Vol. 1, #3.)

I think it likely that the Utroms would allow Leatherhead to mosey around the sewers occasionally, and I also think it likely that LH could have run into the TMNT before the events of Tales of the TMNT (Vol. 1) #6.

I rest my case, and I'll bet you a mango it's Leatherhead.

no thanks mangos are disgusting...and It just wouldn't make sence really was leaterhead even remotly created the same time the turtles had been?
I just dont like how much of 2k3 is being turned into part of the mirage world.
I like having everything being differnt worlds.
And Leatherhead is a crock isn't he not a gator? so thats why I don't think it's him because they say gator not crock.*shruggs*
I mean hell I'd be happy if it was him but I think it would screw up the story quite a bit.
Sort of like how I dont really want to know rat kings history I like him not having a story it adds so much to his character.:dead:

I like the cartoon following the comics, but I don't want the comics following the cartoon, so I agree with you.

As for croc or gator, I have no idea which Leatherhead is. I wonder if Mirage even knows.

And as for Rat King, I suspect that Tales #35 won't be able to do justice to his character. Rat King is an enigma. He always was an engima. If they explain him, they will take away from his character.

Unless of course they pull off something really surprising. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I feel the same way, too.

However, I think it's a bit early to assume this issue actually does have anything to do with the 2K3 series.. so I'd wait to pass judgment on it until we've actually read it.

Did he not say he started his life as an exotic pet that was flushed carelessly down the toilet? Yeah he did. Not to mention the gator in the sewer was like the size of the sewer tunnel they were fighting it in. And don't tell me "It looked bigger cause they were small" That's BS. If that gator had mutated LH would have been freaking giant. And he's not much bigger then the TMNT and they were palm sized when they mutated.

LH is a gator, he used to say it all the time in the old series*I know loosely based on the comics still* I think it says he's an alligator in the Mirage comics even.

Reading the comics and paying attention really helps you.

yep thats all we can ever do...and speculate...lots and lots of nice speculation.
But yeah it's gonna take allot away from him and with the archie team doing the issue and it looking like archie rat king its gonna make me think of this being the tale of archie rat kings story not mirage...does anyone else feel this way?

I hated the 2k3 version of the Rat King, it took away all the mythical and spiritual elements from his character, and made him a Frankenstein's monster.

I'm sick of all these issue's with cowboys and now cute toddler turtles, I want some bloody grittiness, with maybe some human villains for a change.

I hated the 2k3 version of the Rat King, it took away all the mythical and spiritual elements from his character, and made him a Frankenstein's monster.

But that's how he pretty much was originally presented in the comics. In fact, the only name we're really given is "The Monster," and in that first appearance in "Tales of the TMNT" Vol. 1, he also seemed to indicate the "character" he plays often changes daily ("This year... I'll be the Monster!" or something somesuch, implying last year and next year he might be something else). He became more of a spiritual presence (actually, pretty literally) in "City at War" to Splinter.

His profile, from Palladium's really, really fascinating "Transdimensional Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" sourcebook :

Try Palladium's official website. THEY still carry TMNT RPG books, although it's mostly just the "After the Bomb" ones. (A member over at the Palladium forums said that the license that they had for TMNT ran out in 2000, and that it would be a long time, if ever, if it was renewed.)

You can, however, check the "Classifieds" section of the forums. There's a member who has TMNT books for sale for cheap. The ad/post says that they're "beat up", but that's a relative term. They may NOT be in the best shape, but according to what I read, they ARE intact. You just have to check them out.

Good hunting.

Sadly I can't look to make sure since most of my comics are back in los angeles and i'm traveling at the moment.
But I very well could be wrong but something just doesn't settle right with me and this story. I'll wait to pass full judgement untill it comes out.
But does anyone else think it odd that Leatherhead never said anything to the turtles about meeting them as children in the other issues.

Here we go: the newspaper clipping Marlin reads indicates that Leatherhead is a gator, as would the illustrations later on (crocs being more streamline, less weighty). Leatherhead's origin is never dated, and he simply states that he was an exotic pet. He says that he used to wander off for days exporing the sewers until one day he came home and found the building gone (post Fugitoid saga). So Leatherhead could well have been around for far longer than anyone suspects. His origins are pretty vague, and it's likely that in his earlier days of mutation, his aggression and animal instinct are likely to be the dominent nature, not the learned intellect he now (or as of Tales vol1 #6) possesses. Who knows, the issue isn't out for a while, there may be some sort of explanation in the book itself...

At least in the OT, since that's the only place where I have seen Leatherhead:

Does he come from the Florida Everglades or from the Louisiana Bayou? From what he said, he mentioned both. Did he spend time in both places?

No the old doesnt isnt anything like the mirage comics.
He was with the utroms who they loosely based krang off of so imagine an entire race of those lil guys.
And Leatherhead they found in the sewer and kept him as a pet and he got mutated wondering around their labs.

So he's not originally a scientist named Jess who is either a Cajun or a Florida Cracker then? He started as an alligator.

Leatherhead was never a scientist when he started out in the old toon or archie comics which where based on the toon.
Anyways yes he was always a gator or crock or either one lol in the mirage comics from the start.
The mutagen in the comics is allot differnt than it was in the cartoon also.

Scandia

Where in the world did I get this misinformation from?

The Wikipedia article says that in the Archie comics he does start out as a Jess Harley who lived in the swamp. Nothing about his being a scientist. Dunno where I got that from- other than perhaps by the pairings with Donatello.

Holy guacamole.

Mirage and 2K3: Leatherhead is a gator roaming the sewers, adopted as a pet by the Utroms. He later comes in contact with the mutagen and becomes the gnarly character we know and love today. He is indeed a scientist of sorts, as he is very brilliant.

Old school toon: Leatherhead is a gator in the Florida Everglades, mutated in the same episode as the "Punk Frogs". He fits Cajun stereotypes.

Archie comics: Jess Harley was cursed to become "the Leatherhead", a half-man, half-gator beast, by the swamp witch Mary Bones. Also fits Cajun stereotypes.

An interesting storyline we never got to see (entirely) in the Image Volume 3 was how the mutagen was slowly breaking down in Leatherhead's body, that he was slowly devolving (and Laird kinda followed up on this, wittingly or unwittingly in Vol. 4) into a more animal-like being, perhaps even back into a normal croc.

And with that happening to Leatherhead, it would begin breaking down similarly in the Turtles as well...

Anybody know what "Triptyche" means? Strange title.

As for the defective mutagen in Volume III, this was what was going to cure the Turtles of their scars and injuries. (Raph's eye, Leo's hand, and Don's cyborg armor.)

How does Volume IV follow that?

i know volume 3 is not seen as part of the comic series, but i think it would be cool if they did at least one issue of the tales of the tmnt volume 2 to wrap up a few loose ends in volume 3.

i mean look at everything that has been popping up in the tales of the tmnt volume 2. heck they even let the moo mesa cowboys show up in two issues and they dont have anything to do ninja turtles.

it will probably not happen but it would make an interesting issue non the less.

I've also been doing some thinking about leatherhead in general now that all of this is coming about.
Ok in the issue leatherhead too (or two i can't remember) Leatherhead is with the foot ninjas we splinter almost training sans Hamato Yoshi's Niece.
Now this had me wondering also now which issue takes place at what point in the time line because i thought she killed the other foto ninjas but I could be wrong what with the way Jim lawson draws and all I couldnt tell is the masks she handed splinter had been coverd in blood.
But is she does kill them that would mean the leatherhead issue takes places before the story in tales vol.2 #34
And it would mean that the turtles have seen these guys before but I dont think they mention seeing them before in either issue so that has left me a bit puzzled.
Just something to think about.

And I really love the art but I have to say I'm not happy to see Leatherhead looking all out of his gord at this early stage he didn't start acting all wild like that untill later on...In fact I'm kind of botherd by this entire Leatherhead being around when the turtles are toddlers thing...:ohwell: I'm sure I'm gonna be alone on this though.

How so? Leatherhead's past is something that was never really discussed in a great deal of detail, and there's so much about the character that can be explored. It always read to me that Leatherhead was around long before the Turtles (well, maybe not TOO long at least...)

I, too, find it entirely plausible that LH was around before the TMNT mutated.

*ahem* and I said he wasn't a raving lunatic untill much later the character didn't spazz out untill the foot tricked him and he then hated the turtles because he thought they did it.
I'm not saying he couldfn't have been mutated before that but when the Utroms found him in the sewer he was just a baby not a full grown.
This is what's bothering me look back to his first apearance in tales volume one for both things I'm talking about.
He's almost pretty much the size he was in these drawings that he was when we first meet him in tales volume one.:|

Okay, I can see where you're coming from, but hear me out...

Remember, we've only seen a couple of pages. We have no idea whether Leatherhead is all riled up, or for what reason (if he is). All we can see in this is that he's swimming. He may look mean and nasty, but any eight foot tall alligator mutant probably would. Paul's visuals of the Turtles themselves in my issue made them look pretty mean, even when they were just standing around.
However, it could be any number of things IF he is pissed off - maybe he doesn't like intruders, maybe there's another party involved that we haven't seen yet, maybe he's just having a bad day.

I've seen it before with Fast Forward, and I see it far too often on a lot of message boards these days -- just wait until the issue's out, don't judge it just yet :)

I doubt the writers will contradict themselves. They might do stuff we don't like very well (like they've done with April), but I don't think they've ever completely contradicted themselves.

Even with Volume 3, which is noncanon, they've never contradicted it. They've ignored it, though, of course. Same way with some of the noncanon Tales and even some of the screwed-up Volume 1 issues.

Well, it's cool and all that you get what I'm saying but I didn't just list one reason I listed a few.
I know we've only seen a few pages and it's pretty funny to flat out compare me to a straight out Fast Forward complainer when I've been one of the only few people who stood up for the show I don't list just bad things I list good and bad things unlike some people I share all of my emotions and I don't sugar coat crap.
Also I'd say it's quite a large difference from someone saying they don't like what they see in a single issue of a comic rather than saying basing an entire show off of one episode.
I'm not saying I don't dislike Tales or anything like that but So far I'm bothered by the story.
And yes we've only see a few Leatherhead stories sure and each one has been consistent with the next.
He just seems a bit older to me than he should be next to the baby turtles.
That's the point I'm really getting at here he just seems a little bit to old for the time period. I know it's just a comic and all and it's nothing to get all angry over which I'm not btw just trying to make points.
But Mirage has more often than not always had things in order even if some of the stories where not placed in the same times they've gone back and connected them It's what I really like about TMNT is that it has continuing stories.
Leatherhead is an awesome character and I'd really hate to see his story get screwed up like so many others as of late.
And I think half the time and I mean no offense by this btw but you guys only stick up for the things they do all of the time without the single bit of constructive criticism is because you work with them.
I'd hope an artist can take a bit of constructive criticism about their work if they can't then perhaps they should stick to doing fan art.
I really don't see what my opinions and worries about a character I love are doing to hurt anyone so much that everyone needs to get all defensive.

Sorry, I didn't mean to single you out like that. It was more of a general statement about the mentality SOME people adopt that I was referring to. it's often the same with films, people saying it's going to be arse based simply on a 30 second teaser.

Also I'd say it's quite a large difference from someone saying they don't like what they see in a single issue of a comic rather than saying basing an entire show off of one episode.

Ah, okay, this is what I thought you were driving at, and I should've made note of that in the previous post, which is also what I was driving at when I said Leatherhead had an uncertain past. I just thought that, given how long the Utroms would have been in NY to have established their little disguise (the building and everything), Leatherhead really could have been mutated before Hamato Yoshi even arrived in NY.

No offense taken, and it's a perfectly valid way of thinking. Sure, there are issues that I may not like as much as others, but I haven't even read this issue yet, nor do I know anything more than anyone else here. As a freelancer, the only thing I'm aware of is what I've put into my own issue, but I've always been of the mind that one should wait until something is actually out. A lot of the times I get the "I told you so!" response (Aliens VS Predator was something I said "It might be crap, but it might be good, so just wait until it's out before crucifying it"... Good lord, I was wrong on that one...), but it's just my way of thinking. So your opinions are cool, and this is the perfect place to voice them, but in the same respect, others are likely to voice an opposite opinion. As I said, I like to keep an open mind to things, which means balancing the good and the bad, and seeing as the worries are there, I thought I'd post the POSSIBLE positives. It's not meant so much as a defensive move, more as one of balance - I'm sure even those thinking absolutely positively about the story would have factored in any possible problems with the issue.

Dario snuck a bunch of art from this issue into his blog and I don't think I've seen it reported anywhere.

You can check it out here (http://dario-brizuela.blogspot.com/2007/08/tmnt.html), here (http://dario-brizuela.blogspot.com/2007/08/tmnt-pencils.html), and here (http://dario-brizuela.blogspot.com/2007/08/tmnt-inks.html).
