View Full Version : What am I remembering?

Back when we were small children in the early 90s, my brother got a gift of a subscription to what I'm going to call a magazine. I know he actually got several issues of this thing, but I can only really remember one, and even that's horribly vague. What I remember are the turtles trick or treating, which was probably interrupted somehow. That's all I've got. I seem to recall this magazine containing games such as mazes, too. Everything was lighter fare, nothing dark.
What was this? Was there a TMNT magazine, or did he get a subscription to one of those comics from that time?

There was a TMNT magazine, which sounds like what you're remembering.
I can post some pics in a bit.

yeah I had a subscription, the covers were my sig for awhile. I got asked about it a lot. See my little mailing subscription corner tags. I wish I had more but I was not a very careful child

There were about 15 issues, published quarterly from 1990-1993. All issues featured fantastic, brand new artwork by Michael Dooney. :tthumbsu: :tthumbsu: :tthumbsu:

A letter of mine was posted in (I believe) the Fall '93 issue. ^^

Nice!! When I was looking through 'em recently I read all the names seeing if there was anyone I knew now, although I didn't recognize any.

That's because nobody knows what moniker I used in that issue

Oh, thank goodness! I was really starting to doubt myself. Although I was young, I knew the difference between a comic book and a magazine. :-) Thanks, all!
I don't remember any of those covers. They seem to be darker than I would have guessed. I could have been totally oblivious. How does it compare in terms of tone?

The inside is pretty bubble gum compared to the covers. Dooney did all the cover work AND pullout poster artwork that was in the center of each issue (although at least one issue featured art by Peter Laird), but those were pretty stand alone. There was a comic story in each issue and I think all of those were by Jim Lawson in his cartoony style and then there was usually an article about kids biking or rollerblading where they would draw turtles into the pictures (this wasn't by any Mirage artist, though - whoever did this sometimes gave the Turtles FOUR fingers, which was beyond bizzare).

:-) Maybe this barely remembered magazine affected me more than I realized. Watching the turtles again in my renewed enthusiasm, I was surprised that they only had 3 fingers.

I loved that magzine as a kid. I still have some of the posters from it.
