Besides the fact that the 4kids toon hasn't ended, TMNT is a property that will probably be relaunched every decade or so.

I can see a third TMNT cartoon being made sometime in the far future. Of course by that time Peter Laird will be in like his late 60's, so who knows what it would be like.

Next Mutation was in production a year after the original series ended, so yeah, even if 4Kids drop the ball, it can be picked back up again by somebody else and aired quickly, it just depends on what damages the franchise the most long-term that really keeps it down longer.
