Oh and it's cool to be a member of this place now!!
4 against 3, the turtles will obviously win a fight.
Voted. I'm participated in numerous VS topics but this one seems like such a no brainer.

voted, how could they lose to biker mice from mars? those guys are wash ups compared to the turtles! If they wanted a challenge, i would have said street sharks may provide better.

^ Considering they are a total turtle rip off.
Weren't the turtles a kind of parody of something else though? What were Laird and Eastman ripping when they created our green guys?

I believe it was a combination of the Marvel Mutant genre (X-Men, Spiderman, Fantastic Four, etc) and the Frank Miller Urban Ninja genre (Daredevil, Ronin).
The cover of TMNT Issue #1 is in the same exact style of one of the issues of Ronin:

And the Foot is a parody of "The Hand" who were a ninja clan in Daredevil.
I'm sure there are some other similarities that people more familiar with comics can point out.
ETA: Does Donatello have a sword strapped to his back on that cover?! I never noticed that before!

Or Swat Kats...as they have many things that go "Boom!" already handy. And they don't seem to do too badly out of the jet either...especially Razor...

Splinter was a parody of Daredevil's mentor, Stick. Right?

Stick is actually Hamato Yoshi's long lost brother, Hamato, um, Stick... :tanime:
Seriously, though, I think you're right. At least, that's what I've heard. Wasn't Shredder supposed to be a parody of someone too, or was he just based off a generic image of a ninja villain? I think those are all the similarities. The series rapidly switched gears and quit being a parody after the first issue.
Great catch, Janus. I've never seen Don with a sword on his back like that, but there it is, plain as day. I wonder if he wears one in the first issue and we just didn't notice it? I doubt it, though.
