View Full Version : If they do make a new TMNT cartoon...

Rumors have it that soon they'll wrap up Fast Forward and make a new TMNT cartoon in 08 based on the movie.

If they do... where exactly will they go with this?? I mean, the movie is already kinda/sorta based on the Mirage comics roots. So I mean... what would they do with the new show? Have them fight the Triceratons.. again?? Have the Foot kick the livin crap out of Leo, and later have Leo behead the Shredder... again??? I mean... all I can see them doing is making them have the newer movie-ish designs for April, Casey and Karai and maybe have Raph run around as the Nightwatcher from time to time.

What rumors are you speaking of?

CyberCubed

Oy, this really is getting out of hand.

While everything is speculation, they're probably not going to turn the cartoon "into" the movie. They're most likely going to keep the established 2k3 storylines and characters but have influence from the movie brought in, possibly changing the animation style to suit that, and maybe bringing in some movie plots like having Raph become the Nightwatcher.

But then again this is all guesswork, so let's keep waiting. Fast Forward was also considered a "new series" but maintained continuity with 2k3, another "new series" does not have to be a fresh start either.

Yes.

No one knows anything right now. Just sit and wait. If you want to speculate, there's plenty floating around if you look for it.

Yes, they may have been dark. BUT they kept the same character designs. They did not introduce a new villain- Karai had shown up already. April has not changed jobs. I have not seen all that much of seasons 4 and 5, but there seem to be no major changes in them like there was with the Red Sky seasons in the OT.

If a new TMNT cartoon will be made, I think they should take the best from the many TMNT versions (1984 Mirage Comics, 1987 cartoon, 1988 Archie TMNT Adventures comics, 1990-1993 movies, 2003 cartoon and 2007 movie) a make a new TMNT version. But a questeon is: Should it be set in the 1980's, with a more classical TMNT feel, or today (in a more globalized world, with more technology).

ToTheNines
06-23-2007, 09:02 AM
Why would they throw in all former turtle-verses, that would be genereic? Also, there was plenty of technology in the 80's toon.

I don't think it would be generic I think it would be rather interesting is it's an anything goes type of place why restrict yourself to one world when the turtles have so many. Why not tak the best from all worlds instead of holding yourself to one.

Scandia

That's what I do- take the best of all worlds.

In fact, there is nothing preventing April in the NT to get a new job as a reporter. Or preventing Keno from showing up in the NT. Or from having April and Casey adopt an abandoned baby and naming her Shadow- although I think Angel may be the NT's equivalent of Shadow.

I don't know what else they can add with a new TMNT series, honestly. I'd say if anything continue 2k3, because a whole new show seems kinda pointless to me until they have a good reason to start again. Each version had something new to offer:

Mirage comics: Original appearance
'80s-90s cartoon: First TV appearance, kickstarted a lucrative franchise and introduced the concept to kids
Movies: Reconciling OT and comics on the big screen
Next Mutation: Live action on TV, plus a chance to play with a 5th female Turtle (which I'll admit had potential, even though I dislike the idea of female Turtles meeting the guys)
2k3 cartoon: Back on the air, with a chance to adapt comic stories and have a darker tone
Fast Forward: Shiny future weapons and backing away from being too dark (as much as I think this was unnecessary)
2k7: First official CG Turtles with the opportunity to take advantage of the filmmaking possibilities the medium offers, (some would say failed) attempt to bring even more comic-book tone to the Turtles
New TMNT cartoon: ???

Unless they were going to take the plunge and deliver a more mature 'toon that doesn't feel like it has to keep itself safe for kids, or have something drastic happen (like Splinter's death) that will change everything and spawn new stories... what else is there to do right now? A whole new series while there's still one currently going on and one that only finished a year ago... it's way too soon unless everything is gonna be fresh.

And that... is what I think about that. :trazz:

one of the things they got to do with this new series, bring back those awesome visuals! The best example the Leo/Shredder fight, the rain and lighting, and all that...awesome visuals.
I would like to see more detailing, better coloring and more correct shell design where it just doesnt look like it's this dome thing stuck to their back but with bridges making it look APART of their body. If they base this one the new movie look, they should cos they have always had bridges in all of the movies.
Hopefully the humans don't look anime-ish. I loved our heros look, I didn't care for the people in the movie. Too stylised and anime-ish; but in a way that was good cos the guys looked totally normal

TMNT is one of the few shows keeping 4kidsTV afloat, that's why 4kids is giving it another chance, (or is this the third chance?), rather than throwing in the towel.

Yeah, there were three parts of a Ninjara story printed in issues 47, 48 & 50 of Furrlough (pics here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/roseangelo/446889192/in/set-72157600037600576/) and here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/roseangelo/446889548/in/set-72157600037600576/)). Judging by the fact that Peter Laird rejected whatever 4kids proposed to him for the new series, I'm guessing he does want the show to simply revert back, or at least close to, the 2k3 format.

It really makes you wonder what he rejected, maybe it was a restart in continuity and he didn't want that? Or an all CGI show and he didn't want to do ahead with that either?

Either way, it seems to me that Laird is aware of the mistake he made by allowing them to go ahead with FF, and this time he's being extra cautious to not make the same mistake again. Here's hoping the show just gets renamed to "TMNT," keeps in continuity with Seasons 1-5 AND FF, and simply shows the Turtles returning to their normal time and just continuing from there. Its just the best way to do it and keep everyone happy.

Revan
06-25-2007, 12:58 PM
Was it's Laird's decision to go to FF or was that the last option?
I thought 2k3 was losing money and FF was a last shot at success. Then the new movie hit and all of a sudden there is a new interest in tmnt so now we may get another season after FF.

Here's a thought:

Let's say the Turtles fix the time window and are about to head home, but Cody accidentally sends them back to their time but puts them 5 years past since they were gone. For example let's say a few years past since they were gone rather than being sent back to the exact moment they left.

That way when the TMNT return to New York, April/Casey's lives will have moved on without them for 5 years, and maybe that way they can introduce a baby Shadow into the series?

The cartoon would definitely alter Shadow's backstory because its too adult for the cartoon, so what if they made Shadow April/Casey's actual daughter in the show instead of adoptive daughter? We already know Cody exists so apparently this April is not a "drawing" like Mirage April and can reproduce.

I think the Turtles coming back in time and discovering that April/Casey have a daughter together would be a nice shocker, and a neat way to introduce Shadow into the current cartoon.

ToTheNines
06-30-2007, 01:07 PM
How is Shadows back-ground too adult? Alot can happen in 5 years, April and Casey could be separated when the turtles get back, and they can gradually get back together through-out the season.

Scandia
06-30-2007, 01:08 PM
They could do that. Or they could adopt Shadow in another way. I somehow thought Angel was the NT equivalent of Shadow.

They have a really good thing going on with the NT. They have adapted Mirage quite well. So they should just send them back to regular time and keep on producing the Mirage based episodes. The more I watch the OT, the more I think the NT is a good thing that really should not be ended prematurely. I can deal with FF. I do not think I could deal with the equivalent of TNM.

ToTheNines
06-30-2007, 01:10 PM

Bingo. The fact that modern New York in Vol. 4 can absolutely not be modern New York of the real world is one of the top items in my checklist of issues with Vol. 4. And that is why I don't mind the TMNT walking around in daylight in FF but I do mind it in Vol. 4.

What I mean is that I do not want to see a fifth Mutant Ninja Turtle, male or female, that would join the family/team and fight along with them.

Nor do I want to see a completely total new direction or a bizarre plot pulled out of nowhere that is kept in the main continuity. A "Red Sky" equivalent would be passable as long as it stays faithful to Mirage. Another TNM would NOT be.

Somewhere on Wikipedia it says that Shadow was the product of a one night stand between Gabrielle and a guy named Albert who was the son of a mafioso named Antoine.

One night stand is not a synonym for rape.

Does it state officially that Shadow was the result of non-consensual sex?

It can be worked around that Casey and April meet a woman named Gabrielle who is about to give birth or who has a newborn but who dies shortly afterwards. Casey and April decide to raise Shadow this way. Sad, but nowhere near as controversial.

... And that is why one should not be relying on Wikipedia for information. Especially TMNT information. Most should-be reliable real sources of journalism can't write an accurate article on the TMNT; fake journalism is only going to be worse.
