Archie or Mirage

Im thinking of getting TMNT comics. Should I get the Mirage ones or Archie? Which are better? Isnt archie based off the old cartoon? And the Mirage is darker. How many comics are in the 2 series?

Archie started as a spinoff of the cartoon, but then it evolved into a WONDROUS epic of its own.... :D Its kiddish at the beginning, but it gets SO much better... :)

Archie stopped mid story #72, at "the early years" when the guys were lil and first got their weapons...! :D

Depends what you want. Archie is a childrens comic and Mirage is for young adults. Well the archie got little darker by the end of the series.

I love my archies, but there's also parts of Mirage i like, like one ofteh Turtle Soups i have....it all depends on YOUR tastes, not what other people say it is... ;)

It depend what you want. Serious Plots with action, or humoristic adventures.

well, mirage vol. 2 has color, hehe

the archie series starts off very kiddie-fied, but it "matures" somewhat as the series evolved. it got more action oriented and less goofiness, while still being kid-oriented.

mirage was made more for adults, so theres more blood and seriousness, and swearing here and there throughout. i dont think there's anything in these tho that i would be freaked out by if i was a parent. its nothing worse than what they see on daytime tv, or on the news.

Yes Mirage is done with style. There is no gore and it is not overly violent.

Archie was also quite well done, as it matured...also had some VERY Mirage caliber events happen in it, IMO...like the blindsight series, and the Year of the turtle...but that my opinion... :D

The problem for me is that I much prefer Archie's characters over the Mirage characters, but I prefer Mirage's darkness, art, plots, and dialogue over the "kiddified" Archie stuff.

I strongly suggest getting Mirage. It's the original and IMHO the best. It's also what the new series, first movie, and the Dreamwave comic (most likely) will be based on. Mirage is quite dark, violent, serious, with strong characters; but it also has a great sense of humor and fun.

I always found the Archie books more to my taste, but they were also the only ones I ever read until like two years ago. Stores in my area never carried the Mirage book when it was out, and only one or two have TMNT back issues. Well, just one now... I cleaned out the other place 8)

Of course, thanks to the wonders of Ebay and back issue hunting, I now have almost every issue of every Turtles series! :D

So do what I did if you can and get both. You can't go wrong, it's TMNT.

In Germany we only had Archie #1-31 and Mirage #1-11 + the Leonardo-Microseries. :cry: :cry: :cry:
However, I loved Mirage!! I really felt betrayed, when I first read one of them, because it was so different (and so much better IMO) than what I have thought to be the original TMNT. I also loved Archie though, it was like a more serious version of the cartoon with real plot (a bit like the new cartoon). Unfortunately, the German translations of both were cancelled very soon.
