Should the Turtles be CGI or live action characters???

I think CGI because then you won't have any costume seems and the mouths could move more fluidly and show more expression.

both half c.g.i and half live action

Live action. Mainly because is has already been accompolished in the first TMNT movie. That movie is simply amazing for the Turtles costumes and such.

Yeah, those movies Shrek and Monster's Inc flopped badly :)

I like a mixture. CG Turtles (ale Golum) mixed with real humans.

Hehe, can't forget that flop Toy Story as well! :D

I would like to see the costumes from TMNT I make a reappearance.

I'd like another live action movie, but not with the costumes from TMNT III :goofygri:

LOL, kids today and their cgi^_^ Its the reason why the new Star Wars suck, why the new versions of the *old* Star Wars now suck...cgi is the biggest crutch today...when used right its brilliant. But its overused so much, and folks have been weened on it so much, that now people expect it. Its a shame the art of puppetry and animatronics have given way to lifeless cgi. Sure it works great on the LOTR films, but take a look at the old Star Wars trilogy versus the new. Nothing beats the flavor of the organic style.

All in all, I'd be sick to my stomach if a live action TMNT film used 'cgi' turtles...weve already seen that mishap done in Kangaroo Jack and Rocky and Bulwinkle. Bottom line, if its live action, SUITS are the only way to go.

Just look at the first TMNT...that has to be one of the most astonishing films Ive ever seen...and the BEST damn comic to movie translation ever.

Yes the first Movie is great, But you can see how the costumes limit movements. With CGI there would be no limitations. But of course, it's been over 12 years, Maybe today they can make lighter suits.

I vote for live action, no CGI.

And Star Wars does not suck.

I'd vote for live action with CGI touchups. I agree that CGI's being used way too much when it doesn't have to be. To create a rain effect on a window in a live action scene? That's a bit overkill. A hose coulda done that and cost about $5 and looked better.

Plus costumes and puppetry have advanced as much as CGI. I always liked the costumes (excluding TMNT III) better than animation or CGI.

That's for certain Karpo. Episode 2 is complete nonsensical garbage. I'd also say that Jedi half sucks and is half great. Quite a dynamic (lol).

I'd like to see some CGI components in a new TMNT movie. The turtle costumes from the first movie were great. Splinter on the other had was horrible. He would have to be in CGI. Also I think some CGI enhanced facial expressions on the Turtles could work.

Yeah I think they can make much lighter suits today than they could 12 years ago. It is probably the best way to go.

Ok, so Star Wars semi-sucks.

Or you could say that Episodes 1 and 2 are not part of "real Star Wars" of course at the same scale neither would be Return of Jedi.

I would still like to see cgi, mainly because the turtles were orginally shorties, even in the cartoon, measuring up to only a little past Apirl's waist. CG is the only way you can get them to be that small and still make them exibit some true ninja-like speeds and agility. The suits in part 1 were awsome, but very sluggish compared to, say Spiderman's agility when they used a CG "stunt double"

I dunno. They were short, but none the less, I'd say they looked pretty short still in the movie. April aint that tall and they were about sholder height on her. Nah meeeeean G(sorry, was the last part outta line? :P )

CGI would be ok in certain parts, but not for through the entire movie. I just hope JH crew gets picked for the job to do the fourth movie. PLEASE.

I wan't a combination of suits and animatronics (for little touches like Mikey sticking his tounge out and stuff) CGI has been way overused lately in movies, some films use it well, to inhance the story like LoTR, other films seem to build the entire movie around it.

Prowl
02-03-2003, 07:08 PM
LOL, nah not outta line. They were pretty short, and I always wanted to see these lil' turtles taking on everybody bigger than them. And yeah, I like Spiderman's CG, it wasn't bad, and it didn't not look real. Sometimes people mistake CG not looking real in texture and lighting quality with unatural movement. So if Spiderman is doing something that a man in a costume could not possibly do "Oh, it looks like CG" There were people in the theater when the Final Fantasy trailer was on, and I could hear wispers from people in the know who stated that the movie was CG, and the disbelief expressed by their friends when they realized it was. CG is not the big bad wolf of cinema (overuse of it is). CG removes cables and vibrations caused by puppets, and the more it is perfected, the more real it will become. It is only bashed because it is the "new thing." I think the costumes in TMNT 1 were excellent, because JH shop are masters at what they do, and in the show Farscape, Pilot looks beautiful and moves very fluid. But I can't deny that some of the best CG out there could make the turtles both look and move like they are supposed to: Like Ninjas. Despite how good they looked in the movie, the turtles were sluggish (Donny being the fastest because of Ernie Reyes). Just an opinion of course, but that's why I want real Actors and CG turtles. Maybe costumes for the close ups. I wasn't crazy about Episode 2, but Yoda looked sweet, and his movement during the fight just made me long for some CG turtles.

Yeah, same here. Two Towers is a good example of how this could work. Hopefully that's what Steve Barron meant when he was using a combination of both for the hallmark series

Unless a new TMNT film would be ALL cgi(like the canned John Woo flick) no way in heck would I wanna see cgi TMNT. think about how not so special that would be...I can only point to twodozen cgi cartoon characters against the backdrop of live action to point out how silly it'd be. Suits is the ONLY way to go for live action, period. Thank goodness they didnt touch up the original TMNT movie with cgi, like how they ruined ET and the original trilogy with 'special editions'. As for Star Wars...the original trilogy is breathtaking...I mean just astonishing. The new Episodes? Well episode One was basiclaly a mish mash 'best of' of various scnery fromt he original trilogy, with less than epic action. Episode Two had the epic action, but it was too little too late for audiences. I really think Lucas has lost his audience to the much(I hate to say it) cohesive and jaw dropping LOTR series. Never thought I'd say that. Then again, nothing approaches the coolness of the Matrix trilogy coming forth.

As for aniamtronics and puppetry...Kali's right. there has been great stride in the field. The Jim Henson Company has a lot of new and innovative things they could employ for a new film that would show why suits is the best way to go.

And hey, I liked the original Spinter best in TMNT. So cool how he was a puppet!

So yes, no cgi on the TMNT or other characters in a live action film!

Eye of Sarnath
02-04-2003, 06:03 AM
Yeah, the problem with the miniseries is money, good CGI costs a lot. We don't want fake-looking Turtles, now do we? I don't imagine that would be the problem with a movie though.

You know, how about no cgi or suits? In fact it could be like one of those expressive experimental indie art house films shot in black and white with very little dialogue...and they arent really turtles, but playwrite actors in black turtlenects wearing glasses and bandannas...with the words of the TMNT names on their chests to distinguish them. It'd look lik eone of those late 80's Calvin Klein commercials...yeah, that'd be one way to srttle this argument^_^

Agree with Rez. I did enjoy Episode 2, and Natalie is hot. Anyway, everyone will have their preferences, and niether is wrong. TMNT proves that suits can be done well, and Two Towers proves that CG and live action can be mixed well, if done correctly.

BTW. All Star Wars dialogue sux, we are just more critical to it now....

ie. "But I was going into Toche Station to pick up some Power Converters" Cue whiny voice.

Simple. You grew up with it, and when you were younger, such things didn't stand out as distastefully as they do now. As you grow up with it, you accept them, even quote them, but if these movies came out today, they would contain just as laughable dialogue as the old ones.

Um, not LOTR 1 & 2. Those are perhaps the only fantasy sci fi genre films besides The Matrix I can think of that blew me away like I was a 5 year old in 1983(Seeing the epic Return of the Jedi in theatres) To this day I say
seeing Return of the Jedi(1983) and the first TMNT(1990) were the two DAMN BEST theatre experiences for me. Seeing LOTR 1 and 2 on the big screen was cool.

Yeah, Episode One looke dpretty, but I doubt anyone can say it was even close to the magic of the original. Episode Two had a lot of epic battle scenes...that really cool rain planet, and other stuff. But between the non ending, lots of boring romance and political dialogue, etc...Im not sure a lot of folks bought into it. It was entertaining...I mean it certainly didnt come close to reaching the sheer abomination of Star Trek Nemesis(WORST Trek film EVER!) but still...didnt come close to Jedi either.

seeing Return of the Jedi(1983) and the first TMNT(1990) were the two DAMN BEST theatre experiences for me.

I was around 5 when TMNT one hit theaters, so I don't remember it very well. I know I saw it with a lot of my friends though at a birthday party. I remember TMNT 2 though.
What was it like seeing TMNT 1 in theaters?

back on subject though. I think the only way another movie could be done and stand out, like its been said before, is for them to use suits. Really good CG costs WAY too much money, and lets face it... unless the new cartoon does REALLY well, its not going to have as big of a budget as the first movie. Suits would be the only logical way to go, and of course with JH workshop on board.

I love the star wars prequels, especially part 2, and Return of the Jedi is awesome. The internal conflict that Vader is having in that movie. The scene when Luke turns himself in and tells Vader he can be turned, and Vader is left standing alone in that little hallway on Endor leaning over the railing. You can see and feel his expressions and emotions right through his mask! And when Vader makes his final decision to save his son (AND HIMSELF!), that is one of the all-time greatest jump-out-of-your-seat-and-cheer-for-a-movie-moment movie moments! And the choir in the score when Luke snaps over Vader's comment about Leia! There ain't none of that emotional impact in Episode IV, so saying episode VI is a copy off of IV just cause you read once somewhere Gary Kurtz turned down VI because of that, and you said to yourself "yeah, I guess two death stars is kind of silly" is silly, itself (although two death stars is kind of silly).

Sorry.
Uh... TMNT is cool.

Karpo_007

Sorry you don't know what you are talking about. Lucas didn't like how dark the atmosphere got into Empire, and thats why Gary Kurtz was not involved. and yes 2 deathstars, they could have done something original. They planned to, but Lucas had his way, and Ewoks came in the picture. Still Jedi is a good movie, just not as good as New hope or Empire strikes back.

But the new episodes... Well I don't belive 3 will be any better than 2. Lucas will direct it and write the dialogue. No matter how good special effects it has, it dosen't make it a good movie. I heard that Spielberg wanted to direct one of the new episodes, but Lucas wanted to do them all himself. That could have been a way to save episode 3.

Come on, lighten up! I'll bet you'd do the same if you were in Lucas' position. The reason he's directing everything is because he wants it the way HE dreamed it, not the way some other guy off the street wishes. How would you feel if somebody came up to you and said, "I think your idea is crap. Why don't we throw the idea that you've had since high school and go with my butchered idea?"

Exactly.

And I think ep 3 will blow EVERY SW movie made so far out of the water! Come on people! It'll be the big finish in this sense! You'll see how Palpatine will usurp the Repulic, how he'll wipe out the Jedi, how the Clone Wars will end, how Anakin becomes Darth Vader....it'll be the whole schmeer!

I for one anticipate Episode 3 with much enthusiasm. Every day we get closer to Summer 2005, I'm more excited!
