Yeah Roseangelo brought this up before in one of the threads.
Dan asures me though that they will end FF so I'm gonna take his word for it.
I mean Murphy is pretty much saying the same thing here.
The thing that has me wondering is this line
However, the Fast Forward rebranding/show direction is definitely over after the last 6 episodes air in Fall 2007... and the turtles and Splinter are slated to return home to their "normal" time (or are they?) come 2008.
Very interesting oh and the thing Liard turned down was told to us by Roseangelo to be some along the lines of Pokemon.:dead:

You did see the date and see that this was old news, right?

If you'd have read through the good news/bad news thread, you would have read this (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showpost.php?p=531723&postcount=491).

Pokemon is not a good analogy. Pokemon is actually a video game show that happens to have a card game. Yu-Gi-Oh and Chaotic are straight card game shows and are the better analogy.

Gods yes. I remember seeing the art for the cards in the preview commercials, and I recall thinking to myself "Woah, this might be cool." Then I saw the first episode and I was completely turned off by the show's art, plot, and writing. The only episode that I watched after that was the one the TMNT were on.

Now, it's not fair to dredge up the past. If you'll notice, this past season the only new Japanese anime 4Kids aired was a continuation of Yuugiou... which was actually designed with overseas (meaning outside Japan) markets in mind. In fact, if I remember correctly, the show itself was designed by 4Kids themselves and has yet to air in Japan!

Besides, bashing dubbing companies is so 90's.

Ever heard of Magical DoReMi (http://4kids.tv/magicaldoremi/)? No? It's the girls' anime series 4Kids butchered and killed this year (they seem to pick one every year or two). It's hugely popular in Japan, but went unnoticed over here for several good reasons, all of them 4Kids' fault.

I'm willing to wait for a quality product but thank heavens we wont have to see TMNT-GI-OH like 4kids supposedly wanted.

Seriously ever since Pokemon Cards became popular (they're not so much anymore but I hear people play them more these days) 4kids has had an unhealthy love of card games. I mean honestly... if you make video games based on card games (and lots of 'em) then you're going way to far.

Let me just say...

Card game: Yeah... Yugioh has lost its edge since last year (which is why WB dropped it like a bag of moist garbage) and Chaotix isn't gonna be a hit any time soon, so the natural course of action would be to glom on to a dying fad. That way they'll never lose money.

4Kids anime dubs: Look to your left... look to your right.... what country are you in right now? What country is 4Kids located? That's right... USA. The country with the most rediculous censorship laws outside of a middle Eastern or Comunist bloc country. Of course they'd dance around hacking to pieces Japanese shows... they do the same damn thing to American ones. South park, last Time I checked was rated TV MA... and yet they can't say any swears about Damn and Hell. yet on a live action show same rating... well... it can be hard core porn.

Violence and refferences to death must be chopped out so childless old women don't throw a hissy fit about how damaging it is to kids... meanwhile, such kids get shot to death by a gang of drug dealers or something. "Little Jeffy brought a gun to school!" Who's fault is it? Monkey D Luffy? Bart Simpson? Certainly not the parents.

The 3 things I hate about them are their business sence (seriously? Whomever runs 4Kids needs to go to business school those corrospondance classes aren't working), their removal of oringinal music (I think it has more to do with them being cheap and less to do with filling in pauses) and their idea of shoving odd puns and (dated) low carb jokes every which where. Censorship is not their fault, oddly enough.

But then again, if it wasn't for 4Kids, this site would just be about... "hey Remember Corporate Raiders from Dimension X? That was a great episode!"

We have to take the good with the bad. The only thing I didn't like Vis A Vis Turtles due to 4Kids was Fast Forward... but then again, the idea came from Playmates, who wanted to sell more toys. They just decided on their own to make it childish, probably due to episodes like Insane in the Membrain and Nightmare Recycled.

So while I do not like what they do to anime creators and writers, it's basically the same as what we do to our own creators and cartoonists here. Oh... and add they make room for Loonatics Unleashed and crap thunk up by board room members who had no childhood while they pass on creative new ideas.

Violence and references to death must be chopped out so childless old women don't throw a hissy fit about how damaging it is to kids...

Didn't at least one person die in Captain Planet? That was back in the early 1990s. Ma-ti's father (implied to be Chico Mendes) was killed by someone. Some other boy died of a drug overdose. And yet Captain Planet lasted for six seasons and its legacy still lives on.

Granted, Captain Planet was more aimed at tweens and teens than to little kids. But death is a part of existence. And I do not remember any legitimate protests of this cartoon.

Anyhow, I do not think there is anything horrendously traumatizing about the violence level in 2k3. I did recognize the metaphor in Leo's damaged shell- but a watcher is not going to get shell shock from what happened to the Turtles. I can see some people blowing fuses about the minced oath of "shell" used so much- but it is still not a curse word. My only big objection to anything in the TMNT world was to April and Casey cohabiting in the 2k7 movie- and they still do not show any actual objectionable behavior on screen, so it did not prevent me from loving the movie and falling back into obsession with TMNT.

I'm almost 30 and childfree. I love watching 2k3. I love watching anime. So I hope they do not drop TMNT or bowdlerize it or turn it into another stupid bland thing out of fear of censors from both wings.

Jester

Funny thing, that... they actually got away with death multiple occassions on TMNT 2K3... like the dark alternate future episode... everyone pretty much dies at the end. But maybe that's cuz Peter Laird is over here and can make a stink about it, while Eiichiro Oda (sp) is all the way over in japan and unaware of this. It is a double standard.

But I don't get why they can't refference death in kids cartoons... how in God's name would you explain Casper the Friendly Ghost then?

I could go on and on about this stuff... OOh... we wanna get sex and violence off the street, but since it's too hard, let's go harass creative people, all the while letting sleazy things like Temptation Island or Big Brother on TV. I don't care if it's adult time, they cut and snip adult cartoons as well. Burnes is dating a chick whose like 20 and he's 50 the sexual humor in there. And don't get me started on Vernon's homosexual undertones, he always has something negative to say about women.

And Shredder and Krang act like a married couple who argue all the time and bicker. They talk about how they need one another and make up when their angry at each other.

I'm talking about things like Raph saying "I don't want to stare at Mikey's butt" in the NT and the joke about someone smelling gas and Mikey saying "it wasn't me". Passing gas happens, it's a biological function. No need to make jokes about it. Many viewers write their ages using two digits and thus have gotten past that stage.

Puns and word plays are a totally different subset. And to me Vernon is more metrosexual than anything else.

And as I have said before, Irma is NOT a nerd in any way. She seems more concerned with socializing and dating men than with academics or hobbies.

I have yet to be curious enough enough to go look up that word...

And, I agree about Irma. She may have a nerdy appearance, but they made it plainly obvious that she wasn't all too bright. In this case, the term is being used metaphorically. One needn't be a nerd to be nerdy and the like. Lack of social graces and fashion sense make Irma nerdy.

odupianist

The references are all in what you make of it. I mean all cartoons have some subtle adult humor. You know why? Cause the parents should be watching the cartoons with the kids. You know, that crazy thing called parenting.

Ex. I was watching Rocko's Modern Life a few months ago. Mr. Bighead asked Rocko if he wanted to come bowl with him. Rocko said no thanks and that they were playing their own game. Camera pans to Fil and Hef at the table, holding ping pong paddles, with a board game that had a spinning monkey bending over. Kids won't notice it, but it's there for the parents.

Vernon being metrosexual? "Metrosexual" wasn't even a term in the 80's. It's a term that was recently created for stupid shows like "Queer Eye" and **** like that. It's a term that basically tells guys it's okay to act like girls and not manly men like Sean Connery and John Wayne and other cool manly men lol

Drtooth
07-18-2007, 07:39 AM
I love when they stuff funny innuendo in stuff like that... my favorite is during the Bullwinkle "Wossamotta U" story arc, when Fearless Leader disguises a gang of thugs to look like girls so they can jack up the betting odds against Wossamotta U...

Rocky: What kind of game can you play with girls?

Bullwinkle: Boy, this really is a kid's show, isn't it? Parcheesi of course!

Irma alsways struck me as the kind of woman who dates the wrong men, doesn't take pride in her appearance and wonders why the heck she can't find Mr. Right, and then complains about it all the time. Plus, I gotta say, what's really shocking is how multiple times she hits on animals or robots. (When someone brings up the subject of an interview with Bigfoot, Irma saya "Find out if he's married." Ick)

And Vernon... well, I feel he is effeminant. Gay, maybe in the sense that Smithers is gay for his boss, maybe. i felt more like the only man he was really attreacted to was himself, sort of like Simon Belmont.

I have to admit, I don't hate toilet humor when it's done well. Farting multiple times and making poop jokes isn't funny. But doing it in a clever and fresh way is kinda funny, actually.

Look at the show's rating. It's TVY7. Meaning that there is three years worth of kids that still have single digit ages - not to mention parents that let them watch it even if they are under seven.

And besides... I'm 22, and I still find some of those jokes funny. Maybe you're just more mature than I am. After all, Garfield once said "Growing old is inevitable. Growing up is optional."

And today at Zumba the instructor had me go on front of the class for one of the merengue tune. As much as I love dancing, I still got embarrassed and blushed in the part about "shaking your tail". Never mind that I usually go front during the flamenco dances and love moving the hips and using my eyes and hands in a sultry way. There are just things that I have my limits in.

Yeah When toilet Humor is all that's used, it gets repetitive and unfunny. But when it's done well then it can be funny, or downright hilarious.
Maybe Irma was really kinky and was into Beastiality and stuff like that, you never know.
Oh and DRtooth, who's Simon Belmont? Because I thought he was the guy who came out in Castlevania.
As for Laird's decision, I'm glad TMNT is going back to what it was, at least I hope so.

Simon Belmont was the original Castlevania hero indeed. But in Captain N the cartoon, he was an EXTREMELY vain and conceited guy. He bordered on being narcissistic. He was very much into himself.

We suspect Vernon Fenwick is just like that.

To be honest as cool as that would be I don't think it'd work since most of the stories play off previous stories told in volume 1. Some are totally new stories but I don't see them working since most of them deal with subject matter that I don't see making it into a kids show.

Like issue where Raph follows Shadow to Europe and that murderer is running around in the catacombs and almost kills Raph or the werewolf one they did the mini-series after. The blinded Leo one is pretty brutal as well. They can't do Ocho because Leo gashes his eye and that's why he hates him.

Some of the issues are really boring though, like the one where Don and the Utrom go down into the ocean together. I think the multiple Leo issue might work great as two part episodes though. However they'd have to do the return of Shredder as a Shark for them to do that story.

There's also the issues with social commentary in them like the Gold farming story too.

But I agree a series like that would be nifty espcially if they changed the animation style every week to match the issue their doing*Though I could do without Lawson's style*

They can keep the animation consistent IMHO. Fine with me.

Definitely the value of gold one could work. The one where Shadow follows that Lilith lady that is the prequel to Bad Moon Rising can be adapted so that Angel is the one joining that cult. Loops can work well- but Leo would have to be the age that he is now in the NT. Blind Faith and Blind Sight can be done with removal of the potion that sends Leo into the trance- he and Splinter can just meditate about it and receive the vision. They can do the "ghost of Oroku Nagi" one to be adapted into a "ghost of Yukio Mashimi" or "ghost of the original Oroku Saki way back then". There is a sci-fi one involving Donatello that I really liked which I would love to see animated. "Not forgotten" can be done, as well as Kaddish (although I can see how people would protest that one for different reasons than what they usually protest). And of course, doing "My Hero" as a flashback would be totally adorable.

So far they have done a tremendously good job in adapting the comic to the new toon. In fact, I think they have improved it.

This would be where we part ways. I cant' stand watered down stories and the entire first issue of Blindsight is about Leo throwing himself off the roof of a building and impaling himself on his own sword. Then Raph gets murdered. They can't cut that much.

Reading Return To New York, then watch it. It's nothing like the original other then the title I see very few similarities. It's like that for almost every comic adapt episode. Like Turtles Against HATE. Any reason why they changed the skin color of the cult leader? I mean it's minor things as much as it is other things. Ugh...

I think the japanese really do it justice.... Arale playing with talking lumps of poo... Kinnikuman flying by farting... stuff like that.

Ah, well in the regular show, they has Karai stab Leo in the shell, and though they never showed it, it was hinted at and even mentioned in the next episode. They could do the Leo falling on his sword thing in a similar way. And as for Raph... well we've seen Mikey sliced to ribbons (or hinted at) in The Way it Never was. They could do the same kind of cutaway edit.

And if it was a vision, it would be so easy to make Leo go *GASP!!* and wake up the second he fell on his sword. Another edit, though the impalement gets implied.

Well that's a good idea but they couldn't

The sword goes all the way through him and then paramedics find him and they drag him to a special lab somewhere and his guts are hanging out all over. Then they figure out he lives in the sewer from some dirt found on him and they find the turtles lair and Raph gets killed and the others captured. Yeah they could cut away the violence but the method they both die in is to brutal to even imply. There's no way in hell they will have ANYONE die from being shot in a kids show anymore. You just can't pull that kind of stuff off.

Course this is granted they keep it true to the comic if they changed it up tons like they do with all the other comic adapts then it wouldn't be a problem but I don't see it being very good either. They'd have to do the Tales issue that the story starts in as well and in that issue

A Foot Elite blinds Leo because Leo had blinded him in a fight at the Foot headquarters. Then he tricks Leo into stabbing a homeless man and that's how Blind Sight all starts, he feels guilty for murdering an innocent man.

Spawn Guy

Not really since he falls on his sword and things get worse from there. I don't see it as a vision so much as him considering actually doing it and imagining what would realistically happen. Also the TMNT hardly show up at all until the SWAT team guns them down. I'm not sure peole want to see an animated episode of CSI.

you know...the fact that the network presented Laird with a comcept pitch that was so sucky that he rejected it out right, sort of worries me of what exactly we are in for in 2008.

I really thought that a return to the present and an asperation to retool the series to match the tone and atmousphere of the CGI movie ment a return to the edgier and grittier TMMT of the first four seasons, but with an animation style change to match the movie. But with a pitch like pokemon-esch TMMT indicates they are still trying to go for a watered down kiddified crap direction with the series :dead:. Which is a far cry from what every one here is hoping and expecting. Are we really going to get our turtles back in their former glory or are we in for an incarnation of the turtles that is worse than the FF stuff.

I think he does. He did initially say that Fast Forward was an okay idea, but clearly after seeing what it was, he quickly wanted to end it.

I think he does have some clout, after all, he does own the copywrite, and can tell Playmates and 4Kids to take a hike.

What worries me is the card game thing. I know the Fast Forward concept was Playmates's doing, but the writing was all 4Kids. but Card games are flopping left and right. Do we need another one? Can't kids just play Magic, the original one, and leave Yugimon at the curb?

A Card game simply won't sell. Especially since they ALREADY had a card game that didn't sell.

I am holding onto hope the next idea will be decent, if not workable... but unless they somehow travel to a dimension of talking cars that turn into Robots who ride ponies with the princesses (to get both marketing groups)....

Shut up, Dr.Tooth.... 4Kids may be reading this....

The reason 4Kids tried a card game show is because of their new trading card division that I believe was originally set up because of their Chaotic card game. 4Kids has been putting a heavy focus on card games ever since, with them already having Yu-Gi-Oh! and Chaotic, and with them licensing Dinosaur King, which will start airing in the fall. Trading cards are cheap to produce and don't need very good sales to turn a profit. I'm pretty sure that even with the TMNT card game season idea being shut down, there will still be a TMNT card game coming out in the future regardless.

A card game show? "bangs head" They cannot have run out of ideas. There are still plenty Mirage comics that have NOT been adapted. And Season 5 was AWESOME, even if not directly taken out of any Mirage comics. I know they have imagination. I know they have material. They do NOT need to make another Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokemon.

If they make a TMNT card game on its own, fine with me. I'm not into card games. But some people are. Just don't transform TMNT into the next Pokemon. I like Pokemon, but I won't be getting obsessed with it any day now.

The reason the 2K3 TCG flopped was one thing and one thing only: no promotion. Other than seeing boxes of them at discount prices at a K-Mart years later, I only saw them at a Wal-Mart out of town. Upper Deck made no advertisement for the series, and instead chose to promote Yuugiou and Vs. System. My local card shop even refused to get them (unless I special ordered a whole case) because they never heard of them and thought they wouldn't sell. Meanwhile, they still have case upon case of their first order of Duel Masters collecting dust on the discount rack.....

Fast Forward may have been Laird's idea but I think he wanted it to remain in the same tone as 2k3, not have catch phrases like, "It's Ninja Time!" shouted in every episode.

Even though I haven't seen the last 6 eps of FF yet, looking back at it now, it was fine for what it was although I do wish it kept the same animation style and depth of Seasons 1-5. Still, I had fun with the FF concept, and I did like a number of the new villains, although I'm not sad to see it go. 26 episodes in the future was enough, I'm up for something different next time.

It be cool to see more comic adaption episodes. Not sure what to see in the 2008 season. But I'm hoping the new series will eventually get as many episodes as the old one.

They did for five years. One queer jingle in the future did'nt do anything but redirect attention to Tales of the TMNT, so one aspect helped another.

How many times do I have to say that no one was fired?!!! Fast Forward got canceled and people who were working on that series stopped getting work. There IS a difference!! You can't continue to work on a series that is canceled!

Agreed. Since all of the animators for Fast Forward still work at 4Kids and Dong Woo, on other projects... how the Hell does that constitute as them being fired.

And it wouldn't shock me if those same people are employed to work on the animation for next season. Same people, different art style, its the same concept.

Their jobs ended. Probably closest to being laid off due to a position ending or being eliminated. Being fired is something very different. Some people don't even use "fired" unless the termination was due to theft. "Termination" can be due to incompetence, personality conflicts, poor work ethic, or attendance problems.

thei jobs ended? i doubt it. They would be reassigned to a new project than laid off unless there truely was no work. Why waste the folks who make the thing if you got other projects going? Stick them there.

like Rose said, nobody was sacked.
