View Full Version : Comparing TMNT to other cartoons

Where do you think TMNT 2k3 stacks up against other (action/super hero) cartoons theses days? These shows seem to be a dying breed, all thats left is The Batman, Legion of Superheroes, Fantastic Four, and Teen Titans.
Even from a non-biased standpoint (as much of one as I can manage atleast) I think TMNT 2k3 was way ahead of the rest. The art and animation is unmatched, the action is at the very least as good as The Batman, and the voice acting is top notch. TMNT should be huge with kids right now, but make way for silly anime about battling monsters.
What do you think?

I agree, there aren't many cartoons on anymore of the 2k3 caliber. Actually, the darkness of it and some of the animation reminds me a lot of Gargoyles, which was also a really great action cartoon amidst a whole lot of silly stuff. Even some of the 2k3 score reminds me of music from Gargoyles.

It is just plain hard these days to find a GOOD cartoon with an engaging plot, characters that are developed and multidimensional, and humans that actually look human and are not super deformed.
I am extremely pleased with the 2k3 cartoon to say the least.

Cartoons these days suck compared to when we were kids. Well for me at least.
I mean it's like Viva Pinata versus Darkwing Duck, duh DW for the win on that one. I mean really people.

If I'm honest I can't believe the cr*p that kids watch nowadays. I watched a five minute episode of a CG horse with flatulence that was supposed to be a hit with kids. No wonder none of them have any developed grey matter. At least OT TMNT had enough sophistication that it makes you think. And 2k3 of course is great with its complex story lines (although I think it is more favoured by adults than kiddies).

-Codename: KND = I hate this show, bores me.
-Billy and Mandy = Silly, all the jokes are just blah (except dracula)
-Samurai Jack = I love Samurai Jack, but it dosen't come on any more
-Kim Possible = Are you serious?
-Ben10 = Never watched this one, seems like it might be alright.
-AVATAR? HELLO? = I did forget to mention Avatar, good show.
-Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go! = What in the hell?
-A.T.O.M = Haven't heard of this either.
So yea, there is still a low amount of good cartoons.

Like Zarius, I think those are some good shows too.
The 2 you haven't heard of air on Toon Disney's Jetix block.

Yeah, Zarius' list is quite good and useful to throw in the faces of all the otakus who scream that America doesn't produce good animation anymore.
As for which I think are up to TMNT calibur, I wouldn't say it's as strong as Avatar, but its definately better than Ben 10 (and I like Ben 10). And it's most CERTAINLY better than all the run-of-the-mill dirivative anime they cram down our throats night and day.
As for Fast Forward, I admit it's a major step down but I still don't hate the show. Though, while 2k3 fell just short of being as strong as Avatar, Fast Forward doesn't rank even close to Ben 10. Its maybe as good as Xiaolin Showdown.

Like I said, most people like you don't look hard enough, thanks for proving me right with half of your answers. KND and Billy and Mandy are two of CN's most critically acclaimed series, and Possible improved in it's last two seasons because the writers discovered their fanbase was insane and treated it better. You're in the minority

He speaks the truth. Broaden your horizons guys. A dont let a few bad episodes turn you away from a show. You just might be surprised later on.

I was watching Kim Possible a few days ago, and I don't know exactly what was going on, but I guess they were trying to portray a fight scene. Kim and some lady were jumping off the walls of some room spewing one-liners at one another then the other chick just runs away, and Kim is like "oh darn, she got away". I know it's a disney show so they can't get away with much, but I could never enjoy something like that.

Umm.. so you watched a scene from one episode recently amd decided not to check on the show further?
Sorry, but definately not a way to judge a series.

No, my cousisns watch it so I've seen several episodes. I was just using that as an example of how much I think that show sucks.
Still, if any Disney 'toon is too much for you to keep up with, how could you ever keep up with 4Kids reinvisioning of TMNT? Not ganging up on you. I just don't understand what you're trying to say.

I just don't like Kim Possible dude. But I love TMNT, didn't really matter how good 2k3 was, I was gonna love it anyways, but I'm just saying that it's a great show even with out my previous turtle fandom.

Then that's obvious bias.

Yes, but it's not like I saw Kim Possilbe and said "hey this is worst than Ninja Turtles, it sucks". If Eastman & Laird never made the turtles, I still wouldn't like Kim Possible or any of those other shows I said were bad.

in all honesty, i do like some shows like family guy a little more to the 2003 series, but that's only because i don't get to watch the series anymore because there's no more FoxBox in my area. But i would probably think differently if i got to see most, they did a great job following the comics, probably because it IS based off the comics, lol

I really have to agree with that list. Those have to be the best cartoons about right now (Not to sure about Monkey Team or A.T.O.M. though, but that's because I haven't seen any episodes yet).
TMNT, compared to everything else on right now, is way up in the top ten. It has character development, dark undertones, and plots that twist and intertwine with each other so that if you miss an episode at any given time, you will more than likely miss a key development in the story. It seems like a breath of fresh air after watching things like Spongebeb that make little sense what-so-ever. It's really a shame that 4Kids took all of this and threw it out of the window for Fast Forward... *sighs*

Well, having seen both A.T.O.M. and Monkey Team, can say both have similar stuff (to their own degree). A.T.O.M. lesser-so than TMNT, but Monkey Team is pretty much on-par with TMNT (having quite an amount of twists/surprises and some continuity to it).
