What do we know about April's sister, Robyn O'neil? It has been awhile since I watched the episode she appreared in. All I remember is what she looks like, she came over to visit April, and the turtles do not know her yet. Is there anything else about her? Hopefully she will appear again if the turtles return home in 2008.

Nothing is really known about her, other than the fact she exists. Still, I'm glad she exists, even if it's only to give April some context.

I don't remember her ever making an appearance in the cartoon. Which episode was she in?

"Trouble With Augie" (at the beginning and end of the ep.).

But what's interesting is when April says, "Ah, the O'Neil family portrait." And Robyn is not even in it. April must be at lest 8 or 9 years older than Robyn.

Yeah! I noticed that, too! Is she a character from the comics or did she just suddenly get written for that episode, kind of like an afterthought?

She's from the comic and in the comic she is the real child. While April is a magic drawing made by her father via the crystal on Kirbys pencil.
And no I'm not kidding that's how it goes in the comics.:|

Thanks for clearing that up - although I'm a little confused. Is that in the Donatello comic in Vol 1? I just got it but haven't read it yet or does Kirby appear again?

Aprils Father comes across the crystal which we learn in Peter Lairds new tmnt Vol. 4
So no it doesn't happen in the donatello 1 shot.

Kind of an interesting way of doing it but kind of cheesy at the same time lol. If the cartoon followed the comics, Robyn should be in the picture and older. Cause Robyn is around first becuase they experiment with drawing a dog first and that doesn't work out, neither does the first few Aprils lol.

April's dad finds the crystal first, then Kirby does, then the crystal is lost in the dimension with Kirby. I wonder if we'll ever see it again. Hah, next we'll find out Oroku Saki or the TMNT were drawings as well :P

Back off topic... I believe April's origin was issue #22 of Vol. 4, but it might have been #21. Whether you like April's origin or not, you can't deny the issue was one of the most well written issues of recent TMNT comics.

April's dad drew her (as a baby) using the same pencil Kirby used in Donatello #1 and she came to life out of the paper.

This is one of many reasons I'm not sad Vol. 4 hasn't returned to publication.

I thought it sucked too, especially as April was normal for so long. It seemed like Laird just thought, "What can I do to really screw with one of the character's origins?"

Not to be negative, but next month we'll find out the real origin of Casey Jones. Let's hope HE'S not a pencil drawing.

I am chalking Robyn not being in the portrait as either a continuity error, that Robyn had not been planned on being on 2k3 yet, or that Robyn was ill or out of town that day. Hey, the other day I saw a family portrait taken at my grandfather's birthday party where I had such a violent allergy attack that I looked like a monster. I do not know why I was forced to pose for it. I did not start out sick that day- it was all the dust in the restaurant.

In the comics Robyn is 4 years older than April and has a son who'd be in his mid 20's by now in Vol 4. He was only seen briefly in City at War when he was like 4 or 5 years old. At the time April was living with Robyn, who was recently divorced.

But yea.. Robyn is the only hrm real child of the O'Neil's. Apperantly there was complications when Robyn was born that prevented them from having another child. But that all changed when Mr. O'Neil baught the magic crystal at an auction.

I also missed the issue where April's origin is revealed and ....I'm okay with that.
But, Robyn was, as far as I can remember, introduced in City at War. April leaves NYC to live in California. For a time, she lives with Robyn and Robyn's young son before returning to NY.

Sweet I get to correct Rose (although I know it wasn't an intentional error).

April's dad used the crystal that Kirby used, not the pencil :P.

Robyn was much better looking in the comics.

I think the only reason they added her in 2K3 is to round April's backstory a little bit.

Man, I hope April's a normal human in 2K3. I will scream if she's a pencil drawing again!

Or since everything he drew ended up there maybe it wouldn't work. But I can't blame the guy for wanting to stay in the New Genesis/Asgard deal he had going on.

His warp crystal made it back though...maybe he couldn't follow it. If it was the same shard.

I can't blame him either. If he drew a portal, it should appear there I would assume. Just like when he drew stuff for Donny, it showed up there. So if the portal had the intention of going back to Dimension Third Earth :P, it should have worked.

When did his crystal make it back?

I'm not sure. It might. It could have looped back. Maybe it could have even opened up to some other dimension. Maybe Kirby...I dunno folded in on himself. Like the gate only led to his imagination and once he was there started to collapse because he could sustain it from inside as an actual reality.

The gate closing on them that fast was kinda convenient for the guy, but maybe it wasn't 100% physiological. The gate he created lasted the longest out of anything he drew. April to, technically she should’ve collapsed back into whatever dimension the crystal pulled from long before her first steps. Kind of makes you wonder how the crystal actually works.

When did his crystal make it back?
It didn't. It might have been the same one Kirby used and April's dad could have dumped it in that pile of coal he found it in. April's creation took place years before the Don one shot.

Thanks for the information on Robyn. I'm thinking about Kriby's crystal now, which is also interesting. I wonder what is, if anything at all, lurking in the real world that Kirby or someone else may have drawn....

What if Silver Sentry and the Justice Force are living drawings? I doubt they are, but it's possible.

The first two "Aprils" did get sent to the drawing dimension long before her first steps. Our April has lasted as long as she has because she was drawn in ink rather than pencil. It's very poetic. Just another reason why I love this story so much.

EDIT: Regarding how the crystal works.... Based on the issue, the more emotion and surety you put into the drawing the longer it lasts. The drawing material apparently makes a difference as well. If you put your heart and soul into a pencil drawing (which is what they did on the 2nd April) it will last several months rather than minutes or hours, but it will still disappear far too quickly. An ink drawing apparently lasts decades or more. I'm sure April will die of natural causes long before she actually disappears. So for all intents and purposes, April is just like anyone else.

April's dad had nothing to do with it. At the end of the issue, April and Renet drop the crystal down a drain or vent or something (I can't remember exactly what it was they dropped it in). It's just sort of assumed that the crystal made its way to wherever Kirby found it. I don't think that's much of a stretch considering there was 15-20 years between the time April tossed the crystal and the time Kirby found it.

Well, she nearly died in issue #10, so... >_>

If you mean will she die of old age... I think so considering she has aged normally so far.

EDIT: Oh, and April's father killed the bee that he drew.

odupianist

But didn't the bee vanished after he killed it? The question is, did it revive in the Kirby-verse or did it go to the Kirby-verse dead?

In regards to April, I know she aged like a human, but that does necessarily mean she'll die of old age? I know I'm being nit picky but it's still a possibility. Who knows, she might live to be really old like the turtles lol

Actually April's younger than Robyn, and Robyn apparently lives in San Francisco by that point, in the original Mirage comics, Robyn is said to be 4 years older than April, but since it's not revealed in the 2003 series, but the 2003 series is trying to take inspiration from the original Mirage comics, I guess you can assume that in the 2003 universe, Robyn is 4 years older than April
