The other day I received in the mail original moc Leo, Mike, and Raph from an ebay deal. Not only do they look awesome but they got me thinking back to when I first relized the TMNT. I was pretty young and my Dad would go on field service for work ever so often...well one time he came back from what I believe was Delaware...could be wrong here...but oh well..not the point. Anyhow he had brought me and my younger brother a gift from his trip. It was Mikey and Don, and I had knew nothing of these strange turtle toys... So just going by color, I picked Mikey because "the orange guy" looked cool. This is my very first TMNT memory, I'm not sure how many other people picked up on the TMNT through the toys...as for the most part I here people talk about catching on when they first saw the cartoon or the comic book....so question being, what was your first TMNT memory?

Awesome topic! :D

I'm told my dad took my brother and I to see the first movie. I don't remember that at all, and if I do, I only remember seeing the exterior of Shredder's "warehouse" hideout on the big screen..thats it!

My first real memory is my dad's mother (my grandmother, of course) taking me to KB Toys in one of the shopping malls in Reading, PA. She bought me Raph and Leo from the first series. I'll never forget how squishy Raph's head was (though I later in my years saw another "original" Raph with a harder head). :P

Much to my satisfaction, when the new TMNT figures were released a few weeks ago, I first picked up, yes, Raph and Leo at, yes, my local KB Toys. :)

My local tv station was airing the first 5 episodes as a 'test' during spring break of my 6th grade year ;) I named one of my Lego horses after Leonardo.

Of course all the plastic Lego horses looked the same, but somehow I knew which one was Leo *shrug*

Once I hit 7th grade the Turtles were officially on tv. Then I was like "oh YEA that's why I named that toy Leonardo! durrrr..."

On a bus trip to visit my Grandfather,we stopped in at one of the gift shops at one of the bus stations.I was given a chance to choose a magazine or comic to read on the way.I chose TMNT #1 ( Archie series ).I must have read and reread that thing a hundred times.

Either buying the toy Mike, or reading my first Archie issue, which was the the swedsih issue with the Eye of Sarnath-story (Sarnath! Sarnath! Sarnath! :P)

My earliest memory of the Turtles? Hmmm, probably the kids playing out the characters on the playground in second grade. They made me Casey Jones, but I didn't get into the Turtles until a few months later. I had no idea who Casey was at the time, so I didn't know how to act!

I remember hearing about the TMNT at school one day and decided to tune in and see what all the fuss was about. I don't remember what my first cartoon episode was, but I became hooked. Next thing I remember was getting Donatello and Raphael action figures (with the squishy heads). Heh... Just like Darth, I got my first figures from my local KB Toy store. And I bought a new Giant Michelangelo at the same place. :)

Yes it was, but I think the original poster didn't know about it. That's okay, since the older thread got buried. I can't even begin to count how many "Who's your favorite turtle?" and "How old is everyone here?" threads I've seen since being a part of this forum. Some topics tend to get repeated after a long while.

My first memory, well I faintly remember seeing the first TMNT movie on the big screen, I was only like three years old. I remember going to see TMNT 2 more clearly though,
Me- What are we seein'?
Mom- The new Ninja Turtle movie
Me-(looked at VHS of TMNT 1 on the shelf) But there's already a Ninja Turtle movie!

Heh, I recently received issue 4 of the first Mirage volume, and reading it brought me back to 15 years ago when TMNT was one of the first comics I ever got into. I borrowed #4 off a friend, and half of the issue's dialogue had been imbedded in my memory ever since then. Reading it now is a real trip in Nostalgia Land. I guess that was my first memory of turtle stuff. :P

It was from what I remember, but it was REALLY dark, so you kinda had a hard time seeing what was going on. Jeez, I miss my drive-in! The place I live at now doesn't have any...

I said it in the past thread about this, but I'll go ahead and up my postcount

It was during the second season of the cartoon (1988, for the clueless). I was 4 at the time. The kid that lived next door to us was a humungo 80s toon fan, TMNT included. He was over at my house visiting with me and my sister like he usually did. Actually, there were probably at least 2 families at the house at the time, with my now late grandmother visiting as well. Anyway, the TV was blaring as usual, and lo and behold, "Splinter No More" was the episode that was on. That's my first TMNT technical memory, but I didn't actually become a fan of the cartoon until my mom rented and recorded the Heroes In A Half-Shell VHS onto a Beta tape. Again, for those not old enough to remember, Beta was the norm before VHS: it was smaller, couldn't record as long, but it was better quality than VHS. The reason a lot of my peers don't remember it is because Beta started to die out around 1989, when my peers and I were about 4 or 5 years old. I was very rare among them because my parents were still loyal to Beta even when we owned 2 VHS machines (one for plain viewing, the other for recording).

In short, my dad was into that techy stuff, and he still is even at 53!

I don't remember anything specific. All I remember is having a lot of the toys (Turtle Blimp owned!), watching the show and see the 1st movie and being afriad of Raph LOL.

Good topic! (im new btw)

One of my first memories was at SOME supermarket type place, and they had the turtle action figures just on an end row, and I was looking at them, I remember Ace Duck the most. I also remember getting the bed sheets for my birthday one year, and then putting them on the next morning (SATURDAY) while watching the cartoon.

Ace Duck is still my favorite character/action figure. While all the others have been long put away up in my closet, he still sits out on my dresser. :)

The first thing I can remember was falling down a manhole cover in NYC and walking around and seeing this giant green dude with an orange mask...

Actually, no that never happend. LOL The first thing I think about when i think about ninja turtles is being really little and waking up early in the morning before school (like 1st/2nd) grade and wrapping myself up in a blanket with my little brother...and we would sit in the cubby/walk-way in our house, between the desk and the counter in the kitchen. I would put my feet under the desk drawer and open it and shut it...until my mom screemed. LOL We would watch it every am and then get ready for school.

BUT one thing I will never forget is going to see TMNT #1 at the movies. I was around eight years old and my older cousin bry (who is 11 years older than me) took both my brother and I. I just remember seeing the first opening shots of the turtles and I couldn't close my mouth...i looked something like this :o My cousin reached his hand over and closed it for me...and wispered "yup very cool--I'm glad I could take you guys."

Earliest Memory eh? :trolleye:
Well, I was in this gooy stomach tye thing...and then all of a sudden I saw this light, and this screaming sound. So I followed the light, and out I came into this world. As soon as the doctor layed me down, he handed me a TMNT Comic, although I was only 3mins old, I read the whole comic and demanded more, but they just cut off my umbilical cord and took my comic....till this day I vow revenge.... :tmad:

My earliest TMNT memory would have to be when they aired the Lotus Blossum episode, I remember I had the biggest crush on Leo, and after seeing him fall for Lotus, I got kinda mad. I took all my toys and put them away and stopped watching the show for 2 weeks, because I was so mad. My mom and grandmother to this day still make fun of me for that.

Also, recently my family had a get together, where everyone packed into my grandmother's house and we just have a big meal, talk, and hang out.
Well, I should have known better than to wear my green TMNT shirt, because that was the main point of decussion. Each one of my family members was telling me how they would never see me without my little Leo troll doll somewhere around me. My grandmother even told me that she would find my toys all over her house when I stayed down there, and when she went to yell at me for having all my toys out I would say that I was helping the turtle attack the foot base.

I guess that I have been a nut for longer than I remember...lol

When I was in first grade me and my friend went to the mall. He bought a Raphael and I got a Mikey (both the original figures) even though I didn't really know what TMNT was yet. We played with them and then I got caught up in everything else-the cartoon, the cards, and more toys. I had a mikey, my best friend had raph, and two other kids at school we knew had a leo and a don. We all took them everyday for recess to play with. That is until one kid came and took the leo away from the kid and threw it over the school fence. SOB, wish we weren't just first graders and he wasn't twice our size!

While my mom has told me many stories of my youth. ( riding around the house on my ghostbusters bike, wearing my super mario bros shirt and singing the tmnt theme song while I threw the Hamburger good guy from the Food Fighters across the room) the very first memory I can remember of my own is getting a cool pair of Mikey suspenders on my b-day along with a tmnt video and some figures. I remember using my tmnt birthday hat as a secret hiding spot for my brand new Splinter figure. After Splinter had finsihed saving Mike from my new Shredder I watched the video. The part I remember most is watching the mouser on the screen chomp down a bunch of walls to get to a rat. Then the Splinter/Shredder battle continued. Man those were the days.

The Turtles memory was incredible. I turned on the TV and Raphael was pointed at me and screamed "ARE YOU READY TO KICK SOME ASS?!" and I was like "HELL YES!"

And so they did, and I never looked back because the Ninja Turtles was the greatest show ever made and no one will ever take that title away. Well maybe.....no, not even Battle Pope fighting Godzilla.

I remember going to see the First movie. It was glorious. My father got us tickets to see the very first showing and the movie reel broke. He fell asleep so all the kids started to karate fight in the aisle (this is true) and after they fixed the film, it broke 3 more times. We went in at 7 am and came out at like, 2:30 pm. After me and my friend got home we ripped out all our turtle toys looked at them, then just wailed on each others ass for like 3 hours. I slept for a day afterwards. I was 6. I've tried Crack and Heroine, nothing comes close to the high of the original movie. Especially when Shredder falls from the ****ING SKY and just says "It's time to have your asses kicked Turtles." And the just fight and true to his word the Shredder kicks their asses and then Splinter comes and I nearly pooped myself it was THAT COOL. Then when he flung Shredder over the edge I was like "It can't get cooler than this!" And he also said that line "Death Comes to all Oroku Saki, but when it comes for you it comes without Honor" and he fell into a dump truck. Then Casey crushed his ass. Oh man. And the Shredders voice was incredible IN CREDIBLE. If I ever ran into that voice, even on a crippled blind armless midget I'd still expect to get my ass kicked because it sounds that cool. And then they have that old school rap "Turtle Power", I get so pumped from hearing that song I just throw stuff at pedestrians or run them down when I play it in my car. I got thrown out of a school dance for threatening the DJ because he wouldnt play it. Then when the school realized the DJ didnt want to play it and didnt have it they killed his punk ass, with a sai in the face. And tied his ass to a train.

Oh Man, then I saw TNM. And my heart sank. Who the hell is the Dragon Master? I mean, total bummer. Then the new show came and all was right and good with the world. so on and so forth. Anyway, thats how I feel.

Hrrrmm... The first TMNT moment I remember right now is watching the movie. I know I really wanted to see the movie so I must have been into the turtles for awhile before the movie came out. A few posts back I read some guy saying he went to the opening to the movie. I did also. I can't remember if everything he said is true but I doubt it. But I do remember some guys doing some karate moves in the aisle. I am also sure it was the guy who played don during fight scenes doing the moves. It was really fun but not sure if the movie got delayed or not. After that all I remember doing is being into TMNT all the time and watching the movie so many times. I remember one week coming up every day or about a week and watching the movie over and over again.

I'm not sure if I answered this question already or not, so . . .

My earliest memory of the Ninja Turtles is hard to figure out because they have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. There was never a time when the Ninja Turtles weren't around.

I guess it was destiny. :goofygri:

What I do remember, however, is that the cartoon was the first thing I was introduced to. And look what kind of effect it had on me!!! :o

My first official introduction to the TMNT was in the pre-school playground. I couldn't have been more than four years old and all the boys on the playground were playing this game called "Ninja Turtles". They made me be April, even tho I'd never seen the show, told me to sit in a clump of trees, and yell that the Shredder had captured me. This went on a several days until i finally saw the show on Sat am. A few months later my parents tok my on vacation and bought me a Mikey plushie. To this day,it's still my favorite toy, even after 15 years of wear and tear.

I don't really remember much. I was born in '88 (about a year after the Turtles came out in the cartoon) so it's basically a blurr to me. Ok, my first TMNT memory...

I was 10, in 5th grade, and watching TV afterschool. Everyday I watched Gilligan's Island at 4:30. After Gilligan's Island Mork and Mindy was on, and I've never really liked that show so I would channel surf after Gilligan was over. On one such day I came accross this weird cartoon with giant green turtles and some lady in bright yellow. Well, quickly after I found this it was all over (it was on at 4:30, over at 5). But darn it, those 30 seconds I saw were so cool! So I ran to the TV Guide to find out what this show was ... Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Hmm.. ok. So I watched it the next day instead of Gilligan's Island and the rest is history.

And like Turkituck, my favorite toy is a Mikey plushie that I got that Christmas (1989), and is definately showing his age. :)

Bumping this for the newer fans, to relate to the recent "what did you think of the TMNT as a kid?" My earliest TMNT memory was probably when I was 4 and in preschool channel surfing, probably during the fall/winter of 1989-90 (my family didn't have cable yet). I was old enough to understand that there was a second dial with more channels, and one afternoon I saw these green things on the air, and that turned out to be the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! But once my mom purchased Case of The Killer Pizzas for my 5th birthday, there was no looking back as I would watch that tape practically once a week. So, it was probably by "accident" channel surfing finding the OT that started it all!

My first memory was when my friend came over and brought splinter and a foot soldier to my house. I had no clue what they were. I moved about a month later and shortly after that i saw the cartoon on saturday morning for the first time. I was hooked on the show after that. Two months later mom and dad bought me all four turtles and splinter from the local wal-mart and started my playtime phase of collecting. I was 11 at the time.
My favorite memory is when i was helping a lady out to her car at a grocery store. (I was 12 and waiting for mom to get through the line) The lady gave me $2 for helping. we went to a jewel osco and they had comic stand with a tmnt archie sitting on the shelf. Issue #28. (the intro of Ninjara) I was hooked on comics after that. still trying to finish that series of comics.

My first memory was of a VHS that I got from Burger King. It had one episode on it, April's Fool, when she switches with the princess who looks just like her. I used to watch it EVERY DAY. I still have the tape in my attic lol. Also, my other early memories are of going to KB Toys. And one year for my birthday, I got to go to Child World and pick out a toy. I picked out Shredder's module after I was told that the Technodrome was too expensive.

I had to make a quick repair to one of their arcade game machines. Later on I would learn far more about them, including following the Eastman and Laird comic book series, as well as the 1987 TV show.

Watching Turtle Tracks on TV when I was really young.

It's strange to look back, and now I can explain why the Turtles appealed to me and still do, but back then, I have no clue how I became hooked.

I was about 12 when TMNT came into vogue. My first thought was what is this I never seen anything like this before. The GI Joe cartoon went off the air as with Transformers.I guess this was something to fill the void.I was never into the figures.I do remember being 14 when the episode "Rapheal Meet His Match" aired in 1990 on CBS. My jaw hit the floor at the sight of Mona Lisa.Yeah, you could look back on it but geez.Of course she was never seen again after that.

I'd have been 8 or 9. The cartoon had just started airing over here, and I'd heard how cool TMHT was from kids at school - it was the latest thing, almost overnight everyone was talking about it. This was way before any of the merchandise had hit here. Not long after I was in a bus station bookshop with my dad and saw the TPB of the first 3 Mirage issues. I begged my dad to buy it, and from that point on I was hooked, at least on the toys & comics. I wasn't a huge fan of the cartoon after the first couple of season (probably 'cause our version was censored to hell and often made no sense whatsover).

Some chewing gum back in mid 1991, I think.
