Does any one here think that the old toon could have pulled off a City at War story arc? I've just been watching my episodes from volume five of season three and episodes like Uasgi Yojimbo, Beware the Lotus, and Usagi Come Home and I saw how awsome and semi-epic these episodes where in terms of fighting suspence, agnst and over-all plot. Especially in the Lotus episode, where Lotus breifly over threw Shredder and took his place in command and Shredder's bitter rivalry and resentment at being replaced by her, and his way of making it seem she had betrayed Krang. How easy could it have been for this conflict to have accumulated into a City at War type story arc in the old toon with Lotus and Shredder battling it out for supremacy and it being taken to the streets of New York and the turtles getting swept up in the middle of the conflict, whitsle all the gangs in the city taken advantage of the chaos to run wild. Plus the added bonus of the wary respect Leoanrdo and Lotus had for one another to add agnst to to the whole conflict.

Do you think the old toon could have pulled off its own version of a City at War-esch type story line and done it justice? Or do you think a City at War story arc just wouldn't have worked in the old toon at all/

They weren restricted by morons who insisted that programs had to be shallow and silly to appeal to kids. So, that's why they were never allowed to do any stories that were more than two eps long (until the last season), and there was really only of of those ("PLANET OF THE TURTLEOIDS"). A few others that come to mind are iffy: the Usagi eps, the season 3 Casey eps, the Howie eps, the Hokum eps (aside from Howie's, their second parts were more throwbacks than continuations). But, anyway, children surely couldn't muster the attention to follow a three-parter, right? Let's also not forget that CaW wasn't even finished being published until season 7. So, that particular story wasn't an option (as if they ever adapted any comic stories anyway).

So, is this a cool little fantasy to see classic cartoon characters enact their version of CaW? It most certainly is. Heck, I'd be willing to lend my support to anyone who has the will and enough video editing skills to try to piece together and (probably) dub a video of a classic 'toon version of a CaW-like storyline. I'd happily write the sucker. :D

Yup, City at War was not concluded till Season 7 of the OT. So the only way it could have been inserted would have been in the Red Sky episodes. Which are pretty dark and gritty enough as is. Perhaps not have it as a 3 part episode, but 3 episodes with 3 different titles and no "To Be Continued" but still have an overall continuing storyline.

I would have to rewatch all those episodes (and I can't right now) to see if there are any similarities or if anything Syncs up.

Personally, I feel they could have done it during the red sky series, instead of the Lord Dregg thing (now that I think about it). I mean, It would have been slightly serious and slighty funny and it could work if they alter it (similar how it was altered in the new series) to fit the series.

But I would have loved to see some of the old comics in old toon form...

Yeah, you also have to realize that when the early seasons of the cartoon were first airing, the Mirage Comics were just starting out as well. They took the basic idea from the early comics, (Shredder, Foot Clan, Baxter and the Mousers, Krang being inspiration of an Utrom), and went from there.

I also tend to think that General Traag and the Rock Soldiers were basically the old toons equivilant to the Triceratons, even though the Triceratons appeared way later in Season 7 as well.

In a hypothetical scenario, I would love to see how it would have gone. Especially if it was part of Red Sky. Anyway, if you changed Lotus' name to Karai, you have a very similar exchange with Leo.

If you can call it an appearance. None of the other characters knew they were in the ep, just the audience. Laughably pathetic, I'd say. ^_^

Yeah, I would have loved to see Wally and "the Beaver Cleaver" from "The Big Cuff Link Caper" mix it up with the foot clan on a massive scale!

I don't know gobo I could have sat through a three parter episode story arc as a little kid, especially if the story moved along at reasonably good pace and was engrossing. I think people are to swift to think how easily kids are distracted. Besides a coniuty heavy story arc doesn't have to be a cut off in the middle if a sitaution where there is a "to be contiued" sign attached to end of each episode. Just a story line that carries on for several episodes where the characters deal with the same conflict but each episide ends but isn't nessssarly resolved. Like the whole Eye of Zarnoth story arc the show had going in season two. It had continuity and the issue lasted for several episodes with out any "to be continued" episodes. And then there is the three part finale at the end of season three. That could easily be described as to three parter but it had a resulotion at the end of each episode but the conflict carried on for more than one episode.

And I know that City at War arc in the comics didn't debut yet when season three was out. I didn't really mean a straight adaption of City at War in the old cartoon, just a story arc that was similar to it where there is a bunch of chaos and a free for all with gangs in the streets of New York due to some conflict caused by Shredder that the crooks in the series where taken advantage of.

I just think that the conflict between Lotus Blossom and the Shredder and the turtles was just such a good one that I felt that it would have been nice to see a sort of story arc where Lotus comes back for revenge on the Shredder for dishonoring her, and it escalades into a ninja battle between the two in the streets that the turtles have to disfuse. And I don't know put some real closure to the Lotus Blossum character. Because as it was I felt that her episode where she says she listens to Leoanrdo but doesn't fully come over to his side was very cryptic and agnst with her indecision to give up her mercenary life.

Actually, I personally think that a City At War-esch sort of story would have been pulled off well in the old cartoon. Especially if it had been written by David Wise or Michael Reeves.

*facepalms* I totally forgot about the Sarnath arc. That was a four-parter. So, that was proof that kids weren't the idiots that marketers expect them to be. BTW, I was being sarcastic when saying that kids were unable to pay that much attention. I just forgot to use my sarcasm tags. I have yet to see the last three eps of season three as part of the same story any more than all episodes involving The Technodrome coming to the surface are though, but I'm sure I'm out-voted on that one. But, I agree on everything else you posted. It certainly would have been cool.

Also, remember "The Big" trilogy from season 3 (1989). I loved those episodes. And season one is like a continuation with five parts.

The Big Break In was such a garbage episode (the only reason I ever watch it is to hear Mikey call Bebop Pork Puss    ) , the other 2 were fantastic tho.

Anyway, if you changed Lotus' name to Karai, you have a very similar exchange with Leo.

But that is the beauty of it. You wouldn't have to change Lotus into Karai because she is already very much like her; but in her own unique way (which oddly predates Mirages Karai :o ). That was sort of what I was trying to get at with the whole Lotus and Leonardo agnst thing. It reall parallels the whole Karai and Leo thing in the 2k3 series. And it would have been nice to see this dynamic fleshed out more in the OT with a follow up with Leoanrdo and Lotus crossing paths again and Leonardo trying to get Lotus to give up her rogue ninja ways and go straight. It was like her debuting episode where she gives that flower to Leonardo and says a heart felt "Maybe some day we'll fight on the same side" was a set-up for another altercation where Lotus goes has to make a choice. But we get her being pretty much on good terms with the turtles and acting like they had all seen each other prior to that insident. Which actually sort of a let down and lost potenticial.

But any way that is what I think a City At War-esch story line wouls have played out if it happened right after the whole Lotus Blossum arc. How do you think a City at War type story would have played out if it happened another place in the OT's time line? What would have happened? Some people here have mentioned it happening during the Red Sky arc of the series.Which I think would have been awsome and worked out well especially since most of the city was aggressively against the turtles at this point. I think it would have been a better send off for Shredder and Krang if they had the turtles going up Shredder for last time. Instead of the feable way the where brougfht back into the story at the end.

I have yet to see the last three eps of season three as part of the same story any more than all episodes involving The Technodrome coming to the surface are though, but I'm sure I'm out-voted on that one

the last three episodes of season three was the climax of the whole technodrome needs fuel arc. The Rip off consisted of Shredder tricking the turtles into thinking he was going after a power source he wasn't actually after so he could get the fuel. The Big Blow out episode (I forget the exact titles of the episodes) had ending and beginnings that picked up right where the last episode left off, so they where litterly with in moments of each other. And if you missed one episode you would be a little clueless at first as to why every one is a panicing and how the technodrome got out. So yeah you could say the last three episodes where a three parter, even though they didn't have "to be continued" attachhed to the end of each of them.

I love those eps. Found them quite tense in places....

An intesresting fanfic based on the 1987 cartoon could be set between "The Big Blow Out" and "Plan 6 from Outer Space". With Shredder, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady in Dimension X, the story could have been about a gang war in New York City.

Which street gangs could have taken part?

*The gang where Bebop and Rocksteady once were members.
*The cyper punk gang that appeared in the season 2 episode "Teenagers from Dimension X". Bebop or Rocksteady said the cyper punks fougt more unfair than Bebop and Rocksteady. The cyber punks lived in a part of the town where even the special police forces where afraid of going to, so that part of the town would have worked very good for gang war.

That wouldn't work for the OT because Shredder had no underworld gang presence at all.

That's true. Except for the few times he appeared on TV to air his threats, noone outside the TMNT really knew him. And while he did work with some mobsters before, he sure as hell wasn't running things in the city as top bad guy. OT Shredder was more into all-out world domination, not just one city.

Hell, with all the times Shredder was banished to Dimension X/Underwater/Polar ice caps, etc etc etc, we would have had 3 or 4 City at Wars.
