View Full Version : So which characters?

So which characters do you consider jobbers? I need help making a list and here is what I have so far:
Hun - He was sort of a threat in the first season but he loses multiple times to pretty much every charcter he faces.
Don - To an extent. He beat Future Mega Shredder and he takes out a few goons here and there but alot of the time he needs saving or is knocked to the side.
Justice Force - They are glorified jobbers.

haha you realize most Americans won't understand what the word Jobber means right?:|
It's really not a word used over here.
Even the definitions at dictionary.com isn't very helpful in the way you're wording things.
job·ber /ˈdʒɒbər/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[job-er] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. a wholesale merchant, esp. one selling to retailers.
2. a pieceworker.
3. (formerly) a merchant who deals in special, odd, or job lots.
4. a person who practices jobbery.
Edit: Wait unless this is another of those cases where we've taken an old unused word and made it into a fresh hip new internet slang term...haha

Sorry about that. I should not have assumed everyone would know.
"The true term originates in professional wrestling where a performer is constantly made to lose his matches, usually to progress a story line. An example would be Kane losing to Umanga. Now Kane has a history of being unbeatable and realistically should have been able to beat the up and coming Umanga, but in the end he lost so that he would be viewed as a giant threat."
Its basically a person of high skill who loses fights to make someone look better.

Hun perhaps, but the Justice Force, they haven't had enough battles to fully deteremine that. And Donatello, certainly not, that episode showed he can handle Shredder just as well as his brothers, who also fall down too sometimes,he could take out an army, or a large portion of one, if he had to, like "The King".

Siver Sentry always gets saved by Mikey. He also let Aprril win the arm wrestling match. Raptar lost to his villian. The JF were defeated by the Triceratons and Nano. And Nobody seems like he would have not been successful in the two of his episodes if not for the turtles. The old JF also needed Mikeys help. The turtles constantly outshine these guys.
There were a dozen times where Donny was a second away from being killed. And when he gets hit it always seems like he takes a long time to get up.

There were many times where Donny was a second away from being killed.
Then you might as well say the same about Leonardo in those Shredder Strikes Back, Big Brawl, and I Monster, but that ain't true either. And that Aplril/Silver Sentry, can't count that since he did that on purpose.

You got me there but still. Besides a couple of no name henchemen and Mega Shredder what other villians did he beat?

Well, for one thing, a "couple" of no-named henchmen is quite a way to word it after so many seasons of fighting. As for all the villains they've actually finished off (Y'Lintians, Savanti Romero, Shokanbo, Viral, and Draco) Well he took equal part just like his brothers in the direct deaths of the first three (Viral's finale was Cody; and Draco's was Raphael, Michaelangelo, and Splinter). I also talked about how he gave Karai a good knock-out while handling her armies.
As I've stated, a huge majority of their efforts were teamwork, and he participated in just about every one of those efforts. That's how I like to state it since I don't want to put too much emphasis on any one turtle's achievements, 'cause I'm an equal defender of every turtle.

I dont count team wins. But I like how you are a equal defender.

As you wish. Then there ain't much to say, 'cause that's all the villains who were actually killed, actually aside from both Shredders, but again those were both teamwork efforts as well. And thank you for saying so.

I guess some wrestling fans have been trying to make that word more popular. :)
What a "jobber" is in wrestling is someone that loses all the time. They make the other wrestlers look good by having them get wins over them, and make the monster-like wrestlers intimidating looking by having the monsters demolish them in the ring. However, I haven't really understood the concept too well because if someone loses all the time it kind of doesn't help to make someone look good if they lose all the time anyway, but whatever...
I actually stumbled on a similar article yesterday:

He says the foot soldiers are jobbers, and I totally agree. Also, Glass Joe from Punchout is most certainly a jobber. There is no way he can win unless you do absolutely nothing.

Didn't Mr. Burns once refer to a grocery store to the local "Food Jobber?"

I hate to say this but Splinter, and not just Fast Forward. Yes Splinter is bad ass, he owns Shredder in their first battle and always beats the turtles, but he still feels like a jobber.
One of the few times Hun actually won was agianst Splinter.

When did Hun win against Splinter? I think Hun almost won against Splinter in RtNY, but then Splinter kicked his ass. I think Splinter can only been seen as a jobber bc he doesn't battle as much as the turtles.

Splinter is certainly NOT a jobber. He always wins when he spars with the Turtles. And in "The Ancient One", he purportedly let Leo disarm him and let the accident happen so that Leo could see how much damage his anger was causing.
Vernon Fenwick could be seen as a jobber in some ways.

I have changed my mind about Don. He has won more than he lost.

Offcourse the foot soldiers. Whenever you see one around you can be sure he'll kiss the floor in the next 10 seconds.
I bet they even enjoy it, those masked beating slaves. ^^

I think Splinter can only been seen as a jobber bc he doesn't battle as much as the turtles. Rogue in the House pt. 2. Althought we don't see much of the fight, Hun ends up trapping Splinter in chains, incapacitating him for the rest of that particular skirmish.
And in "The Ancient One", he purportedly let Leo disarm him and let the accident happen so that Leo could see how much damage his anger was causing.Interesting interpretation, although I'd have to disagree. I think that had Splinter known Leo had it in him to slash him like that, he would have sent him to the Ancient One before anybody got physically hurt. Not only that, his entire conversation with Leo before sending him to his new sensei is about how he, Splinter, did not understand the extent of Leo's problems until then, further implying that it was not planned.

Maybe so, but Leonardo didn't actually win against Splinter either. It was only a training match and Splinter was trying to teach, not compete, so he was going easy on him, and thereby risked getting hurt, even if it was unintentional.

Leo had no intention of hurting Splinter. It was an accident. Splinter knew that an accident like that COULD happen, especially given Leo's rage (although with weapons, accidents can always happen even if you are careful). Splinter probably had a suspicion, hence he did not fight Leo back, and the accident confirmed this suspicion. This clinched that Leo was so traumatized that the next step would have likely involved Leo hurting himself- and thus Splinter needed to send him away to heal.

I stand corrected. Thank you big bad. In regards to the Splinter/Leo thing, yes, it was a lesson, but it also got out of hand, which Splinter did NOT expect. It was training, how could it get out of hand? Remember Raph and Mike sparring in "Meet Casey Jones"? That was sparring, it could get out of hand, granted, it's not supposed to. There's a risk getting hurt no matter what, but if you're training someone, there's less of a risk I think. Accidents could always happen, no matter waht you're doing, so to say Splinter was expecting it is folly. Splinter didn't fight back because they were training. (Leo said "I've mastered this lesson, and the lesson before it, and the lesson before that..") I think Splinter was using the training to help Leo relax and just go through some familar steps and allow Leo to open up. Remember, Splinter had already tried to get Usagi to help as well, which almost worked. That's why Splinter was having casual conversation during a familar lesson. That's just my two cents though.
