View Full Version : What Kind of Comic Fan are You??

I think my fan-ship of a certain character depends on my mood (dark and brooding: Batman or Daredevil, bright and happy: Spider-Man, etc.)
So what kind of comic fan are you??
I'm a wise-cracking SOB at times, so Savage Dragon fits the bill there. Then there are times when I want to kill some assh*les, so I read Spawn. Then, whenever I'm feeling patriotic and noble, I pick up some G.I. Joe. But, when all of life's problems get me down and I have nowhere else to turn, good ol' Spidey is always there to save the day. So I guess you could say I'm a mixed bag collector.

hmm I usually only pic up DC titles and TMNT. Mainly Batman and now that they got a decent writer again (i hate you bill willingham) Robin.
I was really into HARDTIME when it was still being published (rip:cry: ) and would occasionally pick up random issues of green lantern, flash, and green arrow.
I only strayed into the marvel universe when orson scott card was writing ultimate iron man.
so i guess you could say i read dark-ish stuff.

I'm in a different group all together. I try to pick up comics with good stories, ones that will keep me wanting more so I'm willing to read just about anything. But some times I'll pick up a comic because of a certain refrence I need for a character due to me needing to draw them.

I have certain characters I love and those are the books I go with, usually. Spider-Man, Nightwing and Supergirl are my main fandoms.

I always figured Supergirl was a comic written for a female audience but I have never read it.
Strictly tmnt for me. Mirage and archie. and image

It's not really written for any specific gender actually.

I used to be the kind of superhero fan who tried to get his hands on every book I could find but at some point I got so annoyed by the endless returns of dead characters and neverending storylines that I stopped buying ongoing series altogether. Today I only buy mini-series or creator-owned books, you know, stuff that actually ENDS at some point instead of repeating and contradicting itself forever.

That's the good thing about being a Supergirl fan. She's never had a series that's gone longer than 100 issues. I know it'll end at some point, then I can buy a different book for a few years in it's place.

I'm an on-again, off-again comic fan. I usually buy Ultimate Spider-man, TMNT, Usagi, and Hulk. But I don't buy them when they come out...I wait till a convention and try to get them in the dollar box (almost have all the Usagis using this method). I'm also trying to complete Spectacular Spider-man this way.It takes me about a year to read all the comics I get from a show (usually about 50 or so)..whereas it used to take me days back when I had no responsibilities.
I don't have many "real life" friends who are into comics. Most of my friends have lost interest over the years or stopped collecting. For me, it's someting fun to do for a change.

I'm the kind of comic book fan who runs his own site with 15000 readers every day. I have an awesome team of about fifteen people working on the site and it's an awesome experience. On August first, we releaunched with a new site, new forums and new everything. We cover everything, from Marvel to obscure publisher XYZ and we are downright awesome, if I dareso myself.
If you want to, you can check out The Independent Comics Site! (www.independentcomicssite.net) I'd be happy to see some familiar faces over there.

You already have one.
And I prefer graphic novels in general but I don't mind little flirtations with superhero stuff from time to time.

Oh, we don't cover just superhero-stuff, we cover sequential art in general. And if you can draw, or are an aspiring artist, we're happy to spotlight your art way off places like DeviantArt that has like a billion submissions every day. Also, you'd get media exposure.

As much as I like Spiderman and Batman, I tend to gravitate towards more whimsical grand adventure type things, Like Carl Barks's Uncle Scrooge comics and Asterix the Gaul. SAme thing with manga. I prefer the early Dragon Balls to Z, and I just love One Piece and Dr. Slump.
I also love cartoon memorabilia comics. Ones based off shows. I think newer ones do a great job of matching the writing on the shows, but some old ones (like a Yogi bear I read once) did a terrible job of mimicking the styles of the cartoons.

When I was a kid I was pretty much a Marvel-lover. I watched DC comic cartoons and movies but never bought the comics (with an allowance of 50cents a week I could only afford two comics a month, both of which were X-Men titles).
But I now I spread myself out as wide as possible and I tend not to read comics based solely on who publishes. Though in regards to universes, I do go through "kicks". I'll get in a DC kick and get as many TPBs as I can and then I'll get in a Marvel kick and do the same.
Lately I've been in a Marvel kick and I'm reading more of their books and buying more of their TPBs than DC's. I kinda fell outta DC after the Infinite Crisis. I felt it was a good place to jump off at and I cancelled nearly all my DC subscriptions. My Marvel subscriptions are rather limited, too, and I usually steer clear of titles that have huge event tie-ins since I'm just sick to death of those at this point.

In a way, I am kind of like that too--I always gravitate between DC and Marvel. Right now I guess I'm a DC person...and if Spidey and the She-Hulk were DC characters, I'd always be a DC person...

Max Marvel Punisher, Ghost Rider volume 3, Ultimate X-men, as well as assorted Dare Devil, TMNT, Spider-man, and Batman. My favorite crossover ever was The Secret Wars.

I'll have to check out your site when I have time Anarky.
Here are a few trends I noticed in my reading:
1. If I like the cartoon/show/movie, I'll check out the comic. This is how I started collecting pretty much everything really - Transformers, G.I. Joe, TMNT, Uncle Scrooge, Wonder Woman, Star Trek, X-Men, Batman, Highlander, Rurouni Kenshin, Green Arrow. If I see a comic book character in some other medium and I like it, I'll then give the comic a try. Also if my favorite show is canceled and they make a comic of it I can continue reading the adventures of my favorite characters.
2. I like mutants/strong family groups - TMNT, X-Men, and what little I've read of Fantastic 4.
3. I like non-superpowered, Robin Hood inspired heroes - Zorro, Batman, Green Arrow, The Phantom, Arwyn from Sojourn.
4. Strong female heroines - this catagory was the first I had as a kid and seems to be making a comeback lately with me getting old issues of Amethyst, reading the Huntress Darknight Daughter trade, and wanting to check out Simone's upcoming Wonder Woman.
I was more of a DC person as little kid (ah the days of Linda Carter and Superfriends), got obsessed with Marvel X-Men in my teens only to feel like Barkworm in recent years. The death of Cable (one of my favorite chracters) was the final blow for me. And Wolverine, my other favorite, has grown pretty stale after all these years. So I'm shifting back over to DC which I know I'll tire of someday but for now I'm greatly looking forward to the Green Arrow/Black Canary wedding, especially since Marvel seems to hate married couples these days (Jean&Scott, Reed&Sue, Spidey&MJ forever!), so I don't like Marvel much these days.:x
I am currently enjoying Green Arrow, TMNT, IDW's Transformers, Dynamite's Highlander as well as their upcoming Zorro, Buso Renkin, (and until very recently Cable & Deadpool). :)

TMNT started out as a satrical book too actually. Maybe that's part of the reason you enjoy them.;) I agree the Tick is pretty awesome. I also love Darkwing Duck for its satire too.

I mainly follow characters as opposed to writer/artist. Most of my collection is Batman and X-Men. The only time I've really followed a writer was when I looked for more books written by Alan Moore, like his misc. DC stories.
