That was just beautiful.

Everything you could want in a TMNT show. All the action and humor you've come to expect. It begins well, and it ends well.

We get to see a ncie fight with the Foot clan, Saki is introduced at the very end, but not as the Shredder; he isn't wearing his armor. I dread to think what he did to that Purple Dragon!

There's also a joke about 'cowabunga' near the end, whcich those who don't like the old show should enjoy.

Man. It's gonna be torture waiting for next Saturday. This is a perfect series, and I mean perfect.

By hey, I also agree, I think this episode had a good start. A lot of moments seemed familar, be it from the comic or even the first movie. But then it had some cool twists. Like Raph's encouter with "Murphy's Law" thus ending up trapped in a armored truck. Heheh... also I knew that truck was gonna be the future turtle vehicle the minute I saw it. Cracks me up at times how Raph just picks the stuffing out of Mike too.

I like the overall as well. Details on the city, buildings, sewers, etc. They also do well drawing humans and the action. But my only complaint... the Turtles no longer look as "sessy" as they did in the promo ads. :( I mean... they, they... looked pregnant. Or that they seem to be wearing Golden Underwear. Noooo... not the GU look! :tsweatdr:

Oh well, that little asthetic detail aside, I loved this episode and I can wait to see more! Whoo-hoo! :thyper:

Wow, it's over, and that was seriously one of the best turtle episodes I have ever seen. The animation is brilliant, the comedy is perfect... lol, for example...

Spliter was leading the turtles to their new layer, and he was like... "walk this way" .. and Mikey started walking slowly like an old man, and then Raph hit him. it was hilarious!!!!!!! total genius!!!

I have complete faith in the new show, I'm DEFINATELY going to watch them all, and wake up early ever Saturday, it's more than worth it. Dare I say, better than the original.

It's starting from scratch all over again, brand new story, brand new everything - they just stole their soon-to-be turtle van, they haven't met April yet, and there was not even a mention of pizza. They'll probably find it soon, they're still new to the streets.

Another funny thing, in the cgi pilot they make fun of "Cowabunga" by covering Mikey's mouth before he finishes... and in this first episode, he was in the middle of yelling it, and Raph knocked him into a hole in the ground... GREAT STUFF!!!!!

YOU HAVE TO SEE IT IF YOU MISSED IT!!!! Don't worry, those that didn't catch it.. You still got the rerun next week, and it'll be all over the internet I'm sure!!!!

the episode was hilarious, action filled and purely awesome . . . oh and they showed clips of the next episode. baxter sends mousers to attack April and i guess the turtles will save her . . .

It was REALLY good! I love Mikey! And I loved the part of when Leo extunguished the candle, that was done really good to show how he's the best trained out of all of them. And Raph taking charge by going up to the street. And I liked when Leo pulled Raph away from the falling ceiling

Great to see the Mirage logo at the end credits...

banshee, your in luck. just as the ep ended it said theythey will air it again next week at 8:30(for where i live anyway.) as for my opinion of the episode: AWESOME. it greatly exceeded my expectations. I even laughed out loud at mike responding to splinter's "walk this way." they actually used their weapons! all in all it was great and i can't wait till next week!

It's still an interesting choice not to develop who our main bad guy is in the first ep. Even a shot of him at the end wondering who the turtles are or something.
Anyone else think it's funny that about half the post in this thread are at 10:00 (or whatever time it is where you are)? I started typing the minute the show ended, and when I posted, I was already on page 2 :lol:

As long as the show's stay with that calibur quality, it is a sure hit, definately the second coming of the turtles. I celebrated with my girl, she came over and we bought donny and leo figures last night, made turtle t-shirts this morning, and had our turtle toys watch, it was an awesome time and well worth the anticipation!!!

It is totally capturing the turtles how I like them to be captured. I LOVE how a lot seems to be taken from the movie too, and the old school comics... definately the best Turtles cartoons yet.

Funny thing for you, not for me:

Our old VCR died, so we got a new one last year (and a DVD player at the same time) and I didnt need it to any shows so far, so TMNT was the first thing I recorded on this VCR, so I had NO idea what I was doing. It was scary tho because on the first commercial i pushed pause, then when it came back I didnt know what to press LMFAO! so i was just pushing every button hoping I would get the right one, turns out all i had to do was push play :goofygri: :dead: Well i'm gonna go watch the tape, cya :D :D :D

It was kind of interesting how they showed that fight with the Purple Dragons....they just showed them falling into a pile, not really focusing on the violence, not showing the Turtles actually hitting them.

AWSOME!!!!!! :o The show is so awsome!!!!! It has humor, but not to much. The fighting scences are good(a lot more than the old toon)and they actually fought instead of making jokes. One thing I really enjoy were the turtles relationships. Raph is always picking on mikey, and mikey is always picking on raph. It was a very interesting episode but I bet future episodes will be a lot better. We didnt get to see baxter, Hun april, and shredder(well for about 20 sec). But thats ok cause I didnt expect to see everyone. I cant wait until next saturday, it cant come soon enough!!!!!

I tried to record it, but my cable chord decided to be a jerk, and mess up during the beginning and intro (Only the picture. THE INTRO WAS NEARLY EXACTLY LIKE TMNT 1 COMIC!!!!!!!) I missed when they were trying to get the candle, and it came back right when Leo gets it. At least I got most of the episode on tape. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE RELEASE THIS AWESOME SERIES ON DVD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Now I wish my figures looked more like the animated versions..... :cry:

I thought calling the new turtlecom the "Shell Cell" was a bit much. It just symbolizes how spoiled kids are today. I mean, I used to think that my school had spoiled kids; EVERYBODY has a cell phone except me, and it's sickening! But now I hear that friggin' ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KIDS have them now!!!! I'm sorry for my cynicism, but that's just my whole view.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand.

Alright, so the episode starts out with Splinter talking about how the ninja can only be succesful by being illuminated or something like that. He asks if any of the turtles can blow out the candle without revealing their identity. Don, Mike, and Raph (respectively) all fail. Leo has been waiting atop the roof just above Splinter all that time. He succeeds. Raph calls him a "sensei's pet" or something, Leo calls Raph a "ninja dropout". You can guess what Splinter's reaction is...

I don't want to type forever (the encode was just finished!), so I'll come back with comments later...

OMG. I have to say that it was AWESOME!! I loved every aspect of the show. The action, artwork, and even the voices!!! I was brought up on TMNT watching the old toon, and I have to say this kicks it's Shell!!!

Okay I jaw it about an hour ago!!!!! I just had to rewatch it to fully bask in its.... uh...... awesomeness!!!!
It was really incredible!! I loved it!! Splinter wasn't as bad as I expected at all, in fact it beat my expectations in all respects!!
Anyone who doesn't know the origin story is bound to be preety confused though :lol: , I'm sure they will go over it in the next episode!!
I liked the little Shredder ending!! Or Oroku Saki ending for that matter! :evilgrin:
Some of the action was cheap though like when Raph kept dodging the foot kicks so easily.
I liked how Mikey kept messing around and Raph kept yelling at him, speaking of which is it just me or did it sound like Raph had been smoking way too many cigarrettes? :lol:
The beggining like the start of the first book was great. the purple dragons were alright. And the fight with the Foot was also awesome!!

not to flame you, but if you act around your brother like you do here, bashing the new toon and praising the old one, its not any supprise that he wanted to watch the old one.

i personally like this one more than the old one. this, IMHO, is how the first toon should have been.

granted that the original toon was great for its time... but this one is hands down better. the comedy isn't so random and pointless, its there for a reason other than being silly now. The Foot are stronger so far, the turtles each have more personality to them.

Well, my reception on the TV wasn't the best...but damn I loved the new cartoon! Splinter wasn't totally old and decrepit, the jokes were pretty good, the Foot actually fought, and we have distinct personalities showing through!

I'm still not too keen on the theme song, though I loved the intro today. Straight out of Mirage! I eagerly await next week.

Hey Gwgtrunks i have never bashed the new toon i have never said it was stupid or sucked or pathethic as some people have done to the old show. All i have I have said is i like mutants and bebop & rocksteadsy and stuff and thats because i'm nostalgic and gunna miss it. I don't thinks it bad for me to praise the show i loved.

I really enjoyed the show it was good the only funny thing i laughed was when splinter kept saying hello to the shell-cell. The turtles were awesome and Mikey whos my fav turtle was awesome.

And my brother likes what he sees first. He really likes He-Man too and when he saw the old show on this tape he got with this guy he didn't like it either. He liked the new show first because he saw it first.

I agree with just about all the positives on here. I think the foot's new black/grey costumes look better than the purple ones and the small glimpse of Shredder and Casey in the opening theme looked really f'n cool! The little feud that Mike and Raph have is great and I love those little japanese animation style action clips when the turtles draw and strike their weapons. All in all, I couldn't of asked for a better first show, this brings me back to the 4th grade, I almost wanna bust out my turtle toys from the closet :)

Just saw it an hour ago...been waiting a LONG time for a new TMNT. I will say the new theme song SUCKS ASS(nothing beats the old one) but I like some of the psuedo cinematic style(letterboxing) and slight anime influence. The fact they finally showed some real turtle to advesary action(the foot clan scene)
was cool. The Eastman/Laird cameo was cool...the intro is freaking awesome. The preview clip was great, and damn if April doesnt look hot. Baxter looks cool too.

But...

You know, about all those anti old cartoon remarks...um, yeah, sorry about that.

Firstly, let us not kid ourselves...those backgrounds SUCK ASS! I mean holy crap those are bad...did anybody else notice how poorly drawn and over simplistic those were? I did like the chemistry of the turtles...some of the turtles sounded like old men, but I liked their chemistry together.
Lots of nods and winks to stuff in what they said.

Btw, not every episode of TMNT is gonna take place at night right? I mean Im all for girtty, but dang man...have the sun come up now and then.

Finally, I remember the first episode of the first TMNT. That was epic as hell(the highrise thing explodign with water and the last minute slide down)

Heh, well I just saw the first episode...I had to tape it because I wasn't here at 10:30...so I saw it at like 12:30....

I am guessing most of you wanted to see my opinion on this episode, since I was the one bashing on it the most, lmao...

I gotta say, it beat my expectations by a whole lot...I had my doubts, now they aren't here as much, this show was a definate way to start the series off, and I think it will draw attention to those who will follow the whole series...so basically each episode will get a larger audience until they do something wrong, which doesn't look like it will happen soon I hope.

Anyway, on to the show....The story was not as good as I thought it would be, but how much of a story can you really do in the first episode? They didn't say anything about the tmnt origin which I bet will confuse intelligent people that are new to the show....I think every other aspect more than made up for this loss though...The acting....well that was good for the voices, I still have to get used to the new voices, but they utilized their acting skills great! Don needs more of a character though...but I think that will soon change..Raph-horrible voice, but great acting, love it....Mike is pretty good too....Leo reminds me of Raph in the old one, at least the voice somewhat...I love Splinter, he does not joke around and he tells everything as is, great.

Good things about the show: Hilarious comedy, seriously I thought the comedy portion would gear to a younger audience but it proved otherwise...Action-great action for the most part, which really helps out the popularity in today's society, so I am glad that that factor is in there....Another thing is everything seems to flow easily, so I am assuming the series will just continue like one big story, which is good for the older audience, I just hope they throw some random single episodes out there, maybe to cover something a little better that they haven't covered....and to take a break from the series, anyway another thing is that the plot isn't as predictable as most plots are in cartoons in general, so that was good...The turtles also acted more like ninjas, not just putting on a disguise, but using stealth instead.

Bad things about the show: Purple Dragon gang seemed to be just a bunch of wimpy thugs that have no strength, they didn't even land a punch or anything, something I hate to see in cartoons, oh well, I have yet to see Hun so maybe this will change....mousers just pop out of no where, but hey, at least it leaves room for surprise I guess, again the story factor, but I hope that will change....they also didn't have battle song themes, or any other type of theme, they should really add the themes, it makes it more addicting to watch.....

Things I hope to happen or just random speculations: I really hope the purple dragons are not allied with shredder and his "gang" if you will, but just against the turtles in their own seperate ways, so that leaves room for a "gray" type of alliance I guess, meaning like it won't be just one side against the other, I hope there will be several sides, and more story in the purple dragon gang members, not as a whole. Oh, also it seemed like shredder was using some type of mutagen maybe..? Maybe he will turn that PD member into a monster of some sort? Who knows...anyway, I also hope Don invents more machines, and I mean a lot...love that stuff....More references to the old show, that was a great addition to this one....wow, I was not expecting Mike to say something like I don't want to have to see your butt longer than I have too, that was great, also the way he imitated splinter and was making the chase after the van seem like a race...I love the art, the PD gang looked great, love the outfits, looks like a gang, also the foot are now like gray-black, not purple or pink, lol....I can't wait to see what their new home will look like too, shell cell was clever, and the way that splinter was having trouble, brought the point across that he was old, lol....

Only a few things to worry about now....first of course I hope the show keeps getting better, I think they drew enough attention already, another major thing will be the parent's reaction....people will be mighty pissed if they make the action crummy or take weapons away or change costumes or something, keep it as is, sheesh....I hope FOX likes it, or if they don't, maybe another station will pick it up....

It's called Style. It's like someone saying the backdrops in Samurai Jack suck because they aren't painstaikingly detailed. The new show has a special look to it that diversifies it from all the other cartoons out there. They use the color blue a lot and a lot of jagged edges. So in that sense, no, I don't think the background suck at all.

TMNT Old school may have had an epic beginning, but it soon-after dwindled into fart jokes and "what will Shredder do this time". It's epicness was realized small-scale in a 3-episode opener. This new series will span a 26 episode epic that will destroy everything that came before it (if this first episode is anything to go by).

The way I feel is...I loved the old toon as a kid. Now I love the new toon as an adult.

yea... why did the foot suddenly attack them... where did the mousers come from... how did they become mutated turtles... come on they didnt address these issues at all. I mean they will probably explain their origin when they encounter April, but seriously why did the foot just attack them for no reason.

That is how most people should feel Prowl, again I can't stress this enough....you can't compare the old show with the new show....it isn't accurate, 2 completeley different times...I thought this tmnt so far was good for this time, and that the old tmnt was good for its time. Ah whatever, it could have been mutagen, like to trick you or something, but whatever, that would be clever if he turned him into a monster or something.... :lol: maybe he can be PDbop... :roll: :wink:

Well it was awsome as you can tell from the 11 page review. Hope everyone enjoyed it, I have watched it twice so far and after the original broadcast I stood at the top of the stairs and screamed COWABU (then my dad pushed me down the stairs) just kiddin. I taped it, and it came out good but I was wondering if I should re tape it next week by stoping the vcr in between commercials. Should this be done or leave it the way it is? Did anybody miss chunks of the cartoon while trying to start and stop in between commercials? By the way the figures look exactly like the cartoon.

I never liked painted backgrounds... but I like the new ones. With painted backgrounds, the animated characters don't blend in as seamlessly. But I think they do with the CG ones.

And I don't think 'epic' is really the style of the new TMNT series. What in the comic books was 'epic'? They fought the Dragons in a dark alley, not a skyscraper.

Again, the night thing: they're ninjas, they move under cover of darkness. And in the comic book (which this series is based on, mind you) the battle with the Dragons took place at night. Oh yeah, and you've only seen one episode, how do we know it's always going to take place at night?

Yea I noticed that about the figures too. I couldnt believe the cartoons didnt have any eyeballs like the old one. Oh well I wouldn't start and stop the recordings you could easily miss some chunks and it lowers the quality of the tape.

My childhood fondness of the turtles is back! I recorded the episode on my digital camcorder so I can watch it anytime,anywhere. :D

Yeah I didnt care for that...its a big aspect of kiddy anime I cant stand...that still posing with speed lines in the background(like Ultimate Muscle) Well, we all endured sitting through endless crappy commercials for those Fox Box garbage shows, heh.

I thought calling the new turtlecom the "Shell Cell" was a bit much. It just symbolizes how spoiled kids are today. I mean, I used to think that my school had spoiled kids; EVERYBODY has a cell phone except me, and it's sickening! But now I hear that friggin' ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KIDS have them now!!!! I'm sorry for my cynicism, but that's just my whole view..

Yeah I HATE cell phones vehemently and thought it was heresy calling the turtle com a cell phone...but then I realize it was *hopefully* just a site gag.

I will say I was very happy by the more violent edge...sure they blacked out the Purple Dragon scene, but not the Foot Clan fighting, or the mosuer fights. And I cant recall a TMNT episode ending in someone's execution...damn!

I cannot stress how VERY joyed I am by the Turtles/Splinter dialogues. Unlike the old toon, its smart, and some thought was put into it.
Also it was wayyyy closer to the old Mirage series than that goofy old cartoon. But something felt a bit static about it. I truly feel those backgrounds...oh man, I dont even know the words for how bad they are.
I mean Spiderman the Fox Kids series had more detailed backgrounds.

But if I had to pick two things that stand out about this new series, well three things:

*Faithful to the old comic(I mean a death scene at the end, man!)
*Lots of serious action, more than ya see on most kids cartoons
*The TMNT chemistry is top notch. Humor mixed with great dialogue and moments, and Splinter is as wise and great as ever.

yea i watched it once when i was recording it, and i just finished the 5th time, so ive watched it 6 times in total, and i will be watching it twice next saturday for sure. I have to re-record the first episode cuz i kinda screwed up on the first part, but thats ok i have another chance :wink:

Yea, eye, everyone is entitled to their opinion...if all we hear is I loved the show, we wouldn't know what type of complaints there are and what would make the show even better, so keep that in mind...beaker I happen to agree with you on two things; the new theme song..which is just an embarrassment, complete torture, and the scene where they showed each turtle seperately was again derived from crap anime that will get old and make the popularity drop...if they add a battle theme like the old one, it could change, hopefully for the better.

Oh another speculation, anyone see how Splinter whipped that one mouser with his tail? That was AMAZING...loved it! I wonder if he will get a new walking stick though, hehe.... :wink:

The way they drew the turtles shells drives me nuts too, cause it does not match how they drew them in the promos. But I guess that's me, cuase no one else seems to be bothered by it. :roll:

Man, I hate being three hours behind...

OMG!!! This is the most amazing thing I've ever seen. I LOVE IT!!! I managed to tape it, but I'm not sure how it came out. I tried to stop recording at the commercials but it wouldn't let me, I hope I didn't mess it up. I loved everything about this show. I was laughing every few minutes (not really good for my throat, but what are you gonna do?) and was blown away by the action. Too cool!

I'm am pleased. It's a great retelling of the original comics. Some lines were taken directly from it actually. "He's wrong... we're not wearing costumes" is a good example.

I wouldn't say it's a SERIOUS cartoon, but it does have good action (action like the Jackie Chan cartoons only with less fumbles).

I look forward to watching all 26 episodes (and taping them). 4kids better get a DVD of this out. With at least 3 (preferably 4) on each disc.

Yeah those were two of my biggest complaints...that new theme song is pure torture...the old one was magical and very very enthralling. And yeah, that very kiddy anime esque 'show the turtles with speed lines posing before a battle' garbage is unwatchable.

But I am just floored how 'violent' som eit was. Hats off to the writing team! And that intro...damn...way too cool. I think we can all agree besides the closer to the original comic book tone, the best part was the chemistry of the turtles. good stuff. IMHO the first episode was ok...but I am very encouraged by spoilers and stuff Im reading about episodes to come.

At any rate, ITS GOOD TO HAVE OUR GREEN GUYS BACK!

And dammit, when the heck are the posters and shirts coming out???
