I was watching the 3-part Shredder/Krang/Dregg episodes and I noticed something. During this series, it seems Shredder and Krang really cared for each other at this point. There were lots of times where Shredder could have just abandoned Krang to escape on his own, but he'd always come back for him and carry him around. Then the big one, he actually gave Krang a life-force transfusion without a second thought, and Krang actually thanked him instead of pulling out another insult. I guess over time they really became friends.
Another thing, you just gotta feel sorry for Krang during all this. Yeah, I know he's a bad guy and all that, but he never really had a chance to do anything evil in those episodes. All we see is this poor defenseless brain that can't really do much if he's ever out of his Bubble Walker, and he always has to be carried around and stuff. And he looked so weak and was making these pitiful sounds when Dregg was stealing his life force.

I would make that sounds too if someone would be stealing my lifeforce. :p
But yeah, maybe it's just that krang is indeed pretty helpless with only a bubblewalker and no technodrome. Insulting the only partner you have might be not very smart in that situation...and we all know krang IS smart
(allthough the fact that he used his hypnotic skills there for the first time makes me wonder why he wasn't so smart to use it in the 150 episodes before ^°).

Throughout the series, Krang and Shredder were a parody of a bickering married couple. They often partook in nothing fights much like a married couple would and acted like they were in deed a couple. They did in fact care for each other and showed during those red sky eps.

okay, ew x 10000000000000! bad images in my brain!!
When I first watched those eps, I was really surprised that Shredder actually cared at all about Krang, never mind giving him some of his life force. Maybe they went to couples counselling and their "marriage" was made stronger :P
I always enjoyed the fact that they were a parody of a married couple. That's what made them so hilarious. It was nice to see they actually did care about each other at the end.

Yeah It's kindo cool in an odd married couple kinda way. This is what made this Shredder unique from all the other incarnations where he was a manipulating bad ass ninja guy, (older movies and Mirage Comics), or just plain evil and heartless (Tengu Shredder and Utrom Shredder).
Let's say for example that Utrom Shredder were in the same situation. He would probably rip Krang to shredds ( no pun intended). I mean look at what he did to Stockman. I remember first watching this episode and thinking, wow he didn't just leave him there? He must really not be that bad.

yah I noticed that too. Season 3 they really were a bickering couple and more than once Shredder wanted to betray Krang. remember in Get Shredder when Shredder told the Turtles to get Krang back (he was captured by Beserko and Shredder thought they captured him) or else he would blow up Channel 6 (which he did anyway).
Maybe Shredder was just frustrated in Season 3 about being stuck in the earths' core. He wasn't exactly stuck anywhere else before. :P
I do agree with them being a married couple though, perhapes Krang being the lazy bloke and Shredder being the woman. Krang never seemed to do anything but tell Shredder what to do and never getting it right (in Shredders' eyes). Shredder should have ended his conversations with the phrase: "You just don't get it do you." ;)

Krang seems more like the woman to me (he even watches soaps).
Compare it to 'married with children': krang (peggy) sits home (technodrome) all day and watches on his screen while shredder (al) has to do the annoying frustrating work all the time and gets blamed for everything when coming home.
The only difference is that they have two kelly bundys... :p
