There are many weird things out there, like pizza with spaghetti topping or movies about killer tomatos. In the comic book world I'd guess that the weirdest thing to date is "Loaded Bible" or "Swing with Scooter." Now, Tyndale House Publishers takes the cup with their newest project, coming this fall: The Manga Bible!

Source, picture and further info (http://independentcomicssite.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=98&Itemid=31)

Now if that isn't the weirdest thing I've ever read. Of course, it's only logical to make a manga bible to have the Word spread out to more people, but the concept alone sounds so outlandish, it hurts. Besides, I kind of feel like this is a PR-thing and not really something they want to do out of faith. But that's just what my gut tells me.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. What's so wrong with the normal bible?

The appauling lack of Hentai for Adam and Eve for one thing.

Soon the fangirls will be putting Cain/Moses slash art up on DeviantArt and writing erotic fanfiction about them.

I reported this over at Forever Geek yesterday, (http://forevergeek.com/entertainment/manga_bible_on_the_way.php) along with my shocking revelation as to Manga Jesus' true identity.

Manga Bible??? Eh why not... Bible's already been translated into Klingon and there's the Bible done in Lego people webcomic (which I actually love cuz it shows how fraked up the Bible truly is).
http://www.thebricktestament.com/

But a Manga? Well maybe it'll show that Cain ended up with one of his sisters?

Seriously tho...anybody read Chronicles of Wormwood?? Jesus has brain damage and all the Pope does is frak with nuns.

I have a friend who would probably really get into this. I'll have to tell him about it next time I'm on the phone with him. It's the ultimate geek/religion mix for his geeky religious self!

I don't believe the sincerity of it. It feels like a way to make a quick buck using something that is currently a fad. It feels as sincere as if they did Transformers Bible.

Jesus people. I've seen so many comic books, cartoons and video games based on the Bible so far. Manga Bible ain't anything much different really.

Except that it's in Japanese as well as English.

:|

Really, combining the bible with anything that isn't the bible is a bit...well, wrong, for me. It's like force-feeding the religion down people's throats. I know that this is probably not the case, and some people were just trying to get their message out there with a new media, but...really, I still can't help but feel like a little emo girl crying while slashing at her wrists with a rusty knife. It's just wrong for me. And the fact that I'm an avid manga reader doesn't help the matters either :ohwell:

Manga is a Japanese version of a comic. This means that pretty much 99% percent of all manga you read. This manga about the bible has been drawn by some of Japan's most popular manga artists, and that usually means that it's going to be released in Japanese as well as English (Although I have a slight feeling that the bible is already in Japanese. Ever so slight feeling :|).
I think you're exaggerating way too much :|
Yeah, you're probably right

Has anyone here ever seen or heard of the Picture Bible? It's a Bible in essentially a Marvel comic-esque form. I see nothing wrong with a Bible in comic book form, makes it more accessible to comic geeks, and it's not forcing it on anyone...cause you don't have to read a comic book any more than you'd read the actual Bible.

Now that was not tasteful at all, Zarius. Naughty, naughty....

Seriously though, I don't see this as a joke. It is sad if this is being done soley to make money. But if it is used as a witnessing tool for anime-niacs, then I see no problem with it.

I have comics of Bible stories from years back... Adam And Eve, Samson, and Moses.

The Adam and Eve one's kinda fraked tho cuz it puts them in modern times. :/

Speaking of which...anybody read "Lost Books of Eve"??? It's a pretty good indie comic. Basically Adam has been kidnapped so Eve leaves Eden to go out and find him...she encounters all sorts of creatures (like Golems) and has the help of a Cherubae.

I don't see it as a joke either, I see it as a PR-Gag or a moneymaker. You see, if someone's really interested in the bible he or she will get the real bible, not some manga-adaptation. The nerds themselves probably won't bother with it since it's too religious. Ever met an overly religious nerd who hasn't read the bible?

So what's left then? The fundamental christians who buy everything that has "Jesus" written on it. Of course, they know the Bible already and of course they believe already so they buy it to have it. As a sort of collector's item, thus it's essentially moneymaking and nothing else.

Besides, comic books of all kind really aren't the greatest thing to get anyone to believe anything. If we look at the manga sector alone, there's too much existential bollocking around to last us all a lifetime. Just look at "Neon Genesis Evangelion:" It has the coolest robot fights ever, but they're talking about why everyone's here and where God is at and all that stuff relentlessly. So getting any kind of moral point across is practically impossible, since the getting-point-acrossing has been bastardized to begin with. What we're left with is a sad attempt to be cool and to fit the mood of the times.

Basically, what I want to say is that I really can't see anyone who's not a devout Christian buy this.

They could be putting their talent into so many other things. I mean...not to offend anyone, but the Bible has been done MILLIONS of times...do we really need another?

I would think of getting a comic book Bible if it was illustrated by Alex Ross. Maybe.
