I was just wondering what the rest of the TMNT faithful had to say about the new animation/look of our favorite adolescent mutants. Personally, I very much like the new look.

That was the best animated TMNT ever on screen. The fight scenes really rocked!

Hmmm...I just looked at your avatar, and Baxter, for some odd reason, reminds me of Jay from the Men in Black cartoon. :goofygri:

It was awsome. They're expressions weren't very amazing though. Both the old toon and the movie's had far better expressions.
I wouldn't say it's the best animated TMNT I've ever seen. I'm still quite partial to the animation used in the first episode of the original series. It was good stuff (for the turtles at least, I guess the humans didn't look very good). The new one had much better quality, but the old one has the style!

Before I saw the show, I only liked the turtles. The humans look to much like MIB/Jacky Chan Adventures style(yeah I know, it's done by the same guys). I really didn't like the backgrounds either, but after I saw the show it starting to grow on me. Heck I thought Casey looks cool. I saw those sneak previews on the offical site and I thought it was lame, but when I saw him in the intro I thought it was great.

I love the new animation. Very smooth. I like how the backgrounds are dark. Gives the show a cool atmosphere. :D

I felt that the animation was very well done.

It's a mixed bag. I mean obviously those backgrounds are non existent(not in a Hanna Barbara stylish simplicity, but in a we dont have the time or money to make anything but simple crappy lines)
So yeah, the backgrounds suck arse...imagine if the new show was done in
the style of the that new Animatrix short(or Final Fantasy film style)
But that's neither here nor there. So while the backgrounds are pretty unappealing, the character designs and animation itself is pretty cool for this type of budget/non cable thing. I mean its no invader zim or HBO Spawn, but its good.
I particularly like how it goes to letterbox widescreen now and then for that cinematic style. And I was very very worried they were gonna pull a censor crap by not showing nay violence contact(as what happened with the Purple Dragon fight...that was just cheesey) but it was very cool it actually showed em kicking some ass against the foot.
TMNT is cooler than MOTU

I think it's a big improvement compared to the original. But, the backgrounds could use a little work.

Are you kiding me?!?? I think its only because we have only seen bits of them so far. But man look at casey in the intro & you can just see the pain in his eyes!!
The pain & the "I'm gona take it out on you bub" look   (HAHAI Love the   )

I felt that it was nice to see no mistakes such as wrong voices among the characters, like with the original cartoon. For instance, Don would have Raph's voice in the first cartoon. I felt that was crazy to happen with a cartoon.

Yeah it was funy, And I have not seen another cartoon with so many mistakes!

I love the new art style, it suits them perfectly. I MUCH prefer seeing the TMNT more "built" and muscle-bound, than how they were before.

Yeah, and Im really excited about the fact that they are Ninjas now. The old show totally lacked the Ninja aspect.

Yeah. I mean what kind of ninja goes out in public at the middle of the day, especially when they're turtles. (Example: in the 1988 season)
Eye of Sarnath
02-10-2003, 01:18 PM
Yes... I don't mind that it always seems to be night, they're ninjas, the use the cover of darkness. Oh yeah, and it's somewhat unlikely that they would go out in broad daylight and not be noticed by anyone.
Being invisible doesn't mean not being in public. The guy standing next to you waiting for the light to change so he can cross the street might be a ninja, and you'd never know. It's all about not drawing attention to yourself.
The problem was that the turtles practically advertised themselves in the old cartoon. They tried to keep a low profile but eventually they'd reveal themselves a lot more than was needed. I mean, a van that looks like a turtle with giant lasers on it!?!
Unfortunately, the turtles can't just blend in with the general public, even in trenchcoats, there's only so far they can take it.

Yeah... some guy with green feet and hands is bound to attract attention.

Yes, and like Mirage, the show will happen mostly durning the night.

I always wondered how in the first movie, Raphael wasn't noticed seeing that he had only a hat and a trench coat on as a disguise. I mean c'mon, New York isn't THAT messed up.
Actually, most people are unbelievably oblivious to what goes on around them. If it's not important or bothering them, they ignore it. A giant turtle would probably be noticed, but if they couldn't immediately tell he was a turtle, hey, it's not their problem.
In the first movie, Raph flips over the cab hood and the passenger goes, "What the heck was that?" And the driver replies, "Looked like a giant turtle, in a trenchcoat. You going to LaGaurdia(sp?), right?" Like that sort of thing happens every day. See, not his problem.

The animation style is really cool - and I like the backgrounds. Very stylized.
I just hope they don't do that fast-anime-lines-running-behind-them-as-they-prepare-for-battle every episode like right before they beat up the Purple Dragons.
It's okay, but not every episode...
But I like it.
