View Full Version : DNA Is Thicker Than Water (new ep)

Just checked Yahoo and this episode is airing Saturday morning at 9:30 AND 10am......no idea why it's being shown twice...but hey... for those who haven't seen it it's a new ep (and one of my fave FF eps).

Yeah good episode, I don't know about you guys but I think the Dark TMNT are funny.

Fast Forward was steadily getting better and better-- and the Dark Turtles, though on the surface were rather cliché, I really did rather like them-- for one thing, it gave the voice actors something rather "evil" to do, and secondly, it LENDS itself greatly to so much story plotline!!!
I saw this ep. on YouTube, and honestly, when the Dark-Leo at the END splits the meat up equally, and the Dark-Mike mentions this, I absolutely LOVED the "It's called 'Sharing'-- you should try it sometime!"-- yet he was openly challenging Darius Dunn-- THAT was the TMNT that I came to LOVE due to the 2K3 series!!!!

This eps probably the best one of the FF series.
Oh... That's this weekend? I checked my local listings a couple days ago, and it said "The Fall of Darius Dunn" and some other rerun. Anyway, I never knew this ep was so widely favored. It's my favorite too! ^_^ It's the closest they got to a perfect ep. I love character growth. :D It'll be a year before we find out if it stuck though (assuming we ever see the Dark Turtles again, that is).

It's the closest they got to a perfect ep.
You missed alot of episodes then. Milk Run? Timing Is Everything? Fall Of Darius Dun?
Then again I'm one of the 8 people who are over the age of 12 that likes FF.

This is one of my favorite FF episodes as well. And not just because it is Leonardo-centric. Sure sure, it deals with the usual Leonardo episode themes- honor, courage, doing the right thing, etc. But it is a fresh new angle. I like how Leo says he did not like a certain story after all. I like how Dark Leo reacted. One of the best for sure. One of the reasons why I like FF- even though I do not like it as much as the first 2k3 seasons.

This is why I wanted the Dark Turtles to somehow go back in time next season with the TMNT.
I think they should further be explored in the past rather than ignoring them entirely.

Weird I just saw that episode last week. So it's just being aired in the US now?
I'm in the Philippines, BTW, and I randomly watch FF, which is aired everyday... Timing Is Everything and Head of State are good episodes, which surprised me, considering fans voiced their dislike with this series.
Yeah, it just aired on TV here.
But, it's also been made available before (through Comcast's Cable Feature "On Demand"; as well as on DVD).

I haven't given up on trying to buy the FF V2 DVD.... I just decided to watch this episode since there is nothing else good on. And I really have to say... if the writing were this sharp, and had this amount of direction, FF wouldn't have been a wasted concept.
I've been looking forward to this episode since Anime Boston, since I heard about it from the mouth of leonardo Himself. Or rather his voice actor. I was in a discussion with him saying I really wasn't feeling FF, but It was Turtles, so I loved it anyway. Then he told about this episode and I thought... wow... now this is the direction they needed to take. And it took them until the end of the series to get it.

This episode was definitely good. I liked it because it dealt with Dark Leo's character depth and showed that he did change. I also like the fact that the dumb battle cry was not said, which I was bracing myself for. Overall, this ep gets a 5/5 from me.
Spitfire
10-10-2007, 07:46 PM
You guys really can't handle "It's Ninja Time"? There's way worse battle cries then that. "Let's Turtleize'em" was pretty bad. I did love "Turtle Power" though but they won't ever use that again, thanks Laird.

This was a good one, mainly because it was once again Leo centric (both Dark and Light.) It's interesting he could be so forgiving considering he was so mistrustful of Karai. Maybe the events with The Journal and Bishop's reform made him change his outlook?
It's a pity Fast Forward took so long to get good, but I'm glad it's nearly over. Cody's no replacement for Casey and April. It's Playmates fault in the first place for fast-tracking this season and constantly complaining the show isn't all jokes like the other Saturday Morning garbage. They're still pulling that same old trick with the new direction and they should just really get their hooks out of the creator's nostrils and let them make a watchable show.
In the end, the toyline failed, the ratings failed and yet Playmates won't change their faulty ideas (look at the new Alien Hunters line, which is doomed to rot on the shelves.) Fan complaints had nothing to do with FF's faiilure, it drove away casual viewers who thought the franchise sold out and became another generic 'comedy' toon. By the time the improvement came it was deemed a failure and had fallen under the radar and burned off like a cancelled network show.

And yet...since the movie FF's ratings have been mostly the highest on the block. Do you guys even look at the rating reports?
Aside from Dinosaur King which has turned out to be a surprise hit for 4kids, TMNT has been doing better than everything else on their block...with reruns even.
Some stuff stolen from Toonzone:
Ratings for September 22:
FOX (4Kids TV) 1.2/6 Avg. (8a-12n)
Winx Club 0.6/4
Yu-Gi-Oh GX 0.8/4
Chaotic 1.5/6
Mutant Ninja Turtles Fast Forward 1.6/6
Mutant Ninja Turtles Fast Forward 1.6/7
Dinosaur King 1.5/6
Viva Pinata 1.2/5
Sonic X 0.9/4
Ratings for September 29, 2007
Adrenaline Project 0.4
Yu-Gi-Oh GX 0.7
Chaotic 1.2
Mutant Ninja Turtles Fast Forward 1.3
Mutant Ninja Turtles Fast Forward 1.5
Dinosaur King 1.6
Viva Pinata 1.1
Sonic X 1.1
Why is TMNT: FF still one of the highest rated shows on 4kids block then? I don't think these are much lower than what Season 4 was getting last year.

because it's not as bad as everyone on here made it out to be, I swear to god that half the people lied about what they thought of things simply because they thought if they did that without even seeing the episodes yet that they with their complaints would be the saving grace of the series.
Yeah look how well all that nagging and complaining worked out..Fast Forward is now cancled, and look at the ideas being tossed around that are tuns worse than this stuff at least Fast forward still used things from 2k3.
Fast Forward was not the coolest or best thing ever but it most def. was not the worst thing ever or as bad as everyone makes it out to be and I really think they should have said screw it and did the next season while they pull their heads out of their @sses and figure out what they're going to do with the turtles.

Wow you two are both...you know what I'm not even going to insult you but what I will do it make you look like idiots.
For one the FF toys sold like crazy, the series had higher ratings then 2K3 when it was at the peak*By peak I mean best season, 4*, what you all liked. Deny it all you want kids loved this show. The only reason it's being canned is because people who work for Mirage, and I bet Laird himself read this message board and see you cry babies complaining about it.
Well enjoy Baby Turtles Diaper Hour and World Of TMNT Craft because that's what we're getting now because you all exaggerated how bad the faults of this show were and constantly flamed anyone who liked the series to the point where half the people who did like it were afraid to say anything.
Good going
Do as you wish, ass-hole. I didn't insult your precious Fast Forward, but you just don't seem to care. You think everyone's always picking on you, so the solution is to pick on them first, right? Grow up!

Honestly this place has become a rabid cesspool of constant whining and bitching. People seem to hate any idea that isn't 2K3 more and more.
Don't even touch the general discussion area, it should be removed. You can't even nicely say what you like in that section without getting ripped to pieces by the savages in there. Even the friends tear into each other there. That's mostly why I'm an ass here. I used to contain it within general but lately I've just been going off wherever I see fit.
Not the best choice, I should go back to listening to angry music when I'm upset instead. Which I'm doing right now, guess it really does pacify me. Honestly in real life I'm a very chill guy who never loses his cool. Here I can fly off the handle and it's just online so there's no hurt feelings. Well, the problem is that obviously there ARE hurt feelings, or people wouldn't be defensive. They're not just always reacting that way because they're overreacting. Maybe they're hurt. So let's try calming it down and not ADDING to it.
Few people are going to watch a show that almost everyone says is lame.
Well, I dunno about that. I rarely let anyone's opinion stop me from watching something. And, really... Um... I dunno. I've ever brought up TMNT to anyone, really... as not many people I know watch it. I do work with the kids, and they HATE FF. And the toys never ever sold here. They finally clearance them, and when they STILL didnt sell... I dunno what they did with them, haha. Threw them away? But that's old news.
Anyhow, let's discuss without being demeaning, shall we? Thanks.

Oh, give me a break. If the series was doing great and making all kinds of money, they wouldn't cancel it just because a few people on a message board complained about it. That makes no sense whatsoever from a business standpoint, not to mention that it's just plain paranoid and ridiculous.

Well, there were them, also... Hence why I mentioned people working the stores. People (older fans) here reacted well to the show. Heck, I had to get through adults to get to the 2K3 toys! There were alot more older fans of 2K3 than younger, to be sure. Well, here, at least. I cant really speak for anywhere else, haha. But when it turned to FF, both older and younger fans kinda bottomed out here. *shrugs* Just the way it goes, I guess.

And that's the only reason I brought it up again. However, since you posted this...

...you can consider the issue dropped. I hope that your improvement in behavior means that you will also try to avoid making generalizations against the entire forums, as that is not fair to the 99+% of the members who have nothing to do with it.

You're absolutely right on both points. I just took exception to the fact that he blamed what happened to Fast Forward entirely on these forums. I can't deny that there were some negative comments posted here, but people also need to take into consideration the many other sources of negativity toward FF, such as other message boards and comments from fans who don't even have internet access.

Being sarcastic and grouping are the biggest problems I have. My extremely low opinion on most of mankind contribute to that. I like to bag on media zombies and I tend to get pissed when people don't enjoy intelligent entertainment.
This pertains nothing to the subjects we just spoke on. So yeah I'll work on those.
And for the record my comments about the series ending and volume 4 were stabs at the fanbase as a whole not just the message board. I'm very well aware there's alot of fans who aren't on this message board. If there were only 3,203 turtles fans out there in the world I'd be really worried.

Hey, I love a good debate, but arguing isn't nice. However, Spitfire is explaining his actions and trying to improve. I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt.
Besides, it's merely opinion anyway. I don't like Fast Forward, but I wasn't saying that it was gonna suck before I saw it. I gave it a chance, and I didn't like it at all. I admit that there could be worse things, but that battle cry annoys me. I'm sorry, but I just hate it. "Let's Turtlelize 'em!" wasn't that bad because it wasn't said all the time. If "It's Ninja Time!" had been used sparingly, I wouldn't have minded it. However, it was said so much that it got on my nerves.
Here's a better battle-cry: "Give 'em hell! Give 'em shell! Give 'em a story they won't live to tell!" That was Vincent's awesome idea (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=639758&songID=4782024)... But, he hasn't been around for months, so let's steal it. ^_^

What the hell??? The turtles battle cry was 'Turtle Power!' They must have used 'let's turtleize em' like... once or twice during the entire series run.
It's Ninja Time is just stupid. They ARE Ninjas. They don't just.. stop becoming ninjas and then 'transform into ninjas' when the time comes. Plus, after 4 seasons of TMNT kickin ass without a stupid battle cry, choosing fast Forward as the time to say it's ninja time is a little too late.

Yelling "Ninja Time" destroys the whole "Strike hard and fade away" aspect of being a ninja. You can't take your enemies by surprise and stealthy like if you yell "Ninja Time" before you jump out of the shadows.

The Ninja time thing is not such a big deal to me...what bothers me is the amount of sway Playmates has over the direction of the show. They have an unhealthy obsession with 'themed' waves, even though they've failed miserably in the past (Paleo Patrol) is one such instance.
The original plan of the 2K3 line was great, sprinkle in obscure characters with Turtle Variants based on the show. They abandoned this 2 years into the line and worse they started making up their own stupid theme lines, right when the show was giving them plenty of variant choices (The Fantastic Four parody of the Turtles or the future Turtles from Same as it Never Was.)
The point being that once Playmates is tired of whatever the next incarnation of the TMNT comes next they'll demand they reformat the show yet again once they're bored with the new gimmick. Again, complainers have no pull over decisions to reformat...it's Playmates that has all the pull.

Their in the future, they don't need to be ninjas anymore. The thing is they never yell it while surprise attacking someone, they yell it right before their jumping into kicking the crap out of someone.
They can walk the streets freely, they can do whatever they want, they went from living in dirty conditions to living in the best conditions they possibly could.
I honestly wonder how going back is going to affect them. For one they can't take their weapons, I hope they don't, they just to powerful. And their going to go back to living in the sewers/abandoned buildings.

well they have been in sewers for a much longer time. I think they may resent the fact in the past they can't live as openly as in the future but I don't think it will take much adjusting. You are talking about the turtles that have been in space, the prehistoric and all over time and alter dimensions. I don't think they are phased anymore ;)
What the hell??? The turtles battle cry was 'Turtle Power!' They must have used 'let's turtleize em' like... once or twice during the entire series run.
Actually, it was more like three or four times. :D
Yelling "Ninja Time" destroys the whole "Strike hard and fade away" aspect of being a ninja. You can't take your enemies by surprise and stealthy like if you yell "Ninja Time" before you jump out of the shadows.
Unless they're deaf. :goof:
I honestly wonder how going back is going to affect them. For one they can't take their weapons, I hope they don't, they just to powerful. And their going to go back to living in the sewers/abandoned buildings.well they have been in sewers for a much longer time. Wow... That's one joke that could easily spawn an entire fanfic. Raph, being upset that he has to go back to a life of hiding, exclaims, "I loved the future! :tcry:"

Unless they're deaf.
Oooh good call. But nah, the censors would be all over that because we can't attack "handicapped" people. Jeez, leave it to them to take all the fun out of beating up disabled people. Poo *kicks a stone*

Noo, I don't want to hear Raph complain anymore. He's the tough turtle. No whining.

Their in the future, they don't need to be ninjas anymore.
Then I wonder why they even keep the name on the title... ;)
They can walk the streets freely, they can do whatever they want, they went from living in dirty conditions to living in the best conditions they possibly could.
Which took everything away from them, I think. That, or it was handled horribly.

If they keep those awful future crap things, I will definitely quit watching for good. I think the going back to the sewers could be an interesting storyline, and if handled well, could be quite poignant.
I don't hold out much hope for that, though.
Best ep of Fast Forward, IMO.

Definitely one of the best episodes indeed. And not just because it is a Leo-centered episode. It has some great themes and morals. And it is engaging- it does not come off as preachy.

I tohught it was a great ep. I loved it!
I also thought the episode was great! Kinda unrelated question, can anyone tell me what comic the dark turtles were in, and even better where to find pics of the toys of them. But not the fast forward toys, the "original" ones where they were the same colored skins as their counter parts, anyone know what I'm talking about? Greatly appreciated.

Wow thanks Neutrino, you got to that extremely quick! Not to make you feel unappreciated, but I was just coming back to this topic to edit, because I finally found pics of the toys, but the ones you did post are actually in high resolution. So thank you for that. I'd give you props and rep if I could, but greatly appreciated!
Anyone know the comic they appeared in or have any pics of that by any chance? And have names ever came up? I assumed not, besides Dark ______. Just curious and thanks again Neutrino.
Comics they appeared in? Meaning the UK magazine comics?? Otherwise, I'm confused...
Hmm, I thought they appeared in some comics first Mirage? I'm not sure, before they appeared in Fast Forward. Anyone know? If not, then not only do I look stupid but I'm definitely feelin it.

Didn't Ryan Brown do a similar one that looked like a blue Dark Raphael fighting Leonardo in the Mirage Portfolio gallery?

Well I have been away for a while, and honestly surprise at the positive responds of this episode. It was one of my calmer story, more about characters than sword playing. I didn't think you guys were going to like it so much therefore I'm Glad It was certainly easier to draw than my "Timing is Everything" and " Fall Of Darius Dunn"!!!!!
Don't worry that FF is over, there will be more coming up in the near future, so stay tune.
Excuse my grammar

Well, Some of you may enjoy seen some comparisons from Storyboard to TV show of the "TMNT Show". Here is my Blog. In there are some storyboards panels before Fast Forward ended.
Toward the End there are some sisde to side comparison of "Bad Day" Boards as well.
Enjoy,

wo wo wo wo wo wo!!! THE DEVIL & DR. STOCKMAN!!:o
Is this a new episode? Or one that didn't get made???
From the storyboards alone that looks amazing!
Oh it's from Fast Forward I guess we won't be seeing it then?
So Fast Forward is totally done then yes?
It's quite crazy that Triceraton looking Shredder.
Wow that design for Sh'okanabo is so crazy and differnt from what we got in the show!
I seriously can't wait to see more from you man, you do great work!

Absolutely love this. IMO it looks better than the design they went with

I agree, although the design ultimately doesn't go with the character. This guy looks more like an ancient enlightened evil-doer, as opposed to the giant, boorish, single-minded oaf we've come to know and despise. :)
